Or sell them for the same price, but in smaller stacks.
I hope this is fixed, its pretty stupid that you cant just buy 1 out of the x that is there.... You could in 1.0 -.- was surprised i'd miss that AH window...
You simply cannot make selling based on demand when the demand is 1 because that'd mean I could only put up 20 of x item, putting up 20 ores when I have 400 is just pain staking, then someone undercuts me and i have to reprice them all and the AH window looks like a giant list of the same name 20 times. Just an absolute crappy implementation.
There are going to be some items that folks are going to need in bulk, so let them buy it in large stacks if they so wish! Then there is people whom just need a few in quantity, so small sale is just fine as well. There's a market for both!
Most businesses do both, you can buy a large tub of sour cream for your whole family or a party, or get a smaller one just for yourself. So why not allow the players same option?
I would want the option to buy what I need, and will pay a reasonable price for a smaller quanity that doesn't have me paying a ton of gil. Expecially if I have a small project.
Whether I sell in bulk or small quantity should be my choice, however the current process makes it extremely difficult to do mass sales. If im selling apples, I am hopeful that I could sell 1 stack of 99 in bullk and another stack of 99 as individuals, and let the market decide. :)
Could be wrong, but it makes sense to give players more options.
So compromise.

I'd like to draw you to a point "Whether I sell in bulk or small quantity should be my choice, however the current process makes it extremely difficult to do mass sales." If I wanted to sell 20 items individually that would take up 20 sections of a market ward and half of my retainers available sales room. Thus it encourages me to sell in "bulk" to free up room for other sales.
Qty. Item Description Unit price seller How many would you like total price remaining quanity
20 herp derp 10g Me 5 50g 15
Or... total price
1 herp derp 10g me 5
1 herp derp 10g me 5
1 herp derp 10g me 5
(repeat till you have 20)
Edit: The hurried "chart" isn't lining up but you should get the idea! Apologies
Note that in my crappy MS Paint auction house, putting 150 of a single item up to sell individually takes up a single slot, rather than one for each individual item. I assume when someone buys from the first two sets (the "individual" sales), the game will prompt them to choose a qty.
The current system is definitely flawed, but I guess my point is people calling for the opposite (only selling in quantities of 1) isn't helping either.
Ahh see your first section is what we all want to see my friend! That's what they mean by selling items "individually". (the title of the thread is complaining about being unable to buy from stacks) Though keep in mind the small business crafters might only want to sell 1-2 meat kabob ect haha (I have extra food that I made while leveling and put it on clearance in this manner.)
The compromise that most players are after is the ability to choose whether to set a number to be sold as a "stack" or offer the stack to be divided up individually. (IE like your first idea). At the end of the day, we just want the option to buy or sell the way we want! :)
Friends?
Adding in another request for the option to choose how many items to buy. There have been multiple times that items I needed were only available in huge expensive stacks when I could only use (and afford) one or two.
Agreed with a great many posters here. While the market system itself is an upgrade from 1.0, the item listing is severely downgraded by not having the option to allow items from a stack to be bought individually. In an MMO that has been designed around having 'options' for everything, forcing players to participate in a market analysis to sell the appropriate size stacks of items is ridiculous. Just add the option to buy individually from a stack. That way people can buy singles, or 5, or 10.. or 100.
