Okay, Dun Scaith. On a monday. Always a bad idea, I know, I know. But this right now was... impressive:
We met enrage on the first boss twice (once at 16%, the other time at 13%) - why, you ask?
My best guess: alliance C was dead almost the whole time. I dont even know how or why they died, I only know that I had to raise both healers about 5 or 6 times... and that apparently one of them yelled at their group to "go and watch a guide"

This, we seriously need restrictions applied to Dungeons requiring you to wear a Job Stone.

People seriously troll Groups like that, even in Alexander Creator, it's not funny when you're doing A12 that often in a row and get bashed by something like that *lol*

TFW you get harassed an entire run of Dun Scaith cause the party (who were pretty much all from the same FC) thinks healers shouldn't dps.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Why don't you harass the other healers and tell them how to do "their job" if their party is dying? Then the sch locks them self out to make me heal alone cause they don't get the credit they want for healing the party and other parties. They kept threatening to kick me, but never did cause they wanted me to "eat 30" for utilizing myself to my fullest potential. Too many times I see other healers, stand around afk cause there's literally NO healing that needs to be done. So I guess that's better.

Levelin me alt yeah? Shes a Marauder with a sprout. I completed the first four dungeons with her, Sastasha through Halatali. I was the only sprout in three of them. Each time I loaded into one of them, one of my partymates said something along the lines of "Oh my god why", "We are all going to die", or "I have a bad feeling about this...".
The impression I got was they were referrin to me. Their sprout tank. I loved the doubt at the beginnings I have to admit. Made the commendations at the end all the more sweet. =)

I almost wiped on ifrit in trial roulette yesterday.

Mechanics exist and are not ignorable.

In Dun Scaith yesterday, the dps was so low the raid wiped on the crystal trash. ALL the crystals spawned mobs, then the mobs romped through the raid til everyone was dead. Two of the tanks didn't pick up anything for the entire raid.

Nothing in this thread surprises me any more, and not much makes me laugh either, normally just a blank stare at the screen. but did get a chuckle from this.

reminded me how other day we wiped on a3 NORMAL before even getting to the boss. soon as we loaded in, the whm threw up a med2 then someone ran through all the slugs trash facepulling. soon as regen ticked all the slugs came down the stairs at the whm before anyone could do anything, then we wiped just to none of them being together and everyone so far apart (some people fighting down by the spawn point, some up the top on the scorpion).

I gotta ask, is there any reason to use a pomander of rage on a boss? Got to floor 50 on my alt and decided to use lust since my damage was the weakest. I'm firing away and noticed the NIN next to me is a manticore. Edda was going down SUPER slow and we eventually wiped (we were 3 dps and a DRK).

Joined PoD on my AST, get in a party with WAR, DRK and another AST. 4 Floors in and the DRK drops out. New member joins while we progress.....it's another AST who wants to clear the final boss (having wiped several times previously).

In the Edda boss fight, The other 2 AST's dps with cleric stance on but forget to turn for cold feet, despite being told, and continually get hysteria buff. 1 AST with low level pool gear sucks at healing (even with buff) and I end up with low MP which is slowly restoring (I draw bole more than 2 times in a row.......). Me and the Tank manage to dodge the circle AOE....other 2 AST's are not so lucky and die....I res an AST and we manage to kill the boss.

On the way out the other AST, who doesn't need the floor clear, insults the party. She wanted to wipe in the end boss to repeat the floor....even though we agreed to help the other AST clear it.

I don't know where I find these people.

Almost wiped in Praetorium over the weekend. Had 2 earth mages and no healers. :confused:

I've never understood how someone can take the proper healer play of DPS'ing when possible and somehow get "never heal" out of it. It's just... where do these terrible people come from?

I think you've misinterpreted my post, as immediately prior to that post I mentioned that I've been going into 24-man raids on THM since 2.1. I frequently finish as top caster and I can't remember the last time I finished outside of top 5 in overall raid DPS.

So obviously, I'm completely against requiring job stones for entry. The point I was making (in the post you quoted) was that even if you require a job stone, bads still gonna bad.

Tbf, isn't Praetorium a bit of a clusterfuck to begin with? Everyone just wants to rush like hell through it.

Levelling dps, got Amdapor Keep hard. The party was struggling a bit with mechanics, wipe on second boss. Tank (mentor) "noobs! Idiots!". My reply "nice mentor crown you have there". His reply "f*** off".

Yeah. He's a moron. You use Arm of the Destroyer when targeting five mobs or more and Rockbreaker at two or three. That said, even with single targeting. A few of those mobs should have died fast enough. So I'm wondering if he even knew his single rotation properly.

Mnk shouldn't have TP problem if they know what they're doing.Its Drg though...even single target mob/boss,Goon might run out of TP before mnk even the mnk do the aoe rotation.

Even as DRG, if both dps are doing aoe, you should be able to finish off all the mobs before you're drained completely dry. I've been doing EX on DRG lately. As long as both DDs are aoeing, it's doable.

If they're not....then no. :(

Well from my experience,its kinda rare to run into another Good melee on DF.
Even you're Good melee yourself but if ya got paired with bad dps,You'll run out of TP soon enough.
And one thing is clear...Ran out of TP as mnk ain't frustrate as much as goon.

Tank was DRK and other DPs was BLM.
Tank did large pulls and trash were dying fast.
Me and my friend have our BiS.
At the end of Expert Tank says that dps was great and things were dying fast and he complements BLM.
But.. BLM was doing almost the same DPs as the DRK.. Most of the DPs was done by me and my SCH friend.
Felt so unfair that people will always assume that if trash are dying fast then it is the BLM or SMN doing all the job :(

Got kicked from leveling roulette today. One DPS went AFK for 10 minutes RIGHT before the final boss of Haukke Manor. When I voted to dismiss by reason of AFK, the rest booted me.
They're all on my server, too. Not sure how this isn't abuse of the dismiss function, but whatever.

Can sympathize with this. Like, I wouldn't call myself hardcore, but I do try my best to optimize my opener/micromanage my pet (I read essays worth of guides to work out the numbers and find something that worked for me when I was starting lol), and probably 80% of the time I've been paired with another SMN and I just side-eye them the whole time because I can't understand why they are doing the things they are doing. :/ Well, I do, they're lazy and didn't learn micromanaging and think DoTs are enough, but still!

As for BLM... I dunno why everyone assumes they're top DD all the time (it's a SMN pet peeve too haha). Most never optimize their rotation well enough to pump out the numbers people like to brag about. I can count on one hand the number of times I've run with one that was genuinely good at their job. XD (but the ones who are good put all of us to shame LOL).

Today I tanked Diabolos Hollow for almost a full minute after the tank went down and the BLM second in hate to him got ripped open like wet tissue.

This is one reason I got a crystal ball. When I comm DPS, I like being able to see who deserves it.

Last night, I tried to cram in a Frontline Roulette before maintenance. Out of the gate, we are solid #2, on Adders. Maelstrom is winning, Flames third. I call to fight Maelstrom, since they're winning. Somebody says "That's backwards. Fight third place so we don't give #1 points." Apparently, this argument made sense to everyone else, because we did exactly that and Maelstrom had the easiest win in the history of Shatter.

'Nother story!

Just got out of a Syrcus Tower run. For the first two bosses, this WAR from another party stayed in Defiance the whole time, stood in front, like they were trying to MT, even though I was pulling after an uncomfortably long standing around period. So, I asked if they would like to MT the rest. They said "Sure". Then, I ripped hate off of them in Sword Oath on the last two bosses. I had to slow down my GCD's to avoid doing it repeatedly. It's not like they were new, either. They were 60 with great gear. But, apparently the idea of MT and OT was just never properly explained to them? I don't know anymore.

It makes me sad when sprouts get a bad rap, so I wanted to share a happy story :)

Did leveling roulette and ended up in Aurum Vale. Tank was a sprout.

I was getting a little frustrated at first because he was pulling every single thing there was to pull. Not all at once, but one pack at a time. No wipes though so I let it go.

The run went flawlessly. Tank issued ready check before bosses. No wipes. No glaring mistakes. Everyone did awesome.

Tank kept saying how the healer was the best.

Tank got my commendation because when sprouts do an awesome job they deserve to know that.

Did A10 normal with the bf for his book. Bf is MT, I'm healing in Nocturnal Stance with a WHM co-healer. This monk dies a couple of times (at least three, I lost track after) and says something along the lines of "I'm going to stay dead, I'm obviously no help and there are a lack of heals". I tell him to learn to dodge and he responds with "It's kind of hard when its AOE and there's nowhere for me to run + I just came back from a break + its easy for you to say when you're ranged". OT agrees that the bf that he placed the boss wrong but that's strange considering the fact that we've done this so many times and no one has complained before. Granted 3/4 DPS in the party were ranged DPS, the DK was dodging just fine so that really grinds my gears on how its obviously the healers fault. MNK didn't even get Prey marked once =3=

Some of the highest DPS I've ever ran with have been BLM, stuff died fast even when the other DPS is garbage. I've also had my share of garbage BLM too though. Even some bare minimum Ilvl BLM have had really impressive dps though. My main gripe with BLM is that even the good ones seem to die at least once an instance.

The only competition to BLM ive ran with thus far was a scholar and two summoners, all of whom were doing top notch dps and simply blowing things out of the water.

At top tier savage I'm sure it's different though.

I need to apologize to everyone in my Labyrinth of the Ancients run.

Bone Dragon was not a good start. Very few people knew the mechanic, and it started the salt real fast. We wiped on the Atomos when Alliances split (because letters are hard), and then it was pulled early and people got locked out. I, uh, did not handle it well. I became straight up toxic to everybody, and I was tilted so hard that I was playing like shit, too. I died to a meteor on Behemoth, and never got a rez (probably because I was an enormous jerk and playing like garbage, as the death would illustrate).

I haven't tilted like that since back when I played League of Legends. It was bad for everyone involved, and I am very sorry.

This made me tear up a little bit from the sheer force of the truth in it. Every time I land with a BLM in DF, I cringe a little bit because they inevitably suck.

Like that one time I landed in A12 normal. The other BLM's rotation, as Prime was pulled, was to stand around for a bit, then drop Ley Lines, then HARDCAST Fire III and I stopped paying attention after that because ugh.

More recently, I tanked a Stone Vigil for 2 BLMs... who never once used Raging Strikes during the entire run... didn't know their AoE rotation whatsoever... one of them kept casting Sleep for whatever stupid reason... kept hardcasting Fire III... transposing when they had enough MP for Blizzard III... oh yeah, and had no idea how to use Thunder or Thundercloud procs, sitting on them and letting the buff run out.

It's runs like these that make me so irrationally upset.

Gonna jump to defend here a little, since, imo, Stone Vigil is right about the point that BLM rotation and skill set change dramatically (assuming these particular BLMs weren't synced). They've only just gotten up to 3 stacks of UI/AF. I'm not entirely certain that the game mentions explicitly how you can switch between them with Blizz3/Fire3 at that point instead of using Transpose. Idunno when most players start picking up on their AoE rotations, but that was about when I started learning the effectiveness of Fire2.

But, it's harder to defend some of the other stuff. Hardcasting Fire3, well, sometimes less intuitive players just assume it's better than Fire1. Sometimes they can be educated, and sometimes they just won't grasp anything. The Sleep thing, ehhh, that is about when it becomes AoE, which can sound helpful, but obviously not when players are slipping into their actual AoE dps. And there's not really any excuse for the Thunder thing.

But anyway, point is, I would advocate for cutting BLMs a little slack in that dungeon, because that seems to coincide with a big turning point for their mechanics (at least that's how I felt at that stage). I even remember staying after the final boss to offer some pointers to another BLM going through the same thing right after I had learned my own new tricks, so, if they're receptive to it, it might be possible to point them in the right direction, so that they can really dig into how explosive the job can be.

Assuming they were unsynced, again. If these were synced down mages, disregard all of this concerning them, they're probably just lazy and never bothered to read a single tooltip.

One thing about BLM dying at least once a run - even the good ones, sometimes especially the good ones, will try to hold on to one... more... uninterrupted... cast before they start to stutter-step/run from an AoE, and sometimes they wait just a bit too late, and BOOM. :)

Queued up a mentor roulette tonight as heals and got an in-progress Weeping City at Ozma. Right away I knew there must have been issues because one of the alliances threatened to jump off en mass if someone pulled early. Everyone got there, fight started okay... And I immediately DC'd. No problems at all up until that run, then I just lagged the hell out. Had to completely restart and didn't make it back until the tail end of the Ozma fight, but the other healer kept it together and they got through pretty much entirely without me, so props to that person! Then we got to Calofisteri... and someone just charged in and pulled with half of the raid still outside. Everyone dies so we can wipe it and start again...

Except for one PLD and one MNK. Who proceed to attempt to duo the boss for as long as they can. Which, because her mechanics and damage are minimal at the beginning of the fight, was a long, long time. They agonizingly slowly chipped away at the boss, keeping everyone else in the raid waiting, until they finally, finally died to the unavoidable bijou damage. I can only imagine what their alliance's party chat was like... I really hope someone called them out on their trolling.

Anyway, they wiped, we restarted, damage was a million times faster, but I could see why the original healer left in the first place because almost every member of my alliance seemed to experience critical failure to dodge. At one point--not during the bijou phase!--the tank had six vulnerability stacks, people were getting sucked into the trap aoes left and right, half the party got hit by haircut aoes repeatedly... I tried hard to keep everyone alive but man, it was impossible.

Somehow walked away with four comms despite DCing and only actively being part of the alliance for one fight?? I was confused, but... /shrug, I guess.

Not only were both of them synced down from 50, it was seemingly their main job (nothing else at that level), and they both had the "returning player" icon. Neither of them even cast Thunder or Thunder II until I told them about it. One of them gave the excuse that "only have T3 on hotbar" (fucking WHY?), and when I asked why neither of them once used Raging Strikes, the only response I got was "still won anyway". Because that totally excuses being complete garbage at your job.

But this isn't even the worst I've seen out of BLMs. It simply boggles my mind how someone can possibly get to level 60, queue for Expert Roulette, and still not understand the first thing about Umbral Ice/Astral Fire mechanics, when it is the first thing the THM quests teach you.

Also, Fire/Blizzard II are skills available to you as low as level 18. You can perform the THM/BLM AoE rotation in Sastasha. There's no excuse for not knowing it at level 41.

I used to open with fire3, then fire2 on aoe's a few times until I swifted flare, convert, another flare and so on. And single target also, prepare for enochian/leylines and open with a fire3, leaving swiftcast either to squeeze another fire4 or a blizz4 when timers were tight. Was I supposed to swift fire3 always?

At level 54, BLM gets Sharpcast. Hit that, Fire, then use the Firestarter proc you get. I really really really do not understand just why so many BLMs seem to forget that Sharpcast is a skill that exists.

The problem with hardcasting Fire III is that it consumes almost twice as much MP as regular Fire, doesn't do nearly enough damage to make up the difference, and takes a full second longer to cast. There's also the fact that the Firestarter trait means that BLMs spamming Fire would get free Fire III casts that are not only free, but also cast instantly.

TL;DR: Hardcasting Fire III is bad and the only reason to do it is when your rotation is already so screwed up that hardcasting 1 more spell wouldn't hurt anyway.
