Trials as a WAR. Got Striking tree (Hard).
NIN kept overwriting my Storms Eye every time I put it up.
We wipe the first time because dps was slow on ads.
I told the NIN that I will handle Storms Eye, he completely ignored me and kept overwriting it.
I said nothing at this point and stopped using Storms Eye.

I didn't want to give a lecture during an easy trial and waste the time of 6 players. Or worse, get kicked.

It's sad that helping people is a bootable offense nowadays.

i actually had someone listen to me the other day. Sohm HM whm was attempting to dps but was limited to aero 3 and then aero 2 then back to heals. Let them know if they used regen and med2 they could have more dps uptime. Very next pull they did! I was like whaaaaaaat? Ok let's see if they'll try this. So i suggest using holy for more dmg. And they did! So i said i had a couple more tips for them if they wanted to stick around after. And they did! Been a while, good to see some people still don't take immediate offense to helpful suggestions.

My worst story from the duty finder was that time I got a DRK tank in Qarn (normal) in the ilvl17 Novice Hall gear - DPS edition. I did not enjoy healing that run. MNK asks me part way why no dps. My response was a simple "have you seen the tank's gear?" At the end of the run I found the tank was on Faerie and pushed him in the direction of my FC leader who made proper gear for him.

I've been slowly getting over my aversion to tanking in my goal to hit 60 on all jobs before SB hits. So I went and did Leveling Roulette as a Warrior today, and ended up in Satasha with a newbie Lancer.

One of the most important things you can teach a new player is that Limit Break exists, so I asked if he knew what it was. He didn't, so I told him to try it against the last boss since melee DPS are expected to use it anyway. I could see his eyes light up after he used it. After the fight, he was like 'HOLY SHIT THIS IS AWESOME!'

Had a tank in Sohm Al HM spin every single mob and dodge aoes by standing on me and not moving back after the aoes went off. I'm a dragoon.
Hitting the Lava Scorpion from the front only despite dragging every single aoe I was targeted with to the very edges of the arena was... fun... very fun...

Did a Diadem run where the SCH was complaining through the entire thing..despite the fact we did well and got the evaluations done quickly. Then some reason the tank got in on the toxic behavior for zero reason..I don't understand why are people toxic..especially when nothing is going wrong.

Had an entirely incompetent run last night in Dun Scaith (Never do Dun Scaith on Fridays everyone!..) As someone who tanks, heals and does dps it is very easy to spot when people are slacking.. or just plain terrible.
So.. first thing is that the healers are struggling to keep up healing the tank and the group. They died to every mechanics and were pretty much in full 260 gear. Our tank died.. A lot. What makes it even better is that the other two tanks refused to pick up the boss until half of the groups were dead.

So we carry on and get to Scatoh. Oh boy, people dying left right and center as the healers can't keep people up. It's already to a point where I'm annoyed. So onto the final two bosses. Second to last boss as expected the healers died and could not keep our tank up. Queue the epic struggle as it were and one of the healers goes and runs off.. Turns out, they are taking a sodding picture whilst everyone else is trying to beat the dps check. Her excuse.. "I loooooveeee him so much." Him being Diablos. Tank calls her out on it and the response for the lack of healing.. "I dont loooovveeee yoooou so no heal."

So last fight time.. we are already aware this is going to be nasty. Tank dies within about 10 seconds and then the healers promptly follow. We get to around 50% HP on the boss... and a Monk Level 3 Limit Break goes off..Just as it's meteors time.. There were 2 / 3 meteors not being stand on.. All parties are pretty much wiped out bar a couple of people who kept the fight going. Monk got called out.. The excuse.. "I thoguht you'd be able to keep it all going. I guess not." So another DPS then argues this saying if they were paying any attention to the run at all.. "We haven't wiped." was the retort along with a "lol derpgoon."

So here's one from a couple of weeks ago:

A12 normal. I'm an ilvl. 260+ BLM. I load in, see a WAR that has over 30k base HP, and the other tank is a DRK... watching the cutscene... with 22k base HP. Which is less HP than some of the melee DPS, and as a BLM, I have 21k HP.

Guess who had a bonus? Guess who kept trying to tank? Guess who had absolutely no idea what to do with mechanics, or even how to dodge Sacrament? Guess who kept dying to tankbuster despite the healers' best efforts? Guess who was wearing a mixture of ilvl 230 lore gear and SLAYING ACCESSORIES, THE BRACELET OF WHICH WAS ILVL 195? Guess who decided to queue for a raid they had never been in before, with low-durability gear, so that of course it breaks after two wipes?

Guess who, despite clearly having run this trial many times before, had apparently never MTed, which somehow translated to "I have no idea how to pick up a boss when I have to take over tanking, and also I don't know how to cast LB. At all"?

This is one of those occasions when you just really really really despise WAR and DRK for being the "edgelord" jobs that morons all flock to.

Unfortunately, no matter how godlike the DPS and healers were (and anyone who says that we were anything less than deities in that horror show, you can suck it), we simply couldn't carry them. And it was abundantly clear that this DRK was fully expecting to be carried, which is cute considering they had clearly never even bothered to look at a guide for the raid.

As an addendum, after we disbanded, I put up a PF, picked up a couple of DPS from that run, requeued as PLD, successfully MTed A12 for the very first time in 1 attempt, and got 2 comms out of it. Sometimes all it takes is having a brain, using it, and observing how real tanks do their jobs. But clearly, that escapes a lot of people.

I was reminded of this run because of another (of course) Dun Scaith run from this week, which wasn't all that bad, except for the newbie BLM with all of 16k base HP without Weakness/Brink of Death, who was new, yet refused to mention this, constantly died to roomwide AoEs because as it turns out, losing 30% of your VIT takes you from 16k HP to 11k HP, and that is no bueno at all, and for some reason, decided that they simply had to apologise for this in alliance chat.

But even that wouldn't have made them anything special, were it not for one fact: They refused to watch or read a guide before queuing for this raid, because they didn't want spoilers.

"Good call," one of the healers said, "don't want to be too helpful". Because healers definitely have nothing better to do than waste all their MP raising your useless, undergeared ass off the ground repeatedly. It was a good thing I wasn't the MT for that run.

I agreed with that healer, of course, and now that I think about it, I regret not taking the opportunity to slap that BLM a few times at the end.

I'm ok with people free balling stuff like that, but at some point certain people who aren't very bright need to realize that they aren't very bright.
If you go into something and the only way you can get through it is by dying to every single mechanic, maybe look up a guide next time.
Had a no bonus dunscathe last night and 2 people in party had the same last name. I'm convinced it might have been one person trying to dual box. Because. Oh. My. God. They took turns dying throughout the entirety of the run. One would die raise. Then the other would die. Then the first. Then the second. After the second boss i straight up asked them if they knew any of the mechanics in there. It was saaaad. And the bard would frequently have looong stretches between attacks. More than once I'd see him iron jaws. Then nothing for 10 to 15 seconds then another iron jaws. They were both awful.

Had a similar situation in my Dun Scaith this week. A summoner with all crafted gear, obviously who had never done the fights and prob didnt watch a video either. It was apparent in the first encounter they had no idea what they were doing, and from that point on, they got 0 heals or reses from me. They were resed I think 4-5 times on the first boss alone. :/

I ended up with a Paladin in Baelsar's Wall that had a crafted HQ Bismarck sword (yes, the ilvl 180 sword), a Shire shield and pants, and everything else being a mix of item level 220-245 lore gear/dungeon drops. He only had about 21k HP - the lowest of everyone in the party.

However, I say that Paladin has a bright future. Why? Apparently nobody ever told him how/helped him out to get a better sword (and it doesn't help that nobody seems to craft item level 250 weapons anymore), but as a result of that, he's had to learn how to really use his abilities to survive. I told him the name of the tankbuster that the last boss does, so I watched in awe as he Sheltron'd each Claw of the Griffin along with other CDs (plus the Scholar shielding him) to take virtually no damage.

(He explained afterwards that he also only began playing a month ago, and wanted to rush to prepare for Stormblood. To get there that quickly is kinda mindblowing. Alas, he's not in my server, so I couldn't craft him a 250 sword.)

So last night my husband and I do the Final Steps of Faith trial.

I queued as PLD and he was running WHM and as we load in there were a lot of groans at the 'first timer' message that popped up in chat and almost half the raid admitted to being new. The other tank (WAR) confessed that they haven't tanked it in forever and don't remember it all that well so after all the buffs were up, I trotted up to the boss and threw my shield, got him in position and the raid went to town on him. At least a couple people ate AoEs during the first phase but the healers scraped them off the floor and we kept going. Adds popped out but the dps were sort of all over the place and we only got 2 of the 3 down (it was very, very close though) and we wiped in his big nuke. It was explained (again) that the adds needed to be focused down in the correct order and the WAR offered to mark them as they spawned so we went again. Got through the add phase with time to spare on the second attempt (still a lot of deaths to the various AoEs, though) but we trucked along until the final phase and the first Akh Morn destroyed half the raid. We wiped again and it was explained (again) that everyone had to stack for it and a detailed description of the spell was given to the dpser who couldn't wrap his head around the 'giant yellow circle with arrows' spell effect.

So we went again. We made it all the way to the final phase but the healers were under a huge amount of strain from all of the people they had to keep rezing over and over. We (mostly) survived all the Akh Morns but both the WHMs were completely out of MP from healing and rezing all of the people who weren't getting out of the AoEs in time. They even had to use the 3 bar LB to pick up most of the raid and we were just scraping by. We dropped the boss under 10% hp but by then it was just too much and both of the healers went down because they couldn't even heal themselves anymore. The dps we had left burned like crazy until they went down too and at 3% hp, it was just me and the WAR left. He was throwing all the damage he could at the boss and I was chaining every survival cooldown I had left. I burned all my mana on clemency trying to stay alive as long as I could and keep him topped off for when I went down. I was dead, I knew I was dead, but when I glanced at my hp bar with 1% left and knew the next hit was going to finish me off... the cutscene started up.

I still can't believe how close it was. We managed to scrape by on our third attempt by the skin of our teeth. I netted 6 of the 8 possible coms for that run and even if it was just a MSQ trial and not one of the endgame raids, I have never I felt so accomplished for downing a FF boss.

It was my first run. :o

Yesterday, a friend and I get into Ifrit HM. I am AST and hes a DRK. My friend kept wondering why he kept grabbing aggro from the other tank when he was not provoking until he realized it was a level 59 GLD..... How did he go this far without nobody telling to grab PLD?!

It's always nice to down things on the first try when everyone performs perfectly and all that but there IS something immensely satisfying about those runs where you barely manage to pull through and most of the party is dead. The sense of "Omg....I can't believe we pulled that off!!! That was awesome!!!" is amazing. :)

Speaking of barely managed victories I had one of my own last night in some heart of the creator spam.

First time through it was shaky since one person missed the jump action and got left behind to be blasted, then we didnt focus down the spheres fast enough so one stayed up and we wipe. We try again and no one dies at surf mode and it all goes well till 20% hp which apparently is where most hiccups happen and a chunk of people die but everyone is back up.

Then the Oh crap happened: at 2% the big yellow AOEs show up and the whole party is slammed leaving just me barely alive and the main tank at less than half health, so Im firing away as hard as I can and cruise chaser's hp hits 1% and is barely existing on the bar then the tank dies and it comes flying at me. Meanwhile I got no procs loaded as most everything was on cooldown leaving me with only head graze which I used and killed it!Staying alive at 300ish health at the end, I think Machinist may be my new main for a while.

Not DF, but PF:

Since I'm having company atm I'm a little short on time atm but I choose to join a "clear for a friend"-nidhogg-party while my friend was busy - "clear for a friend" should be done in about 30 minutes, right? It means "Most of us have the kill/full exp and just this one guy needs a bit help now", right?

Apparently this group thought it meant "at least half of us has never seen the fight before and would like to practice it" - thats at least the vibe I got from four of them dying within the first phase. So I asked them about it - wether they want to practice it or clear it for a friend as their PF claimed... and I got greeted with some pretty nasty comments about how this wasnt a farm party and how some of them simply dont know the fight (I even explained I wasnt looking to farm and that I was merely wondering because the performance clearly didnt meet the PF-description) We even pulled again with a DPS missing so "they could see a bit more of the fight" - excuse me? "See a bit more of the fight?" as in: See the adds (but not be able to kill them anyways) within a party that was supposed to just kill this for a friend...?
Dont get me wrong, normally I'm up for helping but its always nice to see that there are not only people who cant read PF-descriptions but also those who cant write them properly... or did "Kill for a friend" means "We will practice this for half of the party from the start" today?

I've always wondered about these "clear for 'a friend'" parties. If you need a clear for a fight, why not make a party finder yourself, stating "Clear for myself, got experienced friends helping", why have "your friend" set it up for you? And if it truly is set up by an experienced player for their friend who is trying to get a clear, why demand (as they usually do) everyone else to have previous clears when your friend does not? The whole concept just doesn't make any sense to me. :D

I mean, why would I spend my time to help someone's friend to clear a fight, if they can't even bother to put up a party finder for it?!

That is a mandatory duty of the MSQ, if you don't get new players there, I wonder were else they must be. That groans seems misplaced and unreasonable.

I actually love doing Final Steps of Faith. It's such an epic fight. Last time I got it, I joined in progress and most of the party had left the newbie before the first pull. So we re-filled, I asked an FC mate to join in progress and take the last dps slot, and it was a bit difficult - people kept dying in the last phase, I kept raising my co healer and other party members over and over again, finally died at the very end but we managed a clear by the skin of our teeth and it felt epic.

It's always so cool to get first timers through that fight.

At least for me.

Queued up into Leveling on Astro and got Cutter's Cry. What do I notice first? The tank only has 100 more HP than I do. We literally wipe to the first pack of mobs because he proceeds to stand on the geysers. A quick of his accessories and... it's all level 1. The fun doesn't stop there though! He's a Gladiator. A joy to heal, let me tell you. In all fairness, he was entirely new to the game. I'd be a bit less... frustrated if he dodged aoes though. By some miracle, we actually make it to Chimera. And this is where it all goes horribly, horrible wrong. Said tank gets hit by nearly ever aoe as per usual but no one can consistently dodge Ram's voice. Seven. Yes, seven attempts and we wound up vote abandoning with only two minutes left. Adding to it all, both DPS were mentors. Nice and a little chatty, especially trying to help the tank, I'll give them that. Unfortunately, like I said... they couldn't dodge any better either.

I swear to god, if I get one more AST using Nocturnal Sect when I'm on SCH...

And like...to make things worse, these ASTs are almost always lazy and/or bad. I just got out of a Ravana run (I know it's not even a remotely hard trial, but still...) when the AST spent the whole time spamming Aspected Helios and couldn't be bothered to dodge anything. At one point they died and I just sat there debating whether or not it was even worth it to rez them because between the two of us, we've spent more time healing her and her alone that the rest of the party combined.

The other night, I queued as PLD with my healer friend for Expert Roulette. We usually go with folks from our FC, but we were having to run a bit later than usual, so we decided to take our chances with just the two of us.

Lo and behold, we get Baelsar's Wall, with a SMN and a BLM. Both of them have flowers, but I've seen some badass flowers, and so here I am thinking we've hit the speedrun jackpot.

First pull I do small to try and gauge how our damage output, and...it takes five minutes. Literally. The first pull of five mobs takes five minutes to die with a BLM and an SMN, both in 230ish gear.

Oh boy.

In order to not give my healer a heart attack when my CDs are cooling down and the mobs still have 70% HP, and in order to let these flowers hopefully find their feet, I continue to do tiny pulls to get to the first boss. But as we're fighting, I decide to take a look at the party frame, and to pay close attention to enemy debuffs so I can see what they're doing.

The SMN has Ifrit out on trash (with Sic on instead of Obey), and is only spamming Ruin (I never see any castbar for Miasma or Bio II). From the debuffs? They're only using Tri-Disaster, and filling in the blanks with Bio. I don't think I actually saw them use Aetherflow, either, and they certainly weren't using Dreadwyrm Trance.

The BLM? Fire and Blizzard spam, no Fire III, no Thunder, and never once used Enochian.

But DPS seemed to be getting slightly better as we progressed, so I had hope for the boss.

This hope was misplaced.

SMN switches to Garuda for the boss. The encounter goes decently until the adds drop. Neither the SMN nor the BLM switches, despite being tethered. SMN dies, healer revives, I try to Clemency the BLM back up, but they go down. One of the adds tethers to me, the other to the healer. Healer goes down. SMN does not revive, and we wipe.

Running back, my healing friend tells the group that the adds need to die ASAP. They are silent. Once again, we start the fight, and it goes well until the adds spawn. It seems they listened, though, because the adds go down just before both of the flowers have died (the BLM is left with less than a thousand HP, and the SMN is toast). SMN gets revived and they get healed, but we're not as lucky on the next round of adds, which kills them, then the healer, then me.

We try it one more time, and I can tell my friend is getting irritated with these people. With her working her ass off to heal us (and me throwing out as many Clemencies and Stoneskins as I can), we get the boss down to 20% before she OOMs and we are overwhelmed.

The vote-abandon passed faster than I have ever seen.

Perhaps it would have gone a little better if I'd taken the time to explain what I knew of these jobs to these folks (such as: Aetherflow is important, Fire III is your nuke, keep your DoTs up at all times, etc.), but when it was already late, I didn't expect these folks to take too kindly to having their jobs explained to them (after all, if someone tried to tell me how to play PLD, I might get a little annoyed).

At the very least, karma was kind to us, as we were paired in full 270 DDs when we requeued, and were out of the dungeon in 15 minutes.

"Oh, they're helping a friend to get the kill, so they must know what to do!" - or maybe the friend in question didnt feel confident enough to set up a PF and they were dragged along...? Some might be looking for a carry for their friend when they demand full exp or the kill, so theres that...
To be fair: I get parties that only need a last person or a little extra push often enough when I'm helping out a bunch of strangers in the PF - so normally my experience arent as bad as yesterday (with a healer literally asking what to do with the marks in the first phase - showing that they clearly had no idea of the fight at all...)

I got the feeling it was more of an "Aw man, why couldn't we get an easy roulette?" reaction than anything else. I'll say this for the people who weren't new- no one bailed, even after we wiped a few times and they were very patient in explaining it (multiple times) for the new people who apparently hadn't bothered to watch any guides. No one got snippy or started finger-pointing, they just picked themselves up and were like, "Okay, next time remember to do X mechanic." They might have been a little exasperated, but were far from the level of the toxicity you unfortunately tend to see these days.

So I had my first bad moment in duty finder. I finally got to lvl 60, and the whole time I have only done bare minimum dungeon runs etc because I'm just getting thru it as fast as possible so like just running whatever I have to once. I got to final steps of faith and got akh morn symbol on me and I didn't know what to do so I died, and everyone was like "You're lvl 60 its a basic stack icon.." And I'm like i haven't seen that icon yet and apologized. And got totally bashed by everyone. Ok nice way to treat new players guys. :/ It happens I guess, just kinda embarrassed.

I'm sorry to hear that - and have to admit that a lot of us people who are spending way to much time in the game are getting easly annoyed by someone who went through 100hours+ of gameplay and still doesnt understand basic stuff. We all tend to forget that those people might not have as much experience as we expect... best way to prevent that is probably to be pro-active - and ask for advice/reminder at the start of each duty until you've fully grasped the concepts again ;)
Because while I'm sorry this happend to you - at level 60 you cant really be considered a "new player" anymore - specially when a lot of mechanics are repeated again and again and again and people "rightfully" expect everyone to bring a certain, basic knowledge to the table - much like knowing your rotation, dodging AoEs and what gear to use

Yesterday my 2 friends had a leveling DF with a SCH and a BLM.

SCH was always in cleric stance casting nothing but heals.
The BLM was spamming Scathe with blizzard spells.

I finally got to lvl 60, and the whole time I have only done bare minimum dungeon runs etc because I'm just getting thru it as fast as possible so like just running whatever I have to once. I got to final steps of faith and got akh morn symbol on me and I didn't know what to do so I died, and everyone was like "You're lvl 60 its a basic stack icon.." And I'm like i haven't seen that icon yet and apologized. And got totally bashed by everyone. Ok nice way to treat new players guys. :/ It happens I guess, just kinda embarrassed.

I know it was not right, esp getting worse after explaining you where new, but the reason they reacted like that is because that icon is everywhere in raids. It is. I even think it is in ARF too, I do not remember all the places where that stack icon exists but I thought I explained why they said that.

True I just never saw that thing before >.<

Try not to think about it, hun. I know that's easier to say, but even the best of us have had those moments. Some people just have no patience and forget not everyone has reached the point they have yet, be it in progression or experience with certain mechanics. If you're ever unsure of a fight, I highly suggest looking up a guide or even just asking in ask if there's anything you should know.

It is a semi common mechanic in later trials and raids but its not a common one in dungeons. The first time I saw it was in Final Steps, long after I reached 60. Its very easy to hit 60 without encountering that mechanic or many others and getting upset with someone for not seeing it or trying to blame them for not knowing it is kinda sad.

If you know its not right, don't try to rationalize it. Simply put, its easy to avoid raids in this game because so few are required and a lot of people avoid raids because of this mentality that people should know mechanics because they're everywhere regardless if they're new to doing it or not.

This is wrong. Whether or not you choose to designate someone as new has no correlation to their experience and how they leveled up or what mechanics they've seen. If someone is new to the fight and hasn't seen the mechanics before then they're new to it. Getting upset and making excuses for why you have a right to be upset isn't a very good attitude to have. Instead of blaming the person for being new, how about trying to help? Or if thats too much, just refrain from trying to make them feel bad simply because they haven't done all the content?

So I go to do my Mentor roulette!

Its Titan Extreme. Of course I groan at this. ;; I know the fight, but I don't feel like I'm good enough to teach a whole group of newbies. Whatever. I queued for mentor roulette, I knew what I was getting into, was hoping for something a little easier, but that doesn't mean I won't do my best.

We hop into the fight and we get him to 50% before the first wipe, there is a tank there that knows it well, a mentor too, and he takes control and starts giving constructive criticism, thank goodness, it made me less nervous, and so I point out a few important things too.

A few wipes later we notice one of the other mentors, a MCH (with the title "Mentor of mentors"...) is AFKing...

We kick him and get a BLM that is WAAAAAAY better, and we start making progress again.

I ended up dying in the final go and the BLM and the MT PLD and the OT PLD end up taking us to a victory.

It was messy! But we got few people their clear~ ^^

Thank you so much, especially to the PLD (C.K.) and the BLM (S.M.), you guys were stellar and patient, I know that you were there for the newbies >>; but haha you really helped me too. It was a really nice experience.

Ramuh HM. The DPS are 1 BRD, 2 BLMs, and 1 SMN. Guess what would be helpful here?

Foe Requiem? Yup! Now guess if the BRD ever sang a single note throughout that entire fight?

No? Also yup! They completely ignored me when I, as a BLM, asked for it.

"2 BLMs, a SMN, ok then, foe requiem is clearly worthless", I wrote, irritated at the lack of response and feeling the need to vent with sarcasm.

"stop complaining", the newbie WHM then wrote.

So if you've ever wondered why we can't have nice things? Now you know!

Ran the Vault in levelling roulette last night to get my AST to 60, got in a group with a DRG, a BRD and DRK. DRK was the only good player....

The BRD (the class I main) refused to put on Wanderers Minuet to buff his dps because "I'm better like this" - he wanted to move quickly but never moved quite at the right moment and took damage off several AoE's.

The DRG stood on and ate every AoE that was possible and in the end boss he thought it would be helpful to run and stand next to me when we were chained together. Joke was on him when I survived like a boss and he died, I raised him but I think he got the message when the DRK /facepalm'd him.

Following this, I got in Battle in the Big Keep with a fellow AST. We both had the same sect on so I switched....sadly the other AST also did the same so I switch back and, I kid you not, other AST did the same so we both end up with Noct Sect on as the fight starts. Yay. Luckily as we move to the next boss I manage to switch to Dir before tank runs in. I then end up healing the trial because apparently AST with Noct is a dps....he didn't heal once and spend 90% of the fight dpsing the boss. He didn't even attack the chain....

I had a vault run a while ago where our MNK seemed to not know how to play his class at all, so as a MNK main (I was AST at the time) I offered him some advice. His response "Better kick me then". I tried to politely talk him down, but then he ran all the way to the entrance of the dungeon, then left the group.
