Normally I'd be one of the first to say you don't necessarily have to experience something to understand it. However, that's not an ironclad rule. You can guesstimate (WTF Guesstimate is a word? It didn't Correct it) many things and understand many things without doing them, some however, you cannot.

I won't claim to say how difficult XI was, but I've been in every single one of those instances Fusional listed. I didn't complete them all, most, but not all. It's not a walk in the park. So you can call it trash all you want, but it doesn't mean anything to anyone except "He doesn't like WoW". I don't like it much anymore either, but I have the experience so I have some semblance of what I'm talking about.

I personally don't mind either for death penalty. I use to play bards in ffxi when people still did normal parties. When things went bad, I was the first to die (foe and horde lullaby until the party can get back on their feet.). Because (back in those days), bards got exp like nobody's business. I even soloed drg from 30~75 before WotG came out (it took me a long time) and I've had my share of deaths on even jobs that didn't get a lot of exp easily. Was it disheartening to die and lose exp, yes. More so than damaged gear. But I can't say one is better than the other. It really comes down to personal preference, I think. Basically, when you die, do you want to pay time or gil? Again, I don't mind either as long as it's reasonable (i.e. not lose 3 levels from 1 death or not lose 80% of your total amount of gil when you die.).

if by "anything cool" you mean defending ring and aegis, then you'd be absolutely right! i was about 0/40 on defending ring and had 60/100 or so silverpieces when i quit in late 2006/early 2007, and never really bothered with either when i came back from 07-08. but i did have armadaberk back when it was actually rare. and the ridill you never had and never will. shadow ring, shadow mantle. kclub for unnecessary epeen since i never played DRK. i solo tanked byakko as NIN when your alliance was lucky to win with 3 tanks and 2 or 3 more on standby. i straight tanked kirin as PLD for 30min wins with 16 people back when you needed 24+ people for 2-3 hour kills. does that make you mad? it should, because XI was never a difficult game.

of course you'd think everything in WoW was attainable in a week if you never legitimately played it. typical.

how about this game? what have you done in XIV that's at all noteworthy?

the saddest part is none of this would matter if you weren't trying to paint *others* as casual/bad, which you are clearly attempting to do. so this all sounds like just a lot of projection on your part. and it's really suspicious you didn't offer up any of the information i requested. trying to shed the spotlight, eh? amateur move.

anyway, what we're trying to explain to you is that having an opinion is perfectly fine, but you should also be ready to face the music when people rightfully point out that your opinion is based on outright ignorance, poor perspective and lack of experience. and you can certainly attempt to argue that you possess none of those traits, but you're doing an exceedingly poor job of making that case.

i always laugh when people who've spent their entire MMO careers hitting the same WS macro over and over try to talk about difficulty. would love to see you goons try to maintain a SnD/Rupture rotation through a 10 minute boss fight while dodging shit and maintaining optimal dps.

Can you say something without offending someone?

i'm not passionate about WoW. i'm passionate about videogames (MMOs especially) and reason.

the fact that i played WoW before doesn't mean i'm in love with it. the fact that i don't play WoW any longer doesn't mean i hate it. the same goes for FFXI, EQ2, Tera, FFXIV...

i don't understand why people find it so hard to be objective about the comparative strengths and weaknesses of the games they play. how are future games supposed to get any better if all your arguments are charged with bias?

how can the devs possibly make FFXIV better if all the fans do is say "WoW suxx FFXI rulez" or "FFXI suxx WoW rulez"? it's stupid and pointless.
