Shots Fired: A Machinist Guide

-Identify the most difficult missile drop point and claim it vocally to your group. You are the most mobile and you should be taking your ad to the most difficult position.
-Overall you should be able to carry mid to low 900 DPS through the entire encounter while keeping your healers manaed up at i185/hive weapon.

Didnt have any misses at 569 acc last night in A1.

Any specific pointers for keeping above 1k dps on Faust Savage? Is that even possible?

Use HQ Dex pot and do your 50s ramp up with ammunition (reload->quickreload at 1s remaining, pull at 10s remaining). Also, refreshing lead shot right before all your buffs fall off is a DPS increase.

Toggling off Gauss barrel when you have nothing to cast is supposed to be a DPS increase as long as you remember to toggle on appropriately.

The real key to this fight is having your scholar and OT put out 500+ DPS. If your group is struggling on Faust, I suggest just waiting for more gear or more individual practice on target dummys.

what optimal food to use for machinist? . I used flint caviar for tonight's raid.

Good info on refreshing dots with buffs up.

I have a problem though. After my burst, do I use reload again or save it for wildfire? If I use it after my burst I'm waiting an extra 30s to start my next wildfire but I'm doing more sustained DPS.

That's really the only issue I'm having with MCH. Is what do I do after burst? I've been using quick reload and off GCDs

I am just curious, how do MCH do vs BRD? From what I saw the world 1st progression groups brought BRD. I've also watched several streams and they all seem to bring a BRD to Savage. I asked about it in one stream and they said they just prefer BRD. So just curious about why that is.

Most likely because there aren't a ton of good MCH players yet. Plus, it's a new class. People are also used to BRDs and they tend to stick to what they know.

Damage-wise, they're about equal. I think BRD might be considered to have more useful utility, but I'm not sure. I'm not sure if Rend Mind or Disassemble have really been used at all and it's just easier to cast Foe's Requiem than it is to possibly have to reposition a turret and then use Hypercharge for vulnerability before repositioning it again to give MP regen.

Your melee and casters must be a complete joke if you need your SCH to do 500+. Average SCH is sitting around 400-450.


MCH should easily break 1k on Faust w/ a DRG in party. 950 without.

Have to mention that MCH does in fact buff physical damage as well. On a fight like faust this is actually worth more than people think. Having a DRG in team gives you the means to hit 1,1k+ dps, but at the same time buffing his and every other physical dps damage is very worth it.

The way I see it, the team composition decides which of the two is more useful.

I've been hearing people claim that they can burst 2k for an opener without a DRG. I have a hard time hitting up to that amount. I pretty much use the rotation on the front page and use food/potions. Also, was wondering in said rotation would be the most optimal way to use the second Wildfire? Want to make sure I am getting the most of it despite reload and some cooldowns not present.

2nd wildfire should look like this

filler skills>HE+BFB come up>filler skill>HE>hot shot>BFB>lead shot>1>wildfire>1/2>rapidfire>1/2/3>quick reload>insert oGCDs as needed

in an optimal run your dots for wildfire burst should always have HE/BFB applied, and RS as well when applicable

With a 180 weapon, no pots or food, I can burst for 1400 without a DRG. I can picture with my Hive weapon, food and a Dex pot it would push much higher.

Why not use quick reload later and use clean shot with RS/pot still on? Also gets you head graze in there with the ogcd that opens up.

Now, I have the following:

1 Pedal and 1 token for the gloves, with A1 and A3 still open, so I could get normal mode Boots and gloves this week.
One thing I'm looking at is at how I should go ahead right now with gearing.

From what I've looked at and calculated (which could be horribly wrong) the Hive weapon + ESO Gloves and Boots will edge ahead in stat weights more so than ESO weapon and normal i170/i180 Chest. But by only a small margin. And also, the hive weapon + ESO chest/Legs will be behind the latter combination.

BUT. After having a quick look at the Accs, the Hive weapon and 3 accs would put me ahead by a lot more than anything. (And if my static downs Sav A1, and I get the ring, that would even boost me even more.)

I mean, I THINK I understand how stat weights work, but if I am missing something let me know:

Eso weap + 170 Chest = 919
Hive Wep + Leg = 902
Hive Wep + Eso gloves/helm = 922
Hive weap + ESO ear, ring, Bracelet = 942

What I'm doing is doing [Stat]*[Statweight] on each gear, then adding them all together to get the "value" of a piece of gear. And then mixing them together with the possible combinations to get the highest value.

That would leave me with high enough ACC for Savage A1, and the highest increase in damage, if I am not mistaken.

I know this is a pile of mess, but my maths isn't the best, so would anyone explain if I am missing something?

clean still hits with rs/pot normally (clipped gcd in video because of lag/gcd clip), but more room for error with higher skill speed/fey wind too

qr is there mainly to get it on cd faster, but if you have low skill speed/lag issues with rapid fire clipping cds then you could do that

You get to Wildfire a whopping two times, 2k opening burst doesn't compensate for the lower dps that follows. But feel free to show me all the parses where MCH is above the melee and casters, which are all sitting at 11xx or 12xx. Highest BRD and MCH parses I've seen are 11xx.

I average 950-980 i182 on mch with pot and drg on faust (single target/not padding dps on adds). My burst opener is about 1.8-2k.

It's quite possible to break 1k if you're i185 or better.

I feel dumb for not checking, but reason I was not seeing high burst was due to Wildfire not being detected on a parser. Changed some settings to get it to detect. Was hitting 1800+ bursts easily without DRG support. Thanks again for the rotation advice.

was lagging a bit so i decided to try this out

you end up getting 1 less GCD buffed by RS+xpot if you do this, because you'd do

split>slug>clean (rapidfire)>split>slug>clean>cast time split

that last cast time split will definitely not be buffed, compared to

split>slug>clean (rapidfire)>split>slug>split>clean

since all the skills after rapidfire here are instant, you get 1 additional gcd buffed by rs/xpot

As long as you get the Clean Shot in, I guess.


Also, why not use RS last?

Hey Velheart, I can only imagine I'm running into a similar problem, were you using ACT as your parser? in the best of situations on a dummy i'm only getting ~600 dps on a 3 minute parse, and that just seems excessively low for ilvl 183. I've been working on rotations as well, and i can get that higher on occasion but that becomes RNG fodder.

Hmm that does seem excessively low. You could probably get similar numbers to that by simply hitting 1 over and over on a dummy. I can only suggest that you study some 3 min dummy videos, it certainly helped bring my numbers up!

Could be an issue for sure. I'll play around with it and see if I can re-create the issue. (testing accuracy atm) I remember with SMN pets if you had the Party Filter on it wouldn't record Ifrit's AA damage or Shadow Flare. So it could very well be an issue between filtering and combining pet/owners.

Why do you toggle off GB at the end? Do you put it back on for your standard rotation after the opener?

So now that I am able to check, yes its showing Wildfire as a debuff, so its not counting any of its damage in my ACT, need to figure out how to get it moved over.

If you can get an oGCD in while you're casting split shot it'll actually proc it earlier than if you hadn't (for example using leg graze or foot graze right after split shot finishes casting).
Of course this only works if it does proc.

Any tips for A2?

I've just dicked around in there, my TP goes dry mad fast. Wondering about how you guys burn your cooldowns etc.

Kind of another reason Skill Speed is so bad for MCN. Rapid Fire also only ever sets to 1.5s.

messing with buff orders

hawks eye>bfb>hyper>rs might be best in the opener, as you don't get or lose any hits from moving hypercharge to 2nd last buff, and with rs on last buff you get it on the slug shot in the opener at 1s duration

then later on when you have buffs to line up with wildfire, i dont think clipping is worth it to try and squeeze multiple buffs in before a lead shot, but still have them last for most of a wildfire. it's probably best to do like

1>hawks eye>hot shot>bfb>lead shot etc

or if rs is up

1>hawks eye>2>bfb>hot shot>rs>lead shot

or (though i dont think pots normally line up, haven't done a parse that long yet)

1>hawks eye>2 bfb>3>rs>hot shot>dex pot>lead shot

the opportunity cost and misaligned dot from doing like, hotshot>3 buffs>lead shot isn't worth it probably, but someone can go math it out if they're interested

I mean, wildfire is only roughly 7% of mch damage, doing a whopping 75-80DPS (depending on crits during WF). I've done a lot of dummy runs where I don't drop under 1200 until about 3 minutes.. if you're having trouble sustaining high, take note of your proc usage and your average wildfire damage, as well -you should see part of your issue there.

Anyways, my point with the first bit is it's not like missing out on that third wildfire means you can't sustain 1k, i only see 20DPS spikes when WF explodes. If you can't sustain high ( and i mean in general) you're probably just doing something wrong :/

my opener is like

bfb > hyper > hot > hawks raging > lead > reload potion > split > gauss + rapid > slug > wf > split > recon > clean > richochet > slug >quickreload gauss round > split slug / etc

8.5k wf's with drg, sustains ~1.1 to 1.2k (last i parsed was a decent time ago, though)

I wonder if cast times on slug and clean and instant split shot would be the answer. That gives you time to react to slug shot procs and while it'd be hard to react to clean shot procs...you wouldn't need to. You can go straight from slug shot back to split shot, if you got a clean shot proc it can hold(So like, 1, 2, 1, 3, 2... with all procs and a generic control setup). It'd make more since for the big hits to be the ones with the cast times anyway.

One might argue too much mobility, but gauss limiting mobility is kinda a joke anyway. If you don't have procs when it's time to move you have feint, or just turn gauss off and back on. I hope as much as the next guy that se owns up and goes 'alright, gauss/wm were a failure, they're gone', but if it's not going anywhere I think this would help a lot making it feel more playable.
