TESO the biggest rival for ARR?

they have to make a deal with M$ and there deal always end up bad for the company. I bet they want update before anyone Xbox being on there own worlds run by M$ servers and want packs release before any other system. More or less the same deal they told SE oh and pay for xbox live to be allow to log in to TESO.

Or TESO came to a agreement and just waiting for the new xbox to be release.

I think a lot of you are forgetting that the other next-gen consoles are coming out in a years time. Who knows, but TESO could release on those systems as well as being on PC. Something FFXIV: ARR is lacking from the get-go is that the game is only on PS3 and PC, not the X360. So TESO could release next year on the other 2 new consoles. Who knows.

well they could do this also with FFXIV: ARR . thats what they did with FFXI also. it was just first released on PS2 afterwards on XboX which used the pc graphics.

i dont see there any problem. by the way. it just isnt going to be released on xbox360 because the players had to pay for xbox live extra. as for FFXI they didnt. which SE did not want to.

Bethesda programming problems shouldnt be applied to Zenimax Online (who are employing quite a few veteran MMO workers).

If TESO want to be on xbox then they have to pay the price of letting the xbox get all the update before anyone. If they made a deal with m$ then it be on there new system. Look at FFXIV it was going to be on 360 but sadly M$ want xbox to be on there own world away from PS3 users and they want much more.

If TESO made a deal with M$ then i don';t see why not but making any deal with them is hard.

I don't know, I think the Elder Scroll serie would do better with a good co-op.
I am following TESO, but I have my doubts if they can meet the expectation.

We will see, I doubt I would leave ARR for TESO, I don't know, I fell in love with ARR, how long that love last I don't know, for me it depends mostly on the community.

I want to feel at home, only 2 MMORPGs I played have gotten me that feeling, the first was UO en the second was FFXI.
I think ARR could be my 3th home.

Ok, I fully admit my opinion may be an apples and oranges kind of opinion, but I don't think TESO's mega server architecture will be as great as it sounds. You'll have several thousand people all merging between servers in real time during peak times, correct? That sounds like GW2's overflow system, and I can already see the problem with that. It'd be insanely hard to find friends in the peak times (At least from my experience with GW2).

My next worry for TESO is how will the mega server handle a potential battle on the scale of say, this?

Yes, apple and oranges again, but I do worry. What makes this kind of battle work is that EVE is mostly empty space, its not hard to render, and its rather easy for this kind of thing to work in the server architecture, its encouraged by the developers and it is actively added to the expanding lore of the game. This battle only just happened a couple days ago and it was over one pilot pressing the wrong button, warping into enemy space and calling for help, ending up in the 2nd largest fleet battle in the history of the game (around 3000 players fighting it out). My main worry with regards to this for TESO is how will the game handle the transfer of data between the player and the server when it has to handle where the player is standing, what they are doing and what position others are, what they are doing, and how they will be split up in the mega server seemlessly, not only that, but I worry whether or not the developers will encourage this kind of behaviour. I just don't think their megaserver will handle a 3000 player battle over a guy calling for help because he made a mistake. I also worry about the system specs for TESO.

Don't get me wrong though, as much as I worry, I kind of want to see TESO do well. I just don't want to be part of the experiment. I've played a fair amount of MMOs, and I just don't see how this one can work when there is this much competition in the market to have another fantasy rpg MMO enter. Everyone seems to be all excited now, but I'm damn sure that by release, it'd lose the hype and end up like SWTOR unless it does something REALLY unique and game changing for the MMO market.

The Elder Scrolls name cannot sell it alone (like with what we had seen when FFXIV first launched, same with SWTOR), and the lore cannot sell it either (SWTOR again), everything is a forgone conclusion, as much as they go, "You are the hero", I just cannot believe that. I find that tagline more believable with pen and paper rpgs, fighting fantasy gamebooks and EVE Online to an extent than with this TESO. In the short term, yes, TESO will look to be a success, but we all know that an MMO's true success is in its longevity.

I'll just stick with FFXI, XIV, GW2 on the odd occasion, EVE Online (Which I will soon be playing a 21 day trial of) and Shadowrun Online (when that one is out).

No I think you have expressed good reasons to be cautious. In the last 6 years or 7 years we have seen so many MMOs come out and many of them not do as expected, some just shut down. The fantasy element is important too, I am certainly tired of fantasy MMOs. FFXIV is a different kind of fantasy to me, but western fantasies are getting old. That's why I play the Secret World, or part of why, it's refreshing to be in a modern setting.

I would love a GOOD sci fi MMO to come out one of these days too.

I can't say I'm convinced from 30 seconds of something planned specifically to sell the idea. From what I took from that video, Cyrodill will be the only massive scale PvP area in the game. Much like how GW2 has its own specifically designed area for large scale PvP. If we go back to EVE for a second, last year a player driven event called "Burn Jita" occured, where players attacked areas which were guarded by CONCORD. A high security region of space where PvP is not advised, but you can still do it. PvP can happen potentially anywhere and everywhere.

As for resources, I doubt the average rig will be able to participate in these large scale PvP seiges. The amount of stuff needed to load in the game for these kinds of events will probably bring an average rig to its knees. The 30 seconds of video showed people using similar armor sets to each other, I doubt other players will be wearing similar to other players or using the same weapon sets as each other. The devs for TESO promised stuff like rouge who can heal, mages who can weild huge swords etc. Trying to put huge PvP in line with what players have equiped (armor, weapons, spells) probably won't be as great as it sounds on paper. GW2 works because its not that resource intsensive and they have a specific server dedicated to large scale PvP. EVE works because its mostly empty space, just the ships and particle effects need rendering.

As for FFXIV's PvP, we know of the colliseum right now, but we haven't seen anything from it just yet, and we haven't seen what the dev team has planned for large scale PvP yet, especially as Yoshi-P is a huge DAoC fan. They'd no doubt want to make sure it works first before showing it off rather than tease with a 30 second demo of footage that looks to be planned gameplay rather than a spontateous event.

Anyway I think I may have started rambling and not making sense (curse this brain). I hope I can be proven wrong and this kind of large scale PvP that the devs of TESO have talked about can be done, and I really hope people won't be disappointed by TESO.
