Plain and simple, most people who are detractors to those of us who are upset have not been racist or homophobic. Have there been some? Sure, but even among those 'white knighting', almost all of them have not resorted to that line of thinking. Theyve had their personal opinions on it, which to me, is fine. People can play and care for the game in their own way. Much like they may not care for races/gender, there are those on our side of the issue who dont care about things they care about. That is fine. However, claiming some of what you said in the manner said is hyperbolic jack that does not a thing to help the discussion. You can be upset at the detractors for a lot of things, (like how some of them have been a bit aggravatingly dismissive but I digress), but there is a point where you are attributing a lot of malice where there simply isnt.

This isnt to say that there arent bad actors on their side, nor that this side of the equation doesnt have it's own problems. This is to say stop with the hyperbole. You want to talk about specific instances? Fine, lets discuss it. If theyre posting it on the forums, point it out. But stop the over broad brushstrokes. You destroy any credibility if your position is to say "Anyone who disagreed with me is an implicit sexist/homophobe." Because for me, there is a huge difference between saying "Hey, we may not agree over the genderlock, but some of the commentary from a few people here has been absolutely vulgar and uncalled for." and saying "All these white knights covering for SE adn the sexism and homophobia is disgusting." Youre commentary leans towards the latter, not the former. And as I said above, that kind of hyperbole doesnt sit well with me. So stop it.

You make it look like races are no content at all. But they are a big chunk of content. Many people want new races, it's a huge demand and the developers know that. If they wouldn't be, why should SE even add new races at all? Just because it's no real content for you, doesn't mean it's not good content for a huge other part of the playerbase.

Also: I find it funny, how you generalize people, in the same breathe generalizing others yourself. I never threw the sexist/homophobe card. I even think SE had a good reason on why they added the new races the way they did. I just think, it wasn't the most optional way.

Real quick cause this caught my eye, is that statistic 'created' characters, or characters who are currently femRoe? Cause the number is a bit arbitrary as people can change in and out of races (I for one was a fem roe for a few months and it was a fun time. Might even go back to it later for a little bit now that I think of it)

I want to preface this by saying I don't want to pick on your statement, Villz, it just made me think.

New races are content for some of the player base, in the same way that side-trials, side-raids, Hildibrand, etc. are content for some of the player base. There are players who play for aesthetic and little else, where glamour and making the cutest / manliest / blankity-blankiest character is their source of enjoyment within the game. It doesn't seem like content to those who don't play the game this way, but it is a valid state of play, and it is valid content on parity with other states of play, such as Extreme trials. It's more in line with "Casual Content", like Housing tends to be. For some people, collecting furniture and making a nice house / apartment is the game. For other people, standing around all day and fishing in a scenic location is the game. That is what makes FFXIV stand out. There's a little something for everyone being added continually.

In the end, people are free to play how they want, but I don't understand why people see racial additions or features as 'not content'.

I'd like it if they spent more time on customization options in general, to be honest. I don't need another side-story trial, and I didn't need Nier raids. I would have personally preferred being given more facial options for characters, additional body types, or more things to make my character / avatar feel more personal. I would like it if they added more clothing variety to the game, or at least unlocked the class-locks for glamour items, because it is a shame I can't roll that sweet Woad Skydruid hood on my Bard for that sweet Ashitaka-inspired glam.

That said, I am happy for the people who get their side-story trials and their raids. But I keep seeing this talking point like what I would enjoy seeing in the game is somehow less valid content (and thus not equally deserving of resources) because it doesn't involve gameplay outside of a character creator or glamour. Why can't we all just agree that anything added is a bonus, and that it's okay for players to demand or request resources be pooled towards something they would personally enjoy and feel strongly about?

No accusations of sexism, homophobia, or transphobia from me. Just a severely disappointed man who was looking forward to playing dress up with a male-rabbit to create the most savage hunter in the forest.

It changes monthly so I'm pretty sure it's the current number at the time of analysis.

I generalized no one. I was directly replying to the thread and in this thread that is exactly what happened. I know that not everyone hinges on it. But you may want to re-read the OP. Yes, Races are nice. But if it causes something like a new raid, or quest lines gets rush, the actual content of the game gets deprived because of a cosmetic taking up too many resources, I would rather they didn't.

Illusion of choice in, let's face, an extremely streamlined experience for personal aestetic and fanservice. Also, to give the player base some of what they want, and something unexpected.

It's from the March 2019 census of players. Basically at the time of the data was collected, it was based on what each individual character are, regardless of them being active or not. And you're right, it is pretty arbitrary as the actual active amount of fem Roe's would be considered much less than that number when you factor in that this number include both inactive and active characters, and alts that people use on other servers or as mules.
