I'm pretty sure the stats that you can change aren't going to be enough to make a conjurer a DD. Probably more like the difference of a bard being dd/support rather than whm/support or a paladin being tank/dd or just solely a tank.
Having some fluidity is great, but too much will cause a difficult partying experience. At least in FFXI (or when the game was released, I haven't played recently), having a bad healer or tank tended to mean a dead party and that game didn't even allow stat changes. There was a learning curve for the role in the party and playing the job well. Having some auto-class structure, let's partys form easier and more smoothly.
Andi, your teribad at healing and I demand that you change your stats to better beat Ifrit. You could have healed for at least 200 more hps!
ehh, got to agree with princess here. First of all, i think Betel overvalues conformity, 2nd of all his assumption is that the community is right, when in practice this is highly questionable. 3rd of all the assumption that left to their own devices, people will more often than not make builds that drastically effect other peoples progress negatively.
Fact is, just because you do your own thing doesnt mean it will A)suck B) that its wrong C) that you can make your own build without screwing everyone else.
there have been numerous occaisons where people thought there was only one way to do something, it was in fact the societal norm, and they were wrong, this happens irl and in game. It even happens that the societal norm is actually NOT the best way to do something.
i honestly dont think we will have that much ability to change either, but i disagree that it would be horrible, imo they should allow players to set their role in their search, or characher, people making parties can than ask for healers, or tanks or attackers, and get whatever they are looking for. Part of that looks like it will be in 2.0, they have these shorthand names for the players in the battle in the screenshot
Andi, Your builds are clearly terrible. It took you Almost an entire week to kill Ifrit. If you just conformed and raised your hand screaming "Hail Hitler" like everyone else, you surely would have succeeded in half the time.
Oh Wait. Societal norms aren't always the best option.
That's more bad skill than bad stats, since as you said there was no stat allocation, which is a completely different topic. I suppose I should have said the player needs good skill too, but i thought it was implied.
I agree with this, my examples weren't meant to be taken literally, just having fun.
