Or just right click it off if you're the tank.
Well whenever it happens I just start sprint-hugging the tank just in case he forgets to cancel it in 20 seconds of time. That way he can range-pull into AOE like normal with only the healer getting the first hit of the other thrash. I can understand how other healers could lack that foresight but there is always something either the healer or the tank can do in that situation. Regen right before pull remains a giant waste however, you can still hug the tank if you forget about it but it's a lot less excusable. My AST friend kept doing it to me when I was tanking and most of the time it's just a bad habit they picked up that they need to unlearn.
Not easy to do if you play on console or with a controller.
In other news, A9S farming for some accessories. BLM doesn't know how to dodge Scrapline (each time) and dies. Also doesn't know to not stand in the fire (each time), and eventually the heals stop raising him. No, he wasn't a bonus.
WHM spamming Holy too much on the adds. So much so that I have to play Ballad for them. That was the only thing they did, by the way. Didn't do much healing outside of Asylum bubble. Barely keep a HoT on the MT. Holy is fine and dandy and all, but why do so many WHM insist on spamming it until OOM, and then cry to the BRD when they're out of MP?
I stayed number 2 after the DRG in terms of DPS. The NIN didn't even die and would barely pull 1400 DPS. And of course they rolled on the freaking Aiming Necklace I was after, AND WON. >:( So I had to buy it when I would have rather saved my books for my other jobs... sigh. Today has just been a rough day, and I was probably super salty in there compared to my usual patient demeanor... but today was just not a good day, and I wanted to get some farming done, and people were just being terrible and I couldn't today....
To the WAR who I was with: I'm sorry I didn't notice your pacification. Even without macros (which I'm so used to running with my two WAR friends who have macros for it), I usually am on top of Paeon-ing pacified WARs. I was just...today was an off-day. Not a very good day, and I was just looking to lose myself in doing something so I didn't have to think about today. So I was zoning out more than I should have been, and for that, I apologize. I also apologize if I came off as bitchy with my macro comment. Wasn't my intention.
To be fair, it's not good practice to continuously cast HoTs on a tank or the party pre-pull because it's just unnecessary enmity gain on you. And this is Duty Finder we're talking about, so you can't have high expectations for every tank or party member you come across. Some may be able to snag aggro right back before the mobs boop you, but others may not be so swift in doing so. It's just best to not precast regens at all, in my opinion. I get annoyed when healers do it on me because it's just unnecessary; I won't die in the 5 seconds it takes for me to secure my aggro on mobs, so they can just wait that 5 seconds, Regen, and then enter Clerics and start DPSing away. I can always snag hate back when I'm on my DRK, but I shouldn't have to chase mobs down because healers decide to precast their regens or medica IIs on everyone.
Don't you just love that? Same thing happened to me the other night. Good group overall, but the healer kept ignoring me. It's like... "I need some healing[/i]. ;-;"
Speaking of which! Wound up healing with you yesterday in A12N. Pls be my co-healer again sometime <3
I know right?! I died three times in the group I was referring to in my post. Each time because of lack of heals. We had an AST and a WHM, and neither could bother to give me at least a HoT. Or a shield even!!! ;-; I was like "...do they think DRKs can self-heal like WARs can because we totally cannot ;_;"
OMG. I THOUGHT YOUR NAME LOOKED FAMILIAR. I was thinking "Where have I seen this name before...it's so freaking familiar...where?!" It was bugging me all night. XDQuote:

It was a pleasure healing with you!! :D Hopefully we'll bump into one another again! <3
But I already really good at that, I don't have any problem tracking my own buffs/HP/MP/TP, what the boss/mobs is doing, where are the other players and their special needs (if melee like monks) and predicting routes to the best use of my AoE enmity skills during pulls.
Dun Scaith. Healers had to use LB3 on Diabolos Hollow twice. Yes, that's right I said twice. I'm still not even sure what the hell was going on in there that that ended up happening.
Well after my Void Ark Series runs last Friday I can only agree with some here...
I have run the Void Ark Series raids for at least 6 pieces of Shire Gear and a couple extra kicks. (Because its actually a cool and very scenic raid, and the story is good)
I was doing the last upgrade on my Shire and walked headlong into things I'd never seen before. Prior to this I'd seen a whopping total of two wipes, and those just turned out to be flukes, because the next time at the boss we just destroyed it.
First crew, I have no idea why this one group in the alliance kept dying, and it was a total wipe for that party almost over and over. I swear I spent more time raising them than DPSing. They had to have been seriously under geared. And this Alliance should have been a DPS dream team too. We had 3 BLMs and 4 SMNs. Yet at times I was on my 4th Deathflare and had only seen a whopping two other ones go off. Should have been round the clock Deathflares. And I barely saw any Fire IVs go off from the BLMs.
I was like what?
This group was on the last square of Deathgaze, and I had never seen that before... ever. It's one of those things where you HEAR about it happening, but you never actually see it. So its like a myth... but here I was going... wow... never seen that before. This crew barely made it past Proto Ultima the DPS was that low. And wiped 3 times at Scathak, before vote abandoning... again something I had never seen before Friday (an actual honest vote abandon). They were dying to the Hands, the easiest mechanic to avoid. The final wipe the Tank didn't pick up Cothak or whatever his name is, and he got too close to the queen. This one group in the alliance had constant total wipes, and I spent so much time Raising people it was almost impossible to keep any Damage on Target at times. I don't mind emergency Raising, its a part of the job as SMN.... Despite all that, no one could deny... this crew had no DPS. I was just going... wow.. never seen that before.
So I was just thinking.... fluke... bad crew, it happens sometimes.
Re-queued, and the next one I was in, never even made it off the Airship. In all fairness this one was probably just unlucky. Deathgaze was doing all kinds of really screwy stuff I had never seen him do before.... one of which was putting the Icebergs at the complete opposite end of the ship the Raid was on.... making it impossible for anyone to get to them in time to not be blown off... so I couldn't fault the group for that. But then the second time no one picked up the adds and half the alliance got heavied... and right at that opportune moment Deathgaze did his Void Doom. Half the alliance got sucked in and died. That was the second vote abandon... I was just going... wow.. never seen that before. While its true this crew may have just been a little too loose as they were joking around a bit much before we started, at least this one I could chalk up to some seriously bad luck.
Third time... Actually made it to Diablos Hollow, DPS still a little low but doable. Still wiped twice, and had to use Healer LB. Another one where I spent most of my time Raising, and not DPSing. Still we did at least clear... despite all that disaster.
I was just sitting back after all that going... wow... just wow... I've never seen the stuff I did today before. Prior to that I'd seen a whopping 2 total wipes, and they were flukes because we just destroyed everything after that. Sure people die sometimes, and sometimes a lot of people die, it happens... but I have never seen that many actual failures to clear before. I'm hoping this is not becoming the standard in there...
Right now I'm working on clearing Alex, but I don't tend to enjoy JUST boss mob fights I like a little more variety like the Dungeons, and the story isn't as good as Void Ark, and Void Ark is more scenic. While Alex does have a certain coolness factor to it, its not quite as cool as Void Ark. Alex surprisingly seems easier despite everything. I've burned through Gordias and Midas without any real problems. First time clears. Just have to make the final stretch but the queue times for this one are a lot longer. Its the last piece of content for me that I haven't yet done. So its the final stretch per se.
Three recent incidents:
1. We wiped to first boss of Dun Scaith because there were no safe spots on the airship, the DPS was that bad and dying that often. Didn't even know the fight could get to that point.
2. We wiped to the first boss of World of Darkness because the group failed to kill all the hourglasses in time. I've also never seen that ever...
3. Had a tank in expert roulette for the Wall pull mobs at the beginning in Deliverance and then failed to hold hate. We barely lived, he repeated this, and then we all wiped. He blamed it on his controller, then threw on Defiance. On our way to the last boss, I notice he's not in any stance right now, so I let him know and he never puts on a stance or says anything. Halfway through the boss, I see those enmity bars creeping up, and I know it's about to get bad. I remind him again he's not in any stance at all and he just ignores me again. Well, both of the DPS die at this point, and *then* he puts on defiance. I didn't say anything, but it's like, dude, don't bother now, us dying reset our enmity bars and now you're just lowering your damage for no reason. The kicker on all of this is he had grade 5 parry materia melds.
I don't get angry in DF, but at least don't ignore party chat like that.
If only! The one thing DRK can't do. ;-;
RIGHT?! I saw your name was like "Wait!" But then wasn't sure and had to double check! Have discord, perchance? Love to bump into you again or cross PF. :DQuote:

I'm like always online, be it discord or FFXIV, so I'm sure we will definitely bump into one another again!!
Yup. I'm aware. But I'm still of the mind that precasting HoTs is just unnecessary and bad practice. Why give yourself unneeded enmity when the tank or party isn't even taking any damage? I won't die in the 5 seconds it takes for me to secure aggro on mobs, so I don't understand why healers just insist on casting Regen on me before I even pull anything, or Medica II before a boss. And so many healers (WHM in particular) don't understand how to manage their own aggro (Shroud is your friend, WHM)...the times I've seen over-eager healers get killed because they keep spamming unnecessary heals and HoTs is ridiculous.
If I'm healing with a tank that is chain pulling, and if they need a heal that badly, Swiftcast+Cure / Benefic or a quick Tetra or Essential Dignity. I don't trust DF tanks enough to take aggro back from me if I get hate from HoT ticks, and I'm not a huge fan of having my face punched in either.
For the poster that said something about casting right as mobs die, my personal rule of thumb is if my HoT won't tick for 75% duration or more before the last mob dies, I don't use them. If the tank needs healing that badly before the last mob dies, I just drop cleric and give them a basic Cure / Benefic.
Have the 3 trash mobs in the Aery, right before the wyvern rush near the end on me. I'm a max DRK, big deal right? Shadowskin is on, and Shadow Wall is still down for a bit from the last boss. My health has dropped to about %50. Eh no biggie. Health hits %25 and I'm still just trying to keep these adds off my DPS. Meanwhile, the healer is spamming Gravity trying to out-DPS my Ninja and Dragoon the whole time. Health drops to 179 HP. I go down, and the mobs scatter. He swift cast raises me, but it's too late, he's down, and my DPS are right behind him then I follow suite, so I'm salty as all seven hells right now and the healer stops on a set of stairs between where we died and the first boss. I'm expecting him to say "My bad dude, I didn't see your health." Nope. "Quit being lazy, use your cds" You done messed up now. Vote kick starts, and I reply "Heal me next time F*ckwit." I saw him pause, he was typing out a reply, but before he could send it, the vote passed.
Bismarck story mode. We get in and people immediately ask "How does this fight work?" Okay... why waste all of our time inside instead of just yours by looking it up first? Seriously. This always pisses me off, so I knew this wouldn't go well.
The DPS is so bad that I'm beating most of them in Shield Oath. We can't kill the adds fast enough to actually beat the fight in time, and a few of us recognize that and say so early on. Eventually, we wipe, and the salt starts flowing from the worst players in the instance about the elitists in the group being mean. Well, the worst actually leave the trial, and get replaced quickly. The replacements top the charts, and we one-shot it.
I'm sorry if I came off as a jerk, but DPS checks are real guys. You have to learn to play eventually. :/
But not noticing whenever the healer is casting spells before you pull? Whether that be stoneskin, adloquium, or regen, it is very good practice to be noticing the healer cast at the very least so that you can delay the pull by half a second if necessary. And if it happens to be regen then one is already in the position to see it and do something about it. Whether that be clicking it off or adjusting the position of your flash, overpower, etc to account for the position of the mobs as they run to healer instead of you is up to you.
At some point you have to realize that doing something stupid and expecting someone to be smart enough to fix it is backwards. .. it's annoying, and healers shouldn't do it... end of story. If it happens sometimes sure it easily fixable but to insist that doing it is ok and to suggest it's on the tank to have awareness. .. if you are going to defend poor play by expecting the tank to be smart, why can't you expect the same of a healer. Don't do it... it's annoying.
Doing Sohr Khai and Nidhogg with someone from my fc... first we had an healer with lv 58 gear (weapon!) and barely managed to beat the boss at the end, then we qued up for nidhogg... first run, we had him...

That this is even possible...
PF group to work on the anima trials. Leviathan has my brother (the sole tank) wind up carrying us because the rest of us missed the generator. Ravana has one of the healers hanging out sniffing said brother's butt (and getting himself cleaved all to hell), but we win. Then we get to Bismarck. We're suddenly 1 tank (as we have been), 1 healer (the butt-sniffing healer), 1 drg, and 5 (FIVE!) brd.
And then the healer spends his time screaming at us to separate the wind/water snakes. Which can't be done because the drg is doing his best to tank one of them, but is losing aggro all over the place to the brd, and people die, and the healer screams some more, and then we wipe.
After the second wipe, the healer is screaming some more. Separate, separate separate. No explanation of how, since we have no other Provoke or Taunt.
The group was disbanded after that. So my brother and I just go DF, and get paired up with the DRG, the SCH turned BRD, and the party leader from before.
Easy peasy.
Why should a tank have to be the one paying extra attention just so a lazy healer doesn't have to care about paying attention? Sure, spamming HoTs is fun. I like doing it all the time as a healer. But if the pull is about to die, I don't need to cast a HoT, since healers happen to have heal spells other than regens.
Now, do I happen to have left HoTs up on a tank at the end of a pull? Of course I have, countless times. It's a bad habit of mine. It is nothing but sheer laziness on my part. That's what it is and that's what I'm going to call it, instead of blaming the tank.
I agree with you. I shouldn't have to hit the macro if the healer is aware, but it's there because so many aren't. We have people who don't AoE a pack of 12 mobs in expert roulettes, so my expectations are set at rock bottom and sometimes I still get disappointed. What can you do?Quote:

Like I tanked the entire first boss as a Bard. Thank the lord the boss spends 75% of the time casting something because if he auto attacked me more often, the healers wouldn't be able to keep me up and I wouldn't have survived the fight (though I stupidly walked into a Void Death IV at the very end). The remaining fights usually started with all of the DPS playing aggro hot potato even with quelling strikes usage. Our DPS also ended up being really low as a result of all this, my party especially had to end up improvising using our LB to clear add phases at the queen since we had no melee in our party, and it was probably the only reason why we got past her.
Such a butt-clenching run. I'm not particularly annoyed though, the run did really test my skill as a Bard to the maximum, on both the DPS and support front.
Berserk + Equilibrium is just... silly OP, xD. When the tank can heal up to like 20k... :D
Yay! Added you. ^^Quote:

And this is where all content should have some sort of restriction. All the devs need to do is put "Level 60 Disciple of War/Magic gear required" and bam, problem solved.

Now onto a fun little troll fail I forgot to post a couple weeks back. So! I queue into Dun Scaith with the raid already in progress and am immediately greeted with "welcome to our horrible trap." Apparently, Alliance C had a group of people purposely trolling the entire fight. They either flat out ignored mechanics or intentionally tried wiping everyone. Fun times! By some small miracle we got through Scathach after a single wipe. Unfortunately, troll alliance decided that was enough. Their tank insta-pulled and proceeded to type in chat how everyone was elitist, she's never done this before and etc. (My group said she's been going back and forth on whether she's "new"). Anywho, we predictably wipe a few times thanks to their antics.
Fed up, everyone else opts to give it one more go. Luckily, we had a Ninja in our group. So I tell the tank to keep Defiance on the whole fight and have the Ninja shadewalker him on cooldown. The troll Paladin couldn't take aggro, and believe me, she was trying. Meanwhile, the other healer and I heal spam healed our Warrior through everything as best we could and the other alliance sacrificed a good portion of players to mitigate the tank meteor trolly tank wouldn't stand in. Our Warrior Holmgang's Diabolos' first stack mechanic, I Swiftcast + Raise + Bene him following the next when and because troll tank kept killing herself, our Warrior got hate back easily. She makes one desperate attempt and provokes a cleave right into both me and the other healer... only for Dialobos to die seconds later.
WELL! There was trolling to be had in the chat after all that... except it was us laughing and mocking them for failing despite all the crap they pulled.
Lol true that. My faith in DF is so low I'm not even surprised anymore.
Had a fun Keeper of the Lake earlier. Decided to actually run 50 roulette on my WAR. Interesting since I've only ever really done trials on it, but I was glad I managed to keep hate on everything. :3 Sorry to the monk if I was spinning the mobs too much. XD it wasn't intentional. Just so many AOEs. ;-;
Who said anything about defending poor healer behaviour? I was simply responding to the sentiment that there was nothing the tank could do about it if it happened, and then to the sentiment that it was too much to ask that a tank be aware of it if it did. It's not like its even hard to manage a pull when there's a regen tick on you if you're aware of it ahead of time. Annoying? Yes. But that's the extent of it. It takes one gcd to fix it. If a pull goes so wrong due to a pre-existing regen tick that serious issues occur then that's not the fault of the regen tick but bad tanking.
Queued up for A10S after watching many guides and reading some text ones feeling confident that I can accomplish it
I was main tanking but as soon as I pulled everything went south for me even after reading guides I was not prepared and I feel bad for wasting 7 other people's time so after the 2nd wipe I said Please excuse me, I'm sorry I wasted your time in my poor Japanese.
I should have just made a practice party to make sure I had all the mechanics down, probably over confidence from beating the training dummy boss in A9s...
Your last 3 posts have literally been putting it all on the tank, thus, in essence, absolving healers of all responsibility. Which i consider defending because in none of your posts have you mentioned blaming the healer. And since you have all three healers at 60 it makes it even more likely that you are putting it on the tank, defending the healer.
I ended up partying with C'rysta Zeith for a few instances, someone who recognized me from the forums and happened to be in the same server. It was quite fun, though I don't think it was a coincidence that we ended up in runs where there were always new people around for us to give advice to.
I was especially impressed by that new Dragoon in Weeping City who used Elusive Jump to get to a web during Arachne Eve's quicksand mechanic, when it looked like he'd die due to time running out.
Level 50 roulette put in me in Tam Tara Hard. Beginning of the run the healer says he's not a very good healer, but is looking to improve. Unwittingly I already gave him that opportunity. I derped, and it wasn't until partway through the final boss that I forgot to put up Grit. However, that healer did an excellent job keeping everyone alive. He got my comm
To the Roe healer who looks like Ganondorf, and has a name to match, not even Mipha herself could heal better.

Yeah, it feels great when a move like that actually succeeds. A long time ago (during 2.x where CT was still relevant), i did something similar with my bard. I always thought that Repelling Shot was meant to dodge ground AoE’s while attacking your target. So, i once used it once on King Behemoth’s Meteor attack. The comets had dropped and King Behemoth initiated his attack by standing up while growling. I turned my back towards a comet and used my Repelling Shot. It made me jump backwards and as i landed, the meteor came down and i survived. I had a few friends with me and we were laughing ourselves silly when we saw that it actually worked! (^_^ )
Ofcourse, you get cocky after something like that, so i used Repelling Shot to dodge the Weight of Land ability from Titan HM, only to miscalculate the distance and resulting in me going off the edge. (^_^; )
Was doing Dun Scaith yesterday and the B team did everything to make the run so much harder. They would go down like flies, and not follow any mechanics. They would bring the big balls in the party, move at the wrong times, etc. It was annoying and we kept wondering how they could seriously fail at every single mechanic and there was no bonus notice at the start of the run...
I don't think there's a single bard out there that doesn't have at least one "I derped with Repelling Shot" story. I had the bright idea of using it to dodge Double Charge (green->red) in AS10. Dodged the mechanic perfectly, totally forgot about the electric wall behind me >.>
Leveling roulette as PLD Dusk Vigil.
What could possibly go wrong? Well nothing actually except we had a MNK with MULTIPLE 60'S, SHIRE GEAR, 240 ANIMA BUT WITH FENDING ACCESSORIES. Fine I said to myself, at least you can put out some dps. Except he didn't, he just moved around randomly. Sometimes he ran into a nearby wall and sometimes he thought it was a good time to get a few random hits in. After that he ran into another random direction and gets hit by an aoe that even toddlers can dodge. I did 3 times his dps WHILE PLAYING AS PLD. Before you guys say "that's a bot dude", no this guy wasn't a bot. He said sorry when I called him out on it and halfway into the dungeon he said he had to go. I said no way am I going to kick you, you're gonna leave on your own. Then he waited till combat was over and left. And before you guys say that guy was simply trying to get kicked from the very beginning, he had that fending gear on the whole time so no we are definitely dealing with an idiot.
1. Be a PLD.
2. Queue for Leveling Roulette.
3. Land in the Aery.
4. Notice the AST has drawn all of 2 cards in the time between the start and the first boss. And is spamming nothing but Benefic II in Nocturnal.
5. Cry.
6. Move on.
7. Pull 5 mobs.
8. Blow through all the cooldowns you have available.
9. Wonder why it's taking so long for everything to die.
10. Notice the NIN appears to be using no ninjutsu apart from Huton.
11. Notice the BLM is single-target spamming Fire instead of Fire II.
12. ...
13. Do not profit.
Get an in progress queue for expert.
I was happy because not only instant but some of it done, then I find out new bonus on top of it, it was like getting a jackpot. However there was one problem, we needed wait for a tank. I was trying to ask someone when someone showed up. So we start off okay, the normal Defiance to Deliverence on boss. But after a while he would take too much damage, still using Deliverence without CDs, making it too hard to heal and I needed to Dissipation to cover for it. Then the new DPS died and still kept on Deliverence despite needing to heal a lot and I could not even raise the brd right away because of the perma Deliverence.
I asked him to Defiance when cds are down and that he was becoming too hard to heal at times but refused to listen, then at the final boss when asking to cast lots on loot, he acted like he did not know what it is and went to rush pull without me being ready. So after trying to vote kick over the harassment over healing and not tanking, they turned and kick me instead at the final boss. He blames it on me for no emberace when it was his fault to begin with that i had to? I have a Dissipation macro on top of things and yes I know to resummon when it wears off.
Something needs changing where more severe punishments are given out for kick abuse at final boss, and I shouldn't have to lose all that progress (should consider refinements in cases like this)
