I bet the OP is already fully geared and doesnt want people to catch up to him :)

It's not like farming Tomes of Philo is particularly hard. I have a regular job, do things besides game, and I have ~1.5k. Just by doing DF runs...
Are people just hopped up on stimulants all the time or something? Can we calm down a bit? It's not like the Tomes are going to be gone anytime soon.
Please go find a hole some where and just well shut up, i really enjoy castrum, and really enjoy my 100 tombstone reward at end for putting up with crappy pugs and having to work my butt of healing there stupid asses.
I totally disagree with the OP.
I speed ran Castrum 16 times today with 3-6 people from my FC, because we wanted to farm tomes. We averaged 35 to 40 minutes per run. Not once did I force anyone to skip cutscenes.
On the contrary, every time it was someone's first (it happened 2 or 3 times), I explicitly welcomed them to take their time to watch cutscenes; took the time to explain strategies in detail (including speed tricks, and what advantage they presented compared to the "basic" way); and even offered my PU co-tank the choice to either MT, or deal with adds, on every single boss. I made sure they were involved in every single step, and aware of what we were doing. At most, that would delay a run by 10 minutes, which really isn't a big deal. There is more to life and my enjoyment of a game than 10 minutes. Eventually, it always went smoothly, easily, and everyone was happy. Everyone got exactly what they wanted.
These first-timers took the time to thank us at the end. Some other speed runners would congratulate us for handling the dungeon pretty well. We even made a few friends who we later on invited in our LinkShell. Why, after all these efforts and good will, should our runs be nerfed? Because some others behave badly? Because some people are <insert d-word>, we should all be punished? Isn't it more sensible to sanction these obnoxious people, precisely, for what they do (or don't do), and not the content of the game itself or its population at large?
Everyone needs to grow up and take responsibility. Be the change you wish to see. This is how a community gets "better".
You can literally watch every CS in the inn. DUTY cutscenes, and MISSION cutscenes. They have two diff drop down menu bits. Only difference is likesay Praet, you won't see the rest of your group as you'd be there alone in your inn in the scene. Which case, who cares, it's just about you not your ragtag group of randoms.
Yea...
But sometimes people want to actually play the game and have an experience instead of farm farm farm farm farm farm farm farm farm... ETC...
What are we playing? A MMORPG. What does that stand for? Massive Multiplayer Online Real Pro Grinding. Ok, I think I understand why people like speed runs so much now.
If more people doing speed runs were like this, this would be a total non-issue. As when I did CM for the first time, it was a total mess due to the speed runners not willing to take a moment to explain anything, and add on top of that there was a lot I could not participate in, even though I go through my cut scenes fast. So outside of the story which I was there for, the whole place is completely forgettable to me.
Here's a better idea:
Keep the Tomestone rewards the same, but lock everyone into that little circle barrier like when you start a dungeon until everyone has finished the cutscenes.
I really dont see people whining about others watching the CS's. They are usally just left behind to catch up whenever. The thing is now with the majority of people in DL gear you really dont need the extra tank or the extra heals or dps. The only time i see people blowing up is when someone doesnt follow and agros a bunch of mobs that didnt need to be.
Really though if they cut the tokens down there would be no reason to run the story instances and then new people would have issues getting groups.
Yeah, we should totally have only 1 viable dungeon to run at end game for both tomes because people are jerks and won't let you watch a CS. Let the entire playerbase suffer because of people being jerks for a story mission you do one single time.
Let them whine guys.
remember, by queueing in duty finder, people should expect some people to watch cutscenes. If they wanted a fast run they shouldve make a party among themselves instead of queueing.
So if you use df to queue for cm you have every right to watch cutscenes regardless of what others say.
I don't think they should nerf it, but I feel your pain OP. I tried to run it today for the first time, by the time I got out the first CS my whole party was no where to be found. I checked the map and got put in another CS, I skipped it, and saw that I had 15 seconds to get to the boss lol... Needless to say I didn't make it to the arena in time so I just left...
I'm sure what happened to me is on one end of an extreme but it did leave a bad taste in my mouth. Not really sure what should be done about it, but I look forward to seeing what SE does if anything about it.
I do think its a pretty crappy end game dungeon. It does not drop gear, full of cut scenes and drops like 1 gill for repairs
You can watch those cut scenes in your inn. I skipped them and I never watched them its not that big of a deal.
I can't even take this thread seriously.
I am going to believe this is a joke and the OP is trying to be funny.
Yes, that has to be it.
No it doesn't, if you use duty finder for speed runs, you do not get to complain when they watch cs.
Speed runners should be the ones to form a party, there will always be more people on your own server farming it, than actually wanting to run it.
Not all cs are watchable via the inn room. Please just stop with that.
I'd laugh in your face if it was my first time running it, and that's what you demanded I do.
OT: Just watch 'em OP, there is literally nothing anyone can do to stop you, and there's no acceptable reason that they should try. That said, it does not need to be nerfed, AK is overcrowded enough.
Umm... no.
You do realize that in your inn room you have this nifty book sitting there that's titled, "Unending Journey" right? You can click this book and watch any cutscene you've experienced, whether you skipped it the first time or not.
And even then, the people who are skipping cutscenes to farm CM are generally better geared or over geared and know what they're doing. I queue with a healer friend of mine (I play PLD tank), and the two of us are easily able to hold a group of mobs while the rest of the party catches up, even if they don't skip the cutscenes.
Yes, they are. Some are more difficult to find than others, since they're listed under different categories (main quest, trial, etc), but all cutscenes for dungeons are in the book. In particular, even though it's not a trial, some of the CM cutscenes are in the Trial section of the book.
So how are you going to get your darklight gear? AK runs? Most of the time people say rush and skip the all CS's not like Castrum is hard. Most Groups can carry half the party anyways. Also I don't see why you are so worried about it do your one run and don't go back? I do about 10 castrum runs a day and I haven't seen anyone tell anybody to skip CS's. While your at it why don't you ask them to nerf AK and only give us 20 myth.
EDIT You do know that no one is stopping anyone from watching any CS's right?????? If it's your 1st time watch them if your a tank or healer then the party will have to wait for you but if you are a DD you will probably get left. Also If you area a tank or whm castrum can be done with 1 tank and 1 whm.
Tbh. If you want to watch a cutscene then dont join a group who wants to fast run it.
If you queue and got into a group who doesnt want cutscene watchers then its their fault for using df
While we're at it, SE needs to add Stones - or something, anything - to Westwind. I was lucky enough to do the battle during the initial rush, but I imagine the wait times for it now are pretty horrible and will only become worse in the future.
I wouldn't quite say they should add too many, since you could spam farm that with an overgeared group pretty quickly, much easier and faster than Ifrit, but maybe 10 or 15.
Please don't castrate my castrum :(
Speed runners should be running with static groups on their server. I made an LS just for this, works well and never piss off people trying to watch cut scenes. They need to fix all the dungeons so that fights cannot commence during cutscnes. It works that way zoning in, you can't leave the circle, they need to put that other places too.
FFXIV had the shitties community I've ever seen in any MMO. So, WB FF community!
OP, why would you bring this to the forums? Just watch your damn cut scenes and let the rushers rush without you. They can't kick you so whining on the forums about a non-existing problem is pointless.
Agreed BUT!!!
This needs to come with better resources for those tomes like say... hard mode of previous dungeons which reward tomes.
I don't get people who watch cutscenes in dungeons, if its the story cutscene I get that, but not regular dungeon cutscenes. The dungeon cutscenes are basically looking at the dungeon from the top for like 10 seconds, do the dungeons and BAM, you see the dungeon.
All the cut scenes are in the inn, they are under different tabs, they are not all under duty or w/e it is, or so I'm told. Personally I just skipped them all and haven't watched them. I cared for the first 20 levels or so, then lost interest.
Im fine with this IF WE GET ANOTHER DUNGEON OR SOMETHING ELSE THAT TAKES THE SAME TIME TO FARM 100 TOMBS FROM CM.
In other words After you complete CM your first time, another similar dungeon with NO cutscenes that yields the same rewards is available.
Tired to speak against the certain lie that speak against a certain lie, but all cutscenes are available in the Inn. It's under the duty category, I have personally watched all of CM cutscenes in there.
However, it's not the same experience as watching it in the dungeon. I feel that first time players should just be free to watch the cutscene without any problems.
...
Also. CM's 100 tomes for completing it is perfectly fine.
Disagree with OP, until SE gives better alternatives. An alternative is also not to make a single philosophy Amdapor that also has 2+ hour queue times.
These are the current methods to obtain tomes:
- Meridianum (100), completion takes about 30-40 mins in a DF party
- Praetorium (100), slower than CM
- Ifrit HM (10), each run takes about 7-10 minutes, slower than CM
- Garuda HM (I can't remember, 15 prolly), each battle takes ~15 minutes, slower than CM
- Titan HM (Never fought, I guess 20), just no
- Amdapor Keep (80 iirc), slower than CM. This also gives 40 myth tomes, but after you have capped them, this dungeon is worthless. This dungeon also has ridiculously long queue times.
Sorry to say, OP, but at the moment, there are no better alternatives to CM.
THey are not all under "Main story Quest" in the Inn. Look under the "dungeons CM and Prad." You will find them all there.
Personally I thought the story for a Final Fantasy game was awful. I felt no connection to any of the characters like I have in previous games, Half the names I could not remember they were so ridiculous and contrived, and the plot was just all over the place with "TOO MANY ANTAGONISTS" to keep track of everyones motives and motivations.
THe general idea of the Primals was a cool idea and they have some really cool fantasy designs and settings and the gameplay is amazing. Thats what I love.
SE does this because he knows without people queuing up for CM, you first timer will have a hard time finding a group to complete it. And by NOT completing it, you will not progress to end game.
It really does work both ways, speed runner (a.k.a tome farmer) helps first timer in this dungeon. In-turn they get to farm for their Darklight set. First timer then become the farmer themselves. Cycle continues.
Advise: queue for all language, if you get into a JAP group, they are courteous enough to wait for you and guide you the direction to next area.
wow quoted 3 times, got it after the first one. :P
ignore them?
