I actually don't see where this is included in their subscriber agreement without substantial creativity in interpreting them. It's also worth pointing out that you are not required to accept updates to the subscriber agreement in order to keep using Steam and associated products and services, so it would matter what version someone last accepted.

Thank you, I'll take that as you were unable to produce a logical response so the argument is over.

For future reference, if you at least try to provide additional data vs rewording the exact same statement over and over and over while continuing to shun people then we might actually be able to understand you , but you're not, you're just fighting 1 point.

Also 1000000% this, THANK YOU for bringing this up, I forgot to mention that previously, any major scale change WILL SHOULD (since some can be shady about it) require the user to accept the agreement to, despite the initial agreement when signing up for "Policies may change over time" its still a legal requirement. Not saying this current one warrants it but in the aspect of major expacs it can. Thank you Nixxe <3

As far as I can see, the quoted part has been present on the agreement since the start of Steam. So, it has been a thing always and people agreed to it.

I have a Steam account. Steam is currently running. You cannot use FFXIV without an internet connection.

All three criteria, two of which are optional on Steam's part, are fulfilled without me having ever launched the game via Steam.

To all the people mentioning "Contractual issues" as a reason why allowing a change from Steam to PC isn't allowed...

At no point has SE ever mentioned this as a reason behind the segregation of Steam and PC accounts.

Logically, it would be a pretty good excuse for them to use, as it shifts the blame entirely onto a legally binding agreement that they have no control over.

However, the only reason they've given for the segregation, has been due to how Steam handles Expansions as "DLC" with issues that would arise if you say, tried to purchase Shadowbringers but didn't own Heavensward or Stormblood.

Which suggests, that the reasoning behind this entire issue with the separate account types is purely because they didn't want to only add a one way system from Steam > PC without allowing PC > Steam (Though, I'm curious about how this would work out, given that if Steam accepted the codes from PC versions then you would literally be able to add your games and expansions to your account thus mitigating the issues from purchasing directly interfering with how Steam functions)

Given that last caveat about how potentially PC and Steam interlinking could still function (Despite the claims from SE), it's quite possible that they might be able to open up both way transfers, which, if there is some contractual obligations about "Taking" customers or some such legal jargon would at least provide mitigating circumstances in order to bypass them, since they'd also then be offering players to join Steam (Which, people might actually do, to take advantage of Steam sales for example)

Since the way to work this out would be to continue having Steam and PC account remain separate, but with the option to switch over. After which the keys associated with your account get processed and added to the appropriate list that you're moving your account to and removing from the list that you're moving from. Essentially changing your Steam or PC key into the other type (Without having to generate a new key). Then it would simply be a matter of if moving TO Steam, you'd then just "Add a game to your account" and paste in your key(s) for your game and expansions to add it to your library (Which would now work as they'd have been added to Steam's list of keys)

The only potential issue I could see with this would be if you swapped to Steam more than once, where it would likely throw up "This key has already been claimed" or some such...

One thing I'd like to add on to this... this game has been mentioned on these forums before... is Elite Dangerous. You can have both Steam keys and non-Steam keys linked to your account. So I don't think that excuse would wash over. This to me is just SE being convoluted for the sake of being convoluted. (Oh and for the record, Steam and non-Steam players play together in this game too, I know as I've used both). Doesn't matter whether you buy on Steam or off, you get access both ways (so if you buy it off Steam, you get Steam keys given on the house)

XIV is licensed by platform, and Steam is a platform, as they are Windows, Mac, and PS4. Want Windows? Buy Windows license. That's all. The fact until now you were able to "bypass" Steam and run on Windows directly with a Steam licensed game, does not entitle you to continue do so.

Worse, you did broke the license agreement with Steam when you did the "bypass", and Steam technically have all rights to even cancel your game account because of that. It surely won't happen, but please read the agreements you accept when make your accounts. This habit of clicking "I had read" and go ahead without reading isn't good and have the effect to create threads as this, that are wrong from their very basis.

If only I could buy the Windows license and have my account work through that. Sadly, I cannot, and not for lack of trying. I own this game on Steam and PS4, and I have a spare copy on Windows that I cannot redeem on this service account specifically because I'm trapped on Steam.

I suppose, though, screw me for ever being such a plebeian ignoramus that I didn't have five years' worth of foresight to see this coming when I bought this on steam and tied it to my account initially. How dare I wish for any way to rectify this mistake despite the by-now hundreds of dollars I've put into the game.

Should my account have been locked to PS4 since I bought it on PS4 first, then?

We have way too many "lawyers" here..

Wasn't aware that SE/Steam published their contract so everyone can see, or are you guys working for either of them and have access to it. If not, then why are you even writing about stuff you know nothing about.

Also why is it wrong to address SE with this, why should we only address Steam? Are you paying Steam for the monthly subscription? Is Steam the one where your service account is registered?
