Aside from that, depending on the stats (and if I understand right, their customizability) they'll make any alternative completely irrelevant.

If this is true I could easily see alot of uproar. Personally I would like it. The Animus alone requires ALOT of farming/work to get. The reward for all that work should be really good. Especially since I predict that Novus will be no pushover to get...

Only thing they need to change is the way ATMA is obtained. everything else can remain the same. I have eight now.

If that link is correct and Novous weps are ilevel 115 then this grind makes complete sense IMO. Changing it would make it too easy to get something that powerful.

No, it would just make it generally quicker- it's already quick for people that have been lucky with the RNG. Difficulty isn't really an issue with lower level FATES.
