I don't think having puffy hair invalidates a hat friendly version. There are many modern aesthetics or old race styles that are big, and yet they were made with some layers that are omitted for a hat or helmet.

The ears are the worst offender in that case. I have been trying to compare hat models to a Viera's head and indeed, there are some items that the strucutre would clip through the ears vertically, in a way that even if holes would be designed it wouldn't work. But again, in a best case scenario, these helms not working would actually be the exception, not the rule.

I would roughly guess that if hair would pose no issue anymore, we would be able to use 2/3 of the hats available. Hrothgar would be honestly able to use them all since their lion ears behave just like a miqo'te's.

In the case of every hair working for it... The upper cone would cross through the ears vertically, would look really bad. However, they can just hide the ears there. I can't see how the Viera ears, sitting on the crown of the head, wouldn't be able to fit inside this hat, or the numerous other pointy hats.

You're on the money with them not being equal to the other races & I see that as a bonus-
The other races look like they need to be updated & their hairstyles are outdated, most look the same & are boring.
I don't want Viera or Hrothgar to be like that.
I'm fine with Viera not being able to wear most hats- but their hairstyles should involve headpieces like the diadem you see them with in FFXII & some art of tactics. I don't want them to make Viera like other races because I know it won't bode well visually & the other races hairstyles are flat/ boring & I don't like them- if more hairstyles are added to Viera that the other races have (to be clear, I'm not saying they shouldn't get the mog station or reward hairs) even though it will all look like a half-done job just like the hairstyles they added due to demand.

The XIV team should start making more headgear that Hrothgar & Viera CAN wear rather than adding hats that those races won't be able to wear. I'm okay with not getting another top hat or witch hat, I'd much rather get a mage hood & hat fasteners/ tiara's & diadems.
Give me the fluffiest hair, the longest Viera hair, the weirdest mane.
Viera & Hrothgar should have their own distinctive styles & the XIV team should finish what they started in a timely manner- they'll get more support & positive feedback that way.

Random thought: If I had a dollar for everytime I've heard or read that the design team should just look at what modders do & pay them to implement those hairstyles in FFXIV, I'd have alot of money.

I'm just hoping they get more hairstyles (and maybe more ear styles) at some point.

I enjoy male viera but the hair styles were so limiting, and my head always felt too narrow or too wide. Couldn't find a middle ground. I've gone back to miqo'te for the meanwhile, i'm sure i'll go back, but i'm hoping i see more of the hairstyles they've added over the years added as options. They did a couple of them, and to be honest, one of the choices was one that looks almost exactly like one of their race specific hairstyles, so that was disappointing to see. The hairstyle that Emmanellain uses.

The sad part is that i can't just go back to liking Miqo'te as much. Viera looked better in cutscenes, had a better default idle animation, a not-goofy run animation, and the hairstyle i was using looked more like something an actual person would have instead of this spikey thing i've got going (not that i dislike it, it gives my head a nice shape, it's just a little too spikey). What i like about miqo'te right now is better head shape (because hair) and gear looks a little better on me, was hard making glams to fit my taste on Viera, i prefer to give myself a slightly bulkier/muscular looking frame with glams, as opposed to looking more lithe. The way gear fits miqo'te lends itself better to this.

The hair problem was partially to blame for the struggles with making a good glamour, combined with the ears. The only hair i really liked made me feel too narrow, same with the ears. Kind of wish there was a pair that sat a little further apart rather than being so high up on the head, also even at shortest length, they are pretty long.

You read that a lot because if it's done by someone, it means it can be done, am I wrong? Now... the question would be whether XIV would see resources poured into it because it is a time consuming job.

People are so adamant about hats and hair because both Viera and Hrothgar, at their reveals, were told to be extensive customization options to make up for not wearing any headgear - at all - but turned out they landed somewhere in an unsatisfactory in between: have more limited options than an old race (Hroth even needs Fantasia to change hair...) and can use just a small portion of the head items in the game.

Reading this has actually made me realize something, now I'm worried... I'm starting to question if SE only wants to give us Modern Aesthetics and have done with it. Like you said, originally we wasn't supposed to have any headgear at all but since we were given glasses, circlets, certain hoods etc it makes me wonder if SE sees that as "finished" and therefore their original plan is scrapped? I sincerely hope not.

The ONLY way I would deem this situation fair is if SE went back and fixed every single hat to our characters so we're at least the same level as the other races.... If not, then simple as they should just give us more race-exclusive hair - I don't see a reason why Viera/Hrothgar should be 'less' than the other races.

I definitely hope it's not just some select modern aesthetics and they are done with it. If it's a continuation of the quality we have already seen, like the ponytail hairstyle, many won't look very good to begin with. Some quality, race-specific, viera hairs would be the best way to go to make up for many of their limitations. The sad thing about many of the circlets and things is that they just look terrible on many of the hairs for viera, with the floating and clipping. Like, yeah, it happens on other races too, but not really too this extent, due to the lack of options, and sheer puffyness of viera hairstyles.

It's possible there will be a few more for Hrothgar, but considering it only amounted to about 6 hairstyles for Viera I wouldn't be too optimistic. Mostly curious to see if they will actually let them change it at the aesthetician rather than just giving access to "all" hairstyles during character creation or Fantasia.

I meant to reply to this awhile back. Yeah, it does read like hrothgar are actually just getting their current hairstyles available for other faces, rather than new wholly unique styles. Unfortunate. Considering they never touched on the fantasia issue specifically, I kind of doubt they have/will have fixed it yet, but who knows?

That was one thing I noticed as well. Instead of saying "We're looking into fixing the fantasia issue", they gave us "we're adding more hairs :)"

Now, Im happy about the new hairs and its kind of a step in the right direction, but the obvious elephant in the room still needs to be addressed because adding new hairs w/o addressing that fantasia issue still does nothing and wont encourage players to spend money to just once again...change something that should be allowed to be changed freely. If they moved the ability to change your pattern to something that required a fantasia, while moving the hair to the aesthecian, I'd be relatively happy considering I've never changed my hroth's stripes in the time since I created him in 5.0

I really just can't wait for the patch, and for everyone to see that hrothgars will actually be able to change hairstyle without fantasia, just so these senseless discussions will stop. It just doesn't make any sense they'd update hrothgar hairstyles and mantain this limitation. It would be like them adding new hairstyle options for hrothgar as an update feature and being, "wanna use the much requested feature from this update? better pay $10". Also, they need to make hroths have a normal hair selection system because of female hrothgars. You just know the fem hroths will have hair customization.
