Well the problem from a raid standpoint is that means less gcds for damage spells like stone 4 and aero 3. Regen coupled with either a fairy or asylum meant that the whms could add damage. By gating the lilies behind cures, that means the main thing about the whm which is more dps than the other two healers which is to counter the fact that the other two 2 have more utility and the system of the lilies doesn't take advantage of that, as we have seen.

Heck I wouldn't be surprised if they tested it with the old build and realize how lacking it was but given how late in development they are, that this is just a band-aid but we need to see the patch notes on the 15th and the content before we make any final assumptions.

Right now everything is being analyzed on how WHM currently plays, but it looks as though healers are getting huge changes to how SE wants us to play in SB. They may want ALL healers to stop DPSing as much. Not that the concerns aren't entirely valid (some unique utility would still be nice), but cases like this do seem to point that how we play now is going to be different come the expansion.

I think it's less to do with "WHMs are supposed to heal with Regen" and more "WHMs get something else tied to Cure (except Freecure, free heals are the bomb) that is neither efficient, effective or exciting". Personally, as a WHM main, if anything gets tied to my Regens, it's a VERY low proc rate for lillies. Outside of that, Regens are fine as is, IMHO. What we need is better and reasonable incentive to use what we're getting and some basic utility outside of healing everything.

If healer s are meant to be sole healers, and nothing else, then they need to take away all DPS abilities....
Since that's not happening, SQEX needs to adapt to their players, not the players adapting to what SQEX is trying to force on them.

They can't just take away all DPS abilities. How are healers supposed to level through content, do dailies, etc then? Not everyone is going to want to level a DPS or, even more, bother getting decent gear for one. Healers will always have to have SOME DPS abilities. The question is whether or not those abilities are worth using in trials or raids.

To sum up my thoughts for what WHMs could get for utility:

Dispel for ally/party debuff removal or enemy buff removal AND interacts with the Lily system (page 190 for those interested on my idea of it)
Astra for ally debuff prevention. This could also interact with the Lily system to increase duration/enhance its effects, if it needs to interact with it at all.
Shellskin for increased magical resistances and magic damage mitigation for as long as Shellskin holds. Have it cast and function like SCHs Succor, but do not let it heal or reduce Physical damage.
Also, getting Shroud of Saints and Divine Seal back would be nice, the rest I could live with/without.

Good ideas? Terrible ideas? How does this sound to you guys/gals?

EDIT: Forgot the Reflect idea, where it would be cast on an ally and have it act much like what Agrippa the Mighty and Hellsclaw do with their "Counter Measures" ability. Though, I'm unsure if it'd be OP to reflect back ALL forms of damage...

I really like all three of those ideas. The only other ideas I like in the way of "utility" are more combined healing and damage abilities like Assize.

My only problem with Dispel being a "better esuna" is that people may only bring WHM to savage content depending on if it can cheese mechanics. While it WOULD make WHM see use in Savage content, it'd be for the wrong reasons.

I am a fan of a cheaper Raise, Auto-raise, or maybe even lowering the stat penalty of Weakness/Near Death (Not all 3 at once, mind you).

Reflect as a rampart-like skill you put on others sounds good too.

Right now I'm content that the dev team has continued to work on this system since the media release. I think we've all made our feelings and opinions extremely clear, and while the degree and expression of dissatisfaction varies across the board, there are enough warning signs out there that the devs can't possibly have failed to realize that there is room for further improvement.

Now we sit back and wait to see what they've come up with.

It was a pleasant surprise to hear of Yoshi-san's comments regarding White Mage. Cure II having a 100% chance to proc a lily is interesting as is the comment that the job is still under development. Square Enix is listening to our concerns. Being that it's the 5th, I hope we get some more information on what has changed since the last build in April.
