No prob. And yeah, I would say that the majority of the playerbase craves variety, if the results of this poll are any indication: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...-Zones-Variety
It's a pity the game engine hold back so much potential.
As for a dev response, what more can they say right now besides, "we recognize the problem, and we'll address it after the major portions of the battle revisions are complete"? (Because that's what they'll say. That's just the state of things at the moment)
I think if a community rep popped in here and said "we're looking into it", he'd get a lot of negative feedback for it, but really, I think it's safe to say that they actually are "looking into it" without having to say as much. Going by what YoshiP posted back in March, they are at least planning on some kind of redesign, we already know that.
I think what most users crave for is specifics, but realistically, the devs have been so busy with battle system reforms and server/game code optimizations that I doubt they had time to give zone redesign any significant thought to warrant a detailed post just yet.
But anyway, the point still stands that, for what it's worth, it would be nice to at least have an additional reassurance from the dev team that they are aware that this is a serious problem and that yes, they will address it in the future.
See, I'm a little torn on this. On the one hand, There's nothing really wrong with DX9 if you know what you're doing. On the other hand, it's pretty clear that you need a very new PC to run the game adequately, and you might as well not be running XP on it. In the case of some of the newer hardware out there, you're doing yourself a disservice to run XP on it since the driver focus has long shifted to Win7.
At the very least, if they moved to DX10, we could finally have Alt+Tab support in fullscreen. Not that we can't have it now, but it seems pretty clear they don't *know* how to make it work right now.
It's a very interesting proposal and I hit like.
welp 80 pages and 800+ responses...ON A ROLL TO 1k!
just some older videos i found that make this point overly clear:

oh the lolz...
About a week or so ago Yoshida responded to the Dev's questions in a post similar to this on the JP forums. The direct translation was:
I just woke up and don't care to go 10-20 pages back to find the link but it is there. Just search around.Quote:
Thank you for all of your concerns regarding maps. Like you, the players, Yoshida is also very concerned about the layout of the maps, and although we have a great deal of work to do, we are working on plans to substantially redesign the maps. However, as previously mentioned because we have to work on fundamental changes first, it is going to take time.
Thanks, that's good enough for me.
Thanks, I appreciate it a lot!
Thanks Siobu :) just trying to do my part to make all this possible and fixed to some extent.
Also I wanted to add that yes we might get an answer using that they are working on the battle system first and will look into this after but from what I understood, Yoshi did say they had multiple teams working on different aspect at the same time and I don't think the map/level designers has anything to do that might be related to the battle system... so they might as well start working on that right now :P
Even when they're done with those, there's still more content they're developing for the future.
As for copypaste quest hubs, I didn't get that feeling when seeing the pics YoshiP posted in that letter (but then again, I haven't looked at it in a while), so I'll just wait till I actually see it in person before making judgement.
You'd be surprised. One wrong brush, one wrong prim, one wrong physical item and an entire chunk of the map has to be re-meshed, then re compiled.
My most extravegant map that I've made in CS:S took me 15 hours to recompile and it was a small combat arena with a bit of water and weather effects.
I can only guess at how much time it takes them to compile huge world environments for XIV.
Yes it would, and I really hope I am wrong and that each camp is different than the next one. Just not setting the bar too high.
@Cairdeas, altho I know next to nothing to level/world design I am sure you are right but still those are part of patch 1.18 so they should be pretty much done no?
I personally think a lot can be done to make the current zones more interesting. Whilst I do agree that we need more variety, the more I think about it the more I'd prefer they focussed on expanding the world and adding new areas, rather than redesigning what we have now.
For example, they could fill up a lot of currently empty areas by adding new content like the hubs to the pre-existing base. A large space in La Noscea could be filled up with a farm or something for example, with quests and things related to protecting the animals/harvesting/building structures etc etc. Then they could add beastmen and human settlements spread around. If they could make it so that wherever you are in a zone, there's always SOMETHING unique to see and explore, I'd be pretty happy.
I don't think I'd really care about repeated objects, if that were the case.
It would probably take the same effort as redesigning areas to implement new and much more varied/interesting high level zones surrounding ishgard/ala mhigo/shariayan.
I really hope the 'hubs' are the start of making the current zones more interesting in a relatively efficient way. If they added things like OP teleports to the Hamlets dotted about and had hamlet defence too (as well as chocobos available at said hamlets) I think the world would have a much better feel without having to redesign it.
We got an answer in the german thread:
(Sorry for the bad translation, google helped. ^^)Quote:
Greetings,
I have good news. Yoshida-san told us that a revamp of the maps is in planning and thus they are also making good progress. However, since this implies some fundamental changes, it will unfortunately take some time.
Isn't that the same thing we were told in March, sentence per sentence?
EDIT: Correction. I cannot find a post by Bayohne, Rukkiiri, or Hvinire stating what the german post said. Therefore, this is news.
:D:D
Well if they did say that in march, it's still true today then. If they planned to revamp the maps it's good news. To revamp them to what extent is the question now.
Great opinion!
People who speak only Japanese want to change this world more.
So we push Like button.
S.E likes NA's opinion so would you please talk about this more??
Thank you!
would be nice if they just officially said it here, especially if they already have an answer.
When were these responses by the Japanese and German CM's posted? Also if it was in March that we last heard Yoshi P talk about redesigning Eorzea we could only hope for a little more insight on to what they have planned and what they have currently done to tackle this issue. Also some artist renderings from the SE team on what they would like the different zones to look like and how they plan on achieving this goal would really get my confidence in SE a bit higher than what it is at now.
But i still think it is strange that nearly all the other language forums get an answer except for us? So here is to hoping they are saving the best response for last (info wise)
Demacia is OG ^_^
ok posted some of the translation from comments here into JP side, sorry if I didn't get your post translated... can't translate all >.<

The Development Team will find it difficult to ignore this new Nippon-North American FFXIV Alliance.
Well, the Japanese response was back in March, but the German one was just about 5 hours ago. :D
Vielen Dank für all die harte Arbeit, Meph! :3
Also, 392 "Likes!" I think it's safe to say we're the mosed "Liked!" thread on this forum by a longshot. The most I've seen that comes close was like ~200. Go team!
would be nice if they would blow our minds away with the incoming patch "changing radically Eorzea" and being exactly what they say and not just meaning the game. Maybe they actually have all new revamped maps and diversed zones and we will cry tears of joy when it comes... :P it's fun to pretend.
shameless bump and +1 post to the 1k posts before the crown!
I don't think the thread is being ignored. The mods probably just don't want to post that they're looking into it because people whine when they do that. So instead we'll have to wait until they have looked into it.
OMG. These videos (especially the second one) are very telling. They are something the dev team should be forced to watch. Seriously. It's shameful.
COPY PASTED 11+ TIMES!
There are people who argue that the mini-map detracts from the exploration factor. Well, if I didn't have it, I'd be lost in everything-looks-the-same hell.
P.S. I think MikeB (wowfony) is great! I love his BFF Report.
Wow, Meph! How exciting for your thread! Wonderful, thank you very much. Hopefully the other community branches will hear something soon, too. :D
A thread over a week old, yet it's still growing...!
This thread calls for a true adventure from 1 to 50. From 50 and beyond. For unique and diverse environments. To move forward through the world, to leave the city walls and the starter zones. For our strength in ranks to take us to new places, further away, dangerous and challenging, but beautiful. To open the possibilities for expansion beyond our current world.
Here's to a crown! :)
