I have times where I get off my groove while dancing, and wind up turning CS off to DPS and on to heal. I think it happens when I try to switch too soon, not notice that it didn't click off, heal, then hit it again. That time it will click off, I hit aero/ii, then cs then cure, then notice that I got switched around.
I had two the other day in Cutter's Cry. One that ended well and the other just got worse.
I fell in love with healing after getting Scholar, which is currently my main. As a result I have lately been leveling up my WHM, and I usually enjoy doing dungeons to level a healer class.
So first run: Going well everyone knows generally what to do. We get to Chimera and things are going well when the tank accidentally gets stuck and gets nuked by the boss before I can heal him. The boss ends up killing one of the dps and it is just me and the other dps. I end up swiftcasting and raising the tank just as the other dps goes down (at this point my mp was low due to everything suddenly going wrong) and we two man the chimera until i can pop SoS and a potion and raise the dps as well. Unfortunately in the confusion I ended up dying and the dps I was able to get up before that eventually died too. The tank died with Chimera at 1%. It was so close, almost the first time I saved the day as a healer. The second time we fought him it all went smoothly and nothing went wrong so yeah. (Got all 3 commendations that run too~)
Later on I was doing the dungeon again with my brother and a FC member to help with all of our levels. Something was wrong right from the start, as the one DF player was a mid 40s lv archer. Yes archer not even bard yet. When we mention it she denied the fact that she wasnt a bard. We shrugged it off and continued on. Everything seemed fine until we get to the first boss. The archer kept only attacking the soldier adds when they popped up instead of focusing the boss, allowing the boss to regen more hp than we could do to her and eventually ending in us getting overrun by adds. We wipe a couple times due to this and explain to her to focus the boss (or at least the marshal) and even put up markers to try to help show what we mean but she just refused to listen at all. Eventually we just abandoned the duty.
Here's a fun one (warning: low-lvl DR story may be less impressive than it sounds):
On one of my many runs of Copperbell Mines Normal, I got set up with... well, I honestly can't remember except there was a LNC and Lala THM. THM was new, but never said anything. Things were good until Ichorous Ire (I... think this boss attracts all kinds of trouble). Naturally, despite telling everyone not to, the blasting cap was dead after the first summon. Second try, blasting cap lived, but the poor tank got blown to smithereens. Ire goes after the THM (who continuously took hate through out with nonstop AoEs), and LNC summons another bomb. Bomb only hits one half of Ire, and takes out THM with it. Wonderful. SO just me and LNC, and with some very hectic shuffling the fight continues... and the LNC drops (stupid blasting cap). So that just leaves me with Ire in a variety of pieces, some killable. I'm kiting like mad and ask the group as they're discussing how to regroup if they'd rather me wipe. LNC points out that some of them can be killed so suddenly the sole WHM is soloing Ire. I am just going nuts, taking out the smallest parts and now I'm one blasting cap away from finishing... if Ire would just let me throw the dang switch. >_<
I finally summon the bomb and I'm somehow kiting everything, taking out the Spriggan, and keeping myself alive. Bomb goes off, and now Ire's on the ropes. Piece by piece everything falls to almighty Stone and Aero... and I've done it. LNC was just going nuts watching the whole thing, and so was I. I've seen when things go downhill, but never thought I could've actually done anything.
Later the poor THM gets locked out of the final boss, leaving me to try to DPS like mad before the adds come around. And it's too late. The adds naturally go after me and again, I'm having to kite like mad so that the LNC and tank can finish the boss.
End result: 2 commendations from what was a VERY exciting run of a normally bland dungeon. I'm beginning to suspect the THM was a bot... =/
Actually most of my more interesting stories are from low-lvl dungeons, mostly from having to heal while not being a healer (ugh). During the ichorous ire battle in copperbell mines, the tank died by getting hit on the first bomb, so I had to quickly swiftcast titan to tank for the rest of the battle (since neither the healer nor I could res at that level). I was also on spriggan duty while the LNC did bombs if I remember correctly. When we split it into 8 slimes, I Bliz II'd them to death. I swear you could probably solo that fight as a SMN/ACN.
There was also the time in the temple of Qarn where the healer dropped out right before the first boss. I volunteered to heal, but being a lvl50 synched SMN with no mind stats, I pretty much had to spam physick the entire time. I think got titan to absorb one of the bee stings each time as well since I really couldn't help out on DPS. We won, but with the tank dying right near the end, and with the DRG and I on about <500 HP.
My last one was when I was an archer in tam-tara normal the healer dropped out halfway through. I volunteered healing, bringing in cure as a cross-class skill and wearing whatever clothes with mind stats on them that were in my inventory. The GLD/PLD also healed themselves as well which took some strain off. A healer actually came in halfway through the second boss battle, but I jokingly made some random off-hand comment like "you're not needed here :P" and they left the dungeon. We still ended up completing the dungeon with 3 people, but I was still sitting there with a 0_0 expression for a while after they left.
Titan HM for trial, I died post heart to lagging and eating two weights, get raised, immediately the other WHM dies after raising me, I get up, BRD starts to Ballad as I SC + Raise the other WHM. Next set of bombs wipes half the raid (including both BRDs and the other WHM), so now I'm running on fumes. I start poping potions and shroud like candy. Go through two titan rotations and I pop LB3 at the start of stomps to get everyone back up. I manage to recover in time to move outta Weight. I get a little bit of Ballad then both BRDs get wiped again. Other WHM raises a BRD then gets wiped. BRD Mage Ballads again shortly, then gets wiped by Bomb. And I basically healed the MT, myself, MNK, and DRG to victory.
At the end, the MNK was "not bad guys". Um @.@
And now, to let my heart calm down..
Like most of the others that've been DPS in that fight, i pull them to me, then burn them away from boss, I've never had a tank once pick up adds..because who would need to? Two DPS can manage those 3 minor adds that die in like 2 casts of fire 1..
I'd rather the healer get to focus on important stuff, not kiting adds that shouldn't need it.
When I tank SV, I always pick them up and the tank I normally run with always does too. A DPS can easily kill 1 or 2 before the tank can pick them all up. But the nice thing about pugs is that they don't do stuff like that and you're usually left with a dead healer. And my main DPS class is a Summoner and if the tank picks up the adds I can Bane them, which makes my life easier.
Had to run Lost Temple of Qarn for Animus. Easy enough, right? Drop in and remember that this is a level 34 dungeon! OMFG, there goes a lot of the tools I've grown accustomed to. :D
Tank is a WAR with gear under level 30. For some reason, he's opted for armor that has no helmet and no shoes, thus all of his buffs come from his leg and chest armor. His right side is so low level that I think he might have forgotten that they exist or just picked up the stuff given by quests along the way. He runs into the first mob without letting me cast Stoneskin. That's OK, it's not that great, but it helps a little. The trash mob gets him faster than I can cast. Someone says, "Healing the tank might help." My mind says bite me, but I know that would just start a word fight, so I reset our protect and we go in again. First boss, wipe. DPS don't pick up bees, tank can't hold aggro. 3 tries, vote abandon.
I need this for animus, so I reset the queue and in I go again. This Warrior is over geared and probably there for the same reason I am. We get to the second boss and he completely obliterates the DPS. It's just the tank and I. She's probably thinking the same thing as me: why am I level set so low? Every time I try to swift cast to raise one DPS, I get pummeled by the boss. I finally get to where I SC and raise a DPS and the boss kills her before I can bring up her health! Another round and I raise while taking damage. I quickly cure both of us and the tank, then SC is back, so I swift cast - raise the other DPS. I'm about zero on MP and no BARD! Dragoon limit breaks and we crush the boss. Sigh of relief for all :D We get to the next boss and smoke him with no problem. One dungeon down, two to go, then on to book 4! How many again? LOL
ST, I notice Scylla's going a little worse than usual. Figure it's down to our group getting 4+ ice orbs in a veeeeeery short period of time. Sch dies a little into it, swiftcast raise.
...Sch doesn't accept.
PT asks me why I haven't raised the scholar, who hasn't said a word. I tell them mid-dodging / Medica'ing that I spent the MP raising her, she hasn't accepted. We manage to lurch through Scylla, SCH returns and meets us at the next boss, is absent all through the trash.
Same story with the other boss, only I notice the SCH didn't move at all during the bounce-to-the-other-platforms part. This SCH's MP is at full. SCH dies. Bounce, bounce, bounce, swiftcast raise. SCH doesn't accept again. I get mad, and badmouth the idiot in fc chat. Our tank is MT, and I warn him to not take any risks because the other healers are seeing to their own first (Understandable.) and our SCH is practically AFK.
Amon. You guessed it. SCH doesn't cast a damn thing and doesn't even have her fairy out. I lose it, and tell her to start. fucking. healing. She says nothing and at the ice phase, she's standing there and everyone watches her get oneshotted. I click on a vote dismiss when it's over; can't. Someone opened our chest. Scylla's robe of healing. She lots, she wins, she leaves duty.
And I solo heal Xande.
I wonder if I was in one of the other parties. I did an ST run yesterday where the scholar in one of the other parties seemed to spend the whole time dead then dropped right before Xande. I was playing SMN so I try to throw out a res to the alliance when I see it is needed.
I rolled DR this morning and got Stone Vigil (Normal). Our healer sucked bad. We wiped once towards the beginning, healer admitted he hadn't done anything past Brayflox. Healer finally started using Regen on the tank and things went okay until just before the second boss (with the cannons). Just before this a DPS drops without a word and we get a new one. Tank makes an accidentally large pull, healer takes aggro and drops. Another wipe. We somehow get through past the second boss and move on to the last boss. After the boss takes flight a second time the healer panics trying to dodge and gets crushed by the dragon. Wipe. We go again, and this time healer can't dodge attacks. Wipe. Healer admits that he could leave, but against my better judgment the team decides to keep him. The tank and DPS give him some tips, both about the fight and healing. We try again. 30 minutes left. Healer finally pulls through the we clear.
The twist: That dumb healer was me. That being said, I really couldn't thank those guys enough for putting up with me and helping me out. I suspect the first DPS dropped because he saw where this was going (I noticed after the first wipe he took awhile to catch up with us and no doubt was talking with his FC/linkshell about it). It was my third time total through SV, but the previous times I was SMN and didn't have a hard time at all (maybe just one wipe between the two). I'm not sure if that was just a derpy day for me or I actually can't handle healing like I thought I could.
That moment when you realize you don't have any MP left, and you didn't pay attention before... and everyone dies.
:) I smile because I have done this a couple of times in the last year, and am totaly mortified when I do. Spamming CureI, CureII, a Raise, CureII that weakended soul and a Stoneskin, Medica, MedicaII...why cant I cast, am I Silenced? Esuna. No. Wait. What? F**k. No MP. Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Damn you Shroud of Saints; the one time I forget you, you make me pay.....
This is going to be a different "horror story" maybe similar to faris.
So I'm playing SCH and trying for my relic weapon. I'll note that SCH is not my main, and so I'll admit I wasn't keeping him as geared as I should have.
The other thing I'll mention is that primals hate me, especially titan. Almost every time I've done it, I'm dodging the landslides, as well as the pools only to get hit by them when I'm well and clear. I'm almost tempted to just run around blindly since it doesn't seem to have any effect vs trying to dodge them.
Anyway I'm in Titan (Hard) and we are struggling (on our third attempt). I think the bombs killed to many the first time. The second time I got landslid-ed early and the other healer said (not solo healing, and jumped off). I found this kinda funny as the first run he got hit by something and went down. It took my a while to get him up, and so I was solo healing through quit a bit of the phases.
Anyway we are starting the third run when the WAR, examines me and asks, "Summer why do you have a lvl 38 weapon?" I explained that this was my 2nd job and I hadn't kept it up. I think he asked again and I gave him the same explanation. At that point he didn't ask anymore. Now what I thought was interesting in this was, yes I was still using a lvl 38 weapon. But with the exception of a lvl 80 boots and lvl 70 ring, everything on my left side was ilvl 100. Most everything on my right side was lvl 90 with the one 70 and one or two 100s. At the time of the comment about the weapon I was sitting at an average ilvel of 84-89. I will say that the tank didn't seem to push the issue that much after that point. He either gave up and thought I was an idiot or looked at the rest of my gear.
I realize that the weapon plays an important roll in the amount of healing, but I felt I had compensated for it by the rest of my equipment. In all honesty the reason I hadn't up graded the weapon, was because I didn't want to go out and get a upgrade that I'm going to throw away after I'm done with the fight. The 2nd reason I really didn't feel it was that big of a deal, was if the tanks take a huge hit, my primary way to getting them back up would be using Lustrate. So my weapon power would not be the primary issue. Also if I remember correctly the things that were killing us were mechanics (standing in 2+ pools at the same time, hugging the wrong bomb, going down the enticing landslide).
We do beat it and the kicker, the weapon that drops is for the SMN. I won the roll for it. So I guess when I go back through this pain for the SMN at least I'll have a "appropriate" weapon, since that appears to be all anyone cares about.
So there you have the horror story: Either I am a bad player and it was a horror story for everyone else involved, or it was a horror story for people freaking out about the the wrong thing, or it was a horror story for people not being able to dodge mechanics.
Did Copperbell hard on my scholar alt last night. Final boss, the blm said he'd feed the worm since he's ranged. Well he tunnel visioned once the fight started and wasn't doing it, so we ended up wiping. I took over on the second try and we got through it.
level-uninstall-the-goddamn-client I think ;x;
If you recall half of team C being dead through Scylla, that's us! The alliance didn't moan, which I was kind of thankful for.
I've tried writing reports in the past for people that used to AFK Praetorium/Meridianum when that was ran regularly for philosophy tomestones, but only received generic form responses. I don't think the GMs care all that much for cheating players, as long as they're not breaking ToS with cheating.
...As of writing these responses, I've teamed up with an awesome scholar!friend and duo ST heals with her. A few other things have happened in ST (healers not knowing what to do, so mimicing me spell for spell whether it's needed or not) and just... general bads, so I've ran out of patience. For now.
It's worth reporting as harassment/griefing at the very least. If that SCH constantly does what they were doing and gets reported often GMs will take notice.
Signed up for T5 through the Duty Finder as a WHM. Why not? After all, I was bored and figured I might as well help some people learn the early parts of the fight.
I zone in. Mostly new players, which isn't too bad, especially since the tanks assure the rest of us that they've watched videos and read guides of the entire fight. The other healer has cleared the fight as well, so we're off to a good start. Some of the DPS haven't done it before, which is potentially problematic, but as long as most of the party knows what they're doing we should be fine, right?
Nope.
That DF is the only T5 group I have ever been in where the group regularly wiped on the very first phase. Both tanks were determined to be the tank holding Twintania, meaning that upon pull the three Scourges of Meracydia immediately went after either the DPS or the healers. The first time it happened, we just assumed that the tanks were not holding aggro properly on the Scourges (which is a reasonable concern in a group of strangers). When it kept happening though, we finally figured it out and asked the tanks to adjust accordingly. Please, one of you pick up the adds - doesn't matter who, just do it. No dice. The tanks went silent and refused to communicate; upon initial pull, both would go straight for Twintania and fight over aggro while the rest of the raid was left to fend for itself. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. It's a testament to the ability of the healers that we managed to make it to the second phase at all, what with DPS running in panic all over the arena while the tanks stood in fire and beat on Twintania. And the few times we did manage to get to phase 2, we'd invariably start losing people to fireballs or conflags, not the mention that the tanks had zero concept of keeping Twintania faced away from the raid and we'd get random deaths from plummets. Whoops, tank stood in Conflags and wasn't broken out in time. Whoops, tank moved away from the fireball soak spot. Whoops, other tank pulled aggro right as Death Sentence came out.
The best part was when one of the tanks finally ragequit with "u all suk at this game".
That sounds not like a horror story but like a freaking nightmare.
Went into Syrcus Tower as white mage yesterday and when we went in to fight Scylla, I did my usual routine of stone skinning everyone. Then I got to the tank, and it wouldn't let me. Kept giving me an error message: "Unable to execute action due to aetherial interference." Someone pulled Scylla and the tank went in so I decided not to stone skin and went to heal him. Same error message. It took a few minutes for that to stop happening so that I could heal. It was weird because it only gave me that issue with the tank.
Oh god, the tank e-peen finds you everywhere! Even coil isn't safe!
Makes me wonder what video they'd been watching to think their behavior was appropriate. :P
This made me laugh harder than it should have.Quote:

That sounds more like an episode of the Three Stooges than a T5 attempt. >.>
I would have to say, pug Dutys where I keep getting targeted by enemys and have to run for it, and keep having my heal spell canceled by attacking enemys while trying to keep myself and the others alive....or if I run out of MP and the tank dies...then I get yelled at for being a lousy healer. =T.T=

DR Low level, in progress
stone Vigil, they are stuck at Isgebrin.
15 minutes left, we start, and the warrior tanks Isgebrin IN THE MIDDLE, FACING THE PARTY.
Thai means that we all got hit by the ice breath every time.
Running AK for my SCH relic last night I got a group that weren't very... Competent, you might say.
Paladin (with atma weapon and at least i90 gear) didn't try to hold hate on groups, level 55 BLM was pulling mobs from the tank, I was ripping hate from the tank using physick (not overhealing, mind you) and some DoTs and shadow flare.
First boss: I had to heal meself like mad and DoT the golems that spawn. Tank didn't take the flayer to the side of the room to avoid big guy. Had 2 golems still on me by the time we killed the flayer (DPS didn't focus on them).
Second boss: Dragoon and Paladin get shoved off on first repel. BLM on 3rd. I almost killed the boss, but in a frantic healing spasm because Eos died, I was shoved off. 2nd attempt: Tank and BLM shoved off on 2nd, dragoon and I kill boss.
Final boss: Tank holds dragon in middle, I'm the only one running to hide behind a statue to avoid catastrophe (was doing my warning macro as well). DRG and BLM took down adds, but I think every time the tank anticipated one of the stare things from the dragon he would try to dodge it, making the tail face me in time for the tail swipe. We didn't wipe, though I raised both DPS in the fight.
Duty finder..
1 Weak tank
2 Geared Dragoons
Nuff said!
Tam-Tara Hard, had a tank who decided to pull EVERYTHING in the final section of the dungeon, promptly died and we wiped. the tank tried to be cute by saying "Normally, I get healed."
Yeah, "normally" you get healed enough when you are not trying to tank everything and the kitchen sink while also suffering under Disease which, you know, makes my healing garbage.
Did ST as a WHM last night, and my entire team decided it would be fun to stand in every. Single. Aoe...as well as avoiding the water pools during the Scylla fight. I lost count of the number of times I had to swift raise people, lol.
And to top it off, the one time I got hit by some avoidable aoe (during xande, and I didn't die), one of the DRG says 'lol, noob healer, learn to dodge'. (This DRG had died at least 5 times from getting one-shotted by aoe and was wearing mostly SB gear, so I was not impressed.) I left him dead after that, no one else had raise :P
I tried to do some speed pulls in Tam-Tara. Never again. The first one with the diremites, okay that works out fine. The second one with all the souls and wills is a gigantic mess because of all the casters, and the last one with all the debuffs... just... no. I do not need to inflict that on my healer. D:
People that spiritbond in CT/ST have no room to complain about anything; they're basically wasting everyone's time.
I had a run like this this evening. I was on Alliance C, which seemed to stand for Carry. It was horrid. Not only were other alliances derping (both healers in B ended up dead; I res'ed them, putting my own team at risk in the meantime, only to have them die again moments later) but my own people were doing crap like facetanking Burning Rave or staying across the room from us so we had to either chase them down to heal them or raise them after they stood in a completely avoidable AOE. Ugh. We wiped at the last boss at 5% or so because people were ignoring mechanics (nobody wanted to stand in the yellow circles and avoided the black one like the damn plague until AFTER it dealt massive damage to those of us that stacked). Four people from our alliance were the last alive; a paladin, myself, and two DPS (black mages, I think?) I tried like hell to keep them up, but as a solo scholar that just isn't gonna happen even with Eos helping me. We wipe, and someone says over alliance chat, "Save the limit break for the healers." Just... what? Seriously?? A few of the healers told him we shouldn't need it and that people just need to stop ignoring mechanics. He replied with something like "Or we could just save LB, that seems easier."

This one's kind of shaken me tbh. I know the best trait any healer in this game can have is thick skin, and I usually do have that, and I also know that none of this was my fault.
But, I'm really a bit annoyed / shaken up by this entire thing and truthfully it's put me off doing ST for a while.
Setup is 1 pld, 1 blm, 3 smn, 1 drg, 2 whm.
ST, Scylla.
DPS don't dodge anything, don't move to the electricity platforms when tagged with the thunder orb and don't match fire with ice orbs. Other healer also gets KO'ed twice - and it's a big effort for me to manage. I'm resorting to medica'ing, regening people frozen, and using other parties' puddles because we have none. By the middle of the fight, I've raised 3 people and I'm getting low on MP. Dragoon dies, again. Scylla uses her big attack, so I swiftcast raise the dragoon and head for the platform to medica II everyone and hopefully regain some MP. Surprise! We're all petrified. The dragoon then accepts raise, pops up with us, swings round the oceanus to face us, engages it, and we're smacked with it's conal and all die because we're relying on my medica II to recover HP slowly.
Every single DPS complains at me at this point, telling me to heal them. I say to them that I had to raise 4 times in that fight because no-one wanted to do orbs / puddles, and obviously can't heal while petrified. No-one can heal while petrified, what do they all expect?
SMNs tell me they'll grab raises from then on, DRG is still bitchy about it. I say ok, we clear.
2nd boss.
clear first time. PLD is new, makes the mistake of grabbing another party's giant after ours is already in place, tanks other pt's giant with our giant. Alliance starts complaining, SMNs don't grab raises at all and I call them out on it. other WHM dies repeatedly again. (I really don't know what he's even doing) 2 smns argue the fact they shouldn't have to raise and then leave, replaced.
3rd boss.
DPS aren't taking down slimes, I get complained at for being in cleric stance and stone II'ing slimes. I tell the DPS to do their jobs and grab the damn slimes, and that I'm switching out cleric stance accordingly before healing, what's their problem? Other healer dies again, thanks to 2 DPS being tagged with bombs and running right into him. Together. I raise the healer and get frozen. Then we're told in /a from another healer in another party to step up healing. The other WHM blows up, saying I was frozen and he was dead, what does he want us to do?
Fourth boss cleared with no issue.
--
Believe me, I've done ST a lot and I'm always walking away with at least 3 commendations. I know the fights, I know what I'm doing, and I know in this instance I was not at fault and I simply cannot heal through people paying absolutely no attention to mechanics and the other healer being dead / brink of death with about 200 mp on them. What is it with DPS? Why is it a case of people bitch/whine/complain at the healer immediately, without even checking if there's any icons by the healer's name showing that they can't do a damn thing?
HM dungeons, over geared players, tank does not know how to hold the aggro, dps do not understand how aggro gauge works, instead of healing tank, end up healing everyone through out the whole dungeon.
Tank does stop and go speed run, dps would start attack mobs every stops tank made, end up healing everyone again.
I feel you on the ST/CT stuff. Sometimes I get runs where I question my ability to heal, because it seems like I just can't keep up. Then the next run will go perfectly, and I'll realize that the reason I had so much trouble healing in the hard runs is because DPS were ignoring mechanics, standing in AoEs, or running out of range.
*targets wrong person*
"Ahh this tank is taking so much damage! It's like my cures aren't doing anything!"
>.< I hate when tanks aren't second on my party list. I'm so used to being able to press f2 to target them.
Mine would be when running Haukke Manor NM. I was leveling CNJ/WHM since I wanted to test out healing(Maining PLD and BRD) an aspect of any MMO that I had kept my distance from. And I liked all the way ^^. I met a Tank who was absolute undergeared only a few accesories and the worst gear I had seen in my life. I called him out on it at the start but no reaction from him or the others in the party. So i decided to go along with it. And as I expected my heals couldn't keep up. And guess who decides to open his big mouth. The tank calls me out for being a horrible healer(note this was after several attempts), and one of the DPS does the same, most probably playing together. And in the end I got kicked after criticising the tank. Was going to leave either way though, seeing that this would be impossible. I feel bad for any eventuall healer taking my place after
Oh god. You poor thing. I would hug you and feed you cookies cause no healer deserves what you went through. :c
When people keep dying, I just start leaving them dead. When they ask why they aren't raised, I tell them why.
BTW, the slimes - heavy/disease slow them down. I use Miasma II a lot on Amon. :3
