There is nothing wrong with not wanting to party, i sometimes, after spending 4-5hrs static i want some time off to do my own things, now thats my thing. There are players who rather not deal with inexperienced players, players wanting to do things that would be a real time sink, an example would be i shout for specific leve, like "Dunesfolk, Eggs, and Ranine ONLY", now random people might join me, do these specific ones i mention and would want to do the other 5 random ones they picked up , which i may not have time for and dont want to deal with.

Some players choose to ignore all these together and enjoy game in their leisure. Soloers can play however they want as long as they don't affect the party play like petition to make the contents easier, - which is not in this case.

If I choose not to participate in a game mechanic that I find boring and tedious (when I play the game to have fun) that makes me a snob? By what stretch of the imagination?

For you it is, sure. For me it is not fun, it is not enjoyable. Why would I play a game the way you want me to, which is not fun for me at all, when I have the option of playing it how I enjoy it? Does that even make sense?

Nope. Not once did I ever suggest that SE do anything, or that the game be changed in any fashion. I made the remark, many times, that scaled content (which FFXIV has plenty of) provides an even ground for soloists and groupists alike and a few times discussed the merits of scalability. Never once did I ask, request or imply that FFXIV needed any of this, or should be changed.

This sums it up. People are different. To me it really is as simple as that. I thought we in 2011, in a MMORPG that seems to have a more mature and dare I say intelligent crowd than the other popular MMORPG's, would be more accepting to natural differences in human behaviour.

According to some people in this thread, people who sit at home, alone, in front of their PC 8 hours straight grouping up with other people online are suddenly more social than people who play the same game a couple of hours solo before doing something else in real life? That is a very odd thing to assume, in my oppinion.
I know that is painting the picture very white/black, but that was the vibe I got after reading all of these 20 pages in this thread.

Discussion in this thread was fairly intelligent for a time being, at least id like to believe; now it does feel as though people are jumping to conclusions and their short minded assumptions of other peoples life styles/gaming habits.

It's been a bit of a rollercoaster. I've been following it because of those moments of really good discussion from varying viewpoints. Then there's the valleys where it became less open-minded arguing. Very entertaining thread nonetheless.

oi you guys are misreading me and what I'm doing I was sharing my opinion while also point out to the OP that they SEEM OR CAN BE SEEN AS RUDE. I know tons of people who have infact complained that they tried forming groups and end up only finding soloi'ers who do go "no i do not party" When your trying to start a party and 10 replies are like that it can get very frustrating. Which Is what I was simply trying to state. And also solo'ers can effect the community of mmo negatively as they are one less person who are willing to join groups. The more soloers less amount of groups can happem. This effects group based mmo Like ffxiv. And it a reason ffxi had grouping issues and why they made the game "easier".
A party to level or do content should not take 6 hours to form because the only people free are the soloist who are not interested.

I was told something in ffxi " mmorpg are community games, how you play CAN effect others" I'm all for options unless it effects people negatively.

I'm not trying to be rude only showing them and others a different perspective. I do not care if anyone solos mmo, just do not always refuse to do stuff with others. It effects ppl when you do that :)

Yeah, you are right. As often in debates likes this, it doesn't take more than a small handfull of people to distort the thread by over emphasizing their viewpoint while intentionally not listening to others. I'm not saying anybody is wrong (that would be contradicting of me), but I'm saying I don't understand how one can expect to convince others of ones viewpoint, while only attacking and not listening to the other person(s) views.

If FFXIV is to grow and be a big time player in the MMORPG business (that is what "we" want, isn't it?) then there must surely be a place in the game for all different playstyles.

Also to the OP, what anti solo threads are you talking about? so far this is the only thread to be about soloing.

@ someone who posted about sitting infront of the pc for 8 hours in a party is more social then a soloer who plays casually because of life
OP stated he has time to party if he wanted to, but adimitedly refuses to.
Which can and infact did tick a few ppl off.
