Yoshida did say to play Final Fantasy Tactics in earlier interviews so its very likely you're right about it being more based on Tactics.

Rabanastre is where you start in FF12, another game in the Ivalice Alliance... which is set earlier in history than the story in Tactics... there are viera in that area in ff12...

I'm so excited for this! Just hearing "Rabanastre" fills me up with mad nostalgia. Oooooh my gooooood.

Tactic played deep in the future of Ivalice, where all races except the humes died out.
Maybe Rabanastre is a ruin, got another name or is in another part of the world

So does that mean we're going into a grimoire or something? or is this going to be another Nero/Cid storyline, where one of them creates a virtual reality Ivalice simulator?

Well the art they showed was of Delita and Ramza so tactics being the inspiration is pretty high :P /hype!

Think they hinted to Dalmasca being north of othard (or a part of northern othard?) and Rabanastre happens to be/have been there =D
