Well I'd definitely pass if my gear was better.. I thought people were mad about Greeding items for like, your secondary job you play all the time but just don't currently happen to be on. ._.

A limit on the amount of times you can 'need' would solve most problems. Did SE ever give a reason for not implementing this?
But are you asking? I am not saying I disagree about being considerate. But unless you tell me you need something, I probably only know if I do/don't. At that point it is up to communication. So don't assume the other person is being selfish, if you didn't actually communicate with them up front "hey, I am hoping to get some better gear here". If you don't do that, you are just setting yourself up for frustration.
Personally I have never come across someone who refused to pass when asked by someone who needed the gear more. Most people are really very nice about it all.
I see the OP's point very clearly.
I've tried to run Cutter's Cry a few times to collect the jewelry (it's the best you can get pretty much easily until you get the Tomes) and I queue as a Healer/Scholar because I know it's more desired, I'm good at it, and I like to heal. However, my FC is loaded with healers and we need good DPS. When I first got there there was a BLM (and I wasn't even 50 yet mind you) in his BLM gear and I checked out his gear, he was well geared and with better items. I asked if if I could win the Earrings and Choker if they dropped, the other DPS and tank said, sure... the BLM was silent.
WELL the choker dropped, who needed on it? But had a Blue Choker? If only I coulda blacklisted him, I did let him die a few times though *chuckles*.
I was rolling archer yesterday and there was another archer too. Right at the start he says "Dibs on all the archer loot", he didn't seem too happy when I replied with "I'll Need on what I need, if you don't like it run the dungeon with friends who don't need archer based gear."
I agree to an extent, Need is there for if you need something, but at the end of the day it's down to RNG who gets the loot and you can always just re-run the dungeon until you get what you want.
Sadly by the looks of most of these responses Common Courtesy is lost with our new world, sadly this whole selfish "It's me before my team" seem's to be becoming a trend.
Unrealistic expectations. Everyone plays the game for different reasons, and has different agenda's within all of their characters classes. I worry about what I can control within the environment we were given. I don't get angry when I run a dungeon 10 times and out of that 10 times only one time does the DoM item I am looking for drop. Nor do I get angry when its typical that there just so happens to be 3 DoM's in the group who need it. It is the luck of the draw. It's no one's place to tell the other what they can and can't need. If the game deems the class is good to need, then it is up to that class whether or not they want to need.
I am currently leveling my main DoM class, and my crafting/gathering classes. Soon I will be working on my Scholar, and I will need items. I will run into people who will get angry at me for needing on items that will come in handy for me in the future. Yes I will think of myself first, and then think of others. Just because a person is considering their situation first does not mean that they are being selfish. We play this game for ourselves and put just as much effort into the dungeon as everyone. It is about a roll. Just as much as it is random as to what pops up in the coffer.
Had a WHM abandon Aurum Vale yesterday after the 2nd mini boss because he was pissed that I needed and rolled higher an Aetherial Mage hat for my future SCH. In his eyes I didn't need it because I have 4 of my BLM set items. Ignoring the fact that we are playing a game where one character can be every single class. You can't please everyone. Just try to have a good time and be positive. There are many factors to gain from the experience of running a dungeon. If me not getting the loot item I need (one aspect of many) really effects the entire dungeon/gaming experience, then I am playing the wrong game.
It's, especially with PUG system mechanics and other anti-social structures. Not only that, but they mirror into real life with cell phones and anonymity online. Life becomes a temporary service best customized to complain until you get what you want, you can pick and choose between what interests you and doesn't. In the end, games are designed to cater to that greed thing, which in turn satisfies the greed of a company. So it's only inevitable that such habits emerge.
i dont understand why mmo devs even bother to let random groups of ppl lot on items anymore
all everyone does while in a group of RANDOM STRANGERS WHOM DID NOT AGREE ON ANY LOOT RULES THAT THE OP OF THIS THREAD WANTS TO USE BEFORE THEY JOINED THE GROUP is argue about whom should or should not lot
(even when its clear that the GAME MECHANICS themselves are not set up for the OP OF THIS THREAD to have any say in what individual players may roll need on or not WHILE IN A RANDOM DUTY FINDER GROUP)
mmo devs need to just give out personal loot to players when they are in groups of random players and leave the lotting on loot to the pre-made groups
imo, if the GAME does NOT give YOU the ability to control what I roll need on or not, then sorry, YOU dont get ANY SAY in what i roll need on or not
just as i dont expect to have any say in what you roll need on or not when the game does not give me the ability to control what you roll need on or not
If dungeons was the only way to get gear, I would agree with you. However, there is massive crafting system out, go craft or buy your gear from craft. I will choose "need" on every single dungeon gear for that reason. Pro-tip: I will never ever use dungeon-gear for myself, I will always convert into seals, even if it happens to be better than my non-melded HQ versions.
I usually click pass for equips lower than my current gear
I made a similar thread about people rolling on gear they would never use, or to turn in for 100-150 company seals.
Unfortunately the overwhelming majority of this forum community are selfish and self centred.
I believe someone in my topic said something along the lines of "You are damn right I will roll on that just so you won't get it".
wow this thread took a while usually u get a thread like this on launch in a mmo.
And aldo i agree with the op if u have better gear you should not need
But seriously to the op don't ever expect a pug group to be decent.
Sure there are decent players out there but there are a lot of assholes as well in other words ''welcome to the Internet''.
The best advise i can give is find friends and or a fc to play with who are decent players and you never run in to that problem and when you run a pug expect assholes and trolls to join and if u meet decedent players and are on the same server befriend them thats how u make friends and eventually never have the need to use duty finder to find decedent players to play with.
As a side note i find the loot system used here a lot better then a lot of the games i have played.
I just need what i can use stat wise or if it looks cool for the vanity slots.
I won't roll need on an item I wont use or can't need the seals excuse is utter garbage as seals are very easily farmed, you sir are one of those that just think me me me and you're a pitiful in my eyes but I won't bother with this thread no more as people like you infuriate me.
It's called exaggerating. These dungeons are easy as hell compared to EVERY mmo I've ever played and I've never touched WoW so don't even try to bring that up.
It literally does not take long at all to complete an instance. Plus there's no cool down timer. Re run it until you get your drop, like how you have to do in real mmos.
Better say something when you enter the dungeon. Im gonna roll on everything. Ever since a dragoon rolled on toxtex that I needed for my brd even though i was on whm... At first I didn't care at all that I was loosing greed rolls. Thats Until the second piece dropped and he won. Then said "ah when ever I decide to level archer he will have some good gear. My archer only level 4". He felt like crap when I said my brd was 45, but by then it was too late. Thats when I decided that all my dungeon runs will be for loot. I wasnt mad or anything cause I should have said something in the beginning. Now I dont care though, so Im looting everything and will convert it or trade to the GC.
I know I cant spell.....
IF you see a Bard, SMN, or whatever class and you see that it's a GC weapon don't roll GREED on that class'weapon I mean COMEON!
Hmm so if I have a valid use for it I should pass so another can use it for there valid reason.... OP did you lose a roll and post this due to being butthurt About it?
Will this item be an upgrade? If yes then I will need on it.
Will this item be worse than what I have on? If yes then I will greed on it.
Those are the two simple rules I follow when loot drops in a dungeon.
If somebody says "Hey if <X> pops up can I have it?" or "If any SMN drops turn up, can I have them?" at the start of a run then 9.9/10 times I'll say yes, because it's just a nice thing to do. I'm not psychic though, so do speak up and don't leave it until a few minutes later when I've already rolled.
I've got no issue with people rolling on things they don't need though - everyone needs the gil/seals/materia.
Honestly you truly need to form a party from a LS or FC, ONLY. When you PUG or use the Q, you get cross-server players. They dont care about you and you probably dont care about them. As a crafter, I ask people to pass on vintage mats (blunt dag, dented celeta ect), but I also roll need on any pinks/greens. I turn them in for seals.
NOW when im with FC/LS I simply ask if an item is an upgrade to anyone else who can need it. If they say no, ill need on it.
It's a tough call on greens that can be sold for money. While logic would dictate that you would "Greed" on it if you wanted to sell it, folks in random dungeon groups usually aren't on the same page and would probably just Need it anyway even if it wasn't an upgrade for them.
This is an ongoing problem in MMOs, people needing on items for off class... when there are others players in their main class that need the item. I have seemed to solve this problem by bringing it up at the beginning of instance. Be polite and your party members will most likely understand.
Well, it depends with the type of gear, I would always roll need for Coliseum Gear in Darkhold even if already have it since it sells really well on the marketplace and I'm kinda poor. :(
As for other types of gear like the Battlemage drops on Brayflox, there's no need to roll need on those items if I already have them since you can't sell those and if you do you are just being mean to other ppl that want that gear.
It will also depend with who I'm running the dungeon, if someone in my FC/LS want an specific piece of gear I would pass the item if I have no use for it even if I can sell them.
Not getting the point of thjis thread, really. Sorry OP, but you're being as selfish as the people you are calling selfish, because in your eyes, your reason to have the item is more important than the other person's. It's the exact same reasoning they are needing on those items, because they believe their reason to have it is more important than yours. Ironic, isn't it?
Yes, converting gear into materia or seals is a perfect valid reason to grab gear you won't equip. Yes, greeding / needing gear for other classes is a valid reason because you can play the other classes.
I particularly don't need stuff that are not upgrades for me (and honestly I don't even think about other random DF party members, it's just that my armoury chest is already full as is and I have no use for seals right now), but going as far as calling someone else selfish just because he didn't pass an item? Naaaaaaah.
Also, if you really need the item, just ask for it on pt chat and the vast majority of people will actually pass on it unless we're talking about some super rare drop.
All I can say is that all the defensive posts in this thread have succeeded in achieving only one thing - to validate OP's declaration that you are selfish.
the lot rules for DF groups are: if you are playing the class the gear is for, you may roll NEED/GREED/PASS on it FOR ANY REASON YOU WANT TO and if you are NOT playing the class the gear is for, you may roll GREED/PASS on it FOR ANY REASON YOU WANT TO
anything else is your own MADE UP RULES, and to be able to use those, you must form/join a party with players who WANT TO USE YOUR MADE UP RULES
ppl who join a random DF group in order to use the random DF group lot rules ARE PLAYING BY THE RULES OF THE GAME - if you dont like that, stay outta random DF groups and go form your own groups and use your own made up lot rules
Normally I greed anything that isn't an upgrade for the class I'm playing.
However, I'm running friends repeatedly through Brayflox to gear them up and get used to it before they reach the harder tier of dungeons....best believe I'm needing it if I can get my hands on the Battlemage robes which have only dropped ONCE in almost 30 runs there. To hell with my competition. I expect the issue will become worse when Cosmetic costume changes come in...people will want to get their hands on those rare drops, especially since so few caster outfits look even remotely decent
Honestly the OP is the selfish one, hes asking people who won the lottery roll to skip on loot they rightfully won and then trying to call those people selfish... what a selfish jerk.
You do realize the simple principle of supply and demand right? The more supply dungeon provides, the lower the demand will be for crafted substitutes. If it was up to me, the dungeons would give zero gear; at least for now I am doing the next best thing, which is to transfer as many loot possible into seals to get exp bonus for my mining/botany/fisher classes.
If I had the option to "sacrifice" all my drops in such way that all my drops went to the party instead of me, in exchange for making all equip drops for whole party being turned to seals for them, I would do so. Unfortunely, I do not have that option.
They need to add another simple check to their Need/Greed system:
Is the item in question higher ilvl than the item you are currently wearing?
Yes = Need.
No = Greed.
Problem solved.
It's very tricky.. I used to pass all items because I thought newer people needed them, then I went to town and saw people using all those items I pass to turn into materia when I wouldn't have minded them for my archanist. After that I started needing on a few items but not materia/gc seal ones. I joined Brayflox for main story line and was immediately questioned on why I was doing brayflox and if I was gonna take the gear from them. Personally yes, I would love the gear for my arc but just because I came into a duty with leveled down gear as tank doesn't mean I don't have a right to gear as well. I will obviously pass to you if your not capped and needing it for your levels but just because im tanking (and 50) doesn't mean I wouldn't like a battlemage robe for the only job I have to level yet.
Tldr: Just because someone comes as a certain job doesn't mean they couldn't use it on another job so don't assume its being greedy please.
Simple solution is to go in as the job you want gear for so you can need it.
With a Vanity system being introduced I am collecting gear for that purpose alone. Let alone that I can turn gear in for GC Seals.
If you mention before the run starts "Hey if you don't need X Class Gear I would appreciate if I could grab it for my other job" I have no problem in letting you grab stuff, you just have to say something. I had someone get really pissed the other day when I won a ACN Book on a greed and they said "I could have used that on my other job". Look, I don't keep track of what other classes you are playing and what gear you have or want esp. in the Duty Finder.
The simple solution is to speak up before the run starts, if no one says anything I just press Greed and run to the next spot and I do this quick like as I am the tank and should be ready for the next pull. Most people I have run across in the Duty Finder have been pretty cool, I have even see 2 identical classes ask each other do you need X item do you mind if I Need it and the other pass to them.
Communication is key and communication with your group more so than the forums / community
Lovely, people go full rage mode if someone shows up to a high level fight in mid level gear. Yet in this thread, people are admitting that their 'need' for gil or seals is higher than the need of someone who will actually wear the gear.
Mind boggling.
