When you have some levels in the harvesting class you start finding nodes with Yield +1. For Miner there is a wind node with this by the Sylph village in East Shroud. I gather Wind Shards and Crystals there, its a pretty significant boost. I am sure nodes can be found with this bonus in other places if people were to look for them.
My issues so far:
1) Culinary, Whaaaaaatttthef- At least most of the other professions are making something that they're going to use and/or sell; something that lasts, something that can be soulbound and converted into materia. Culinarians are making a PIE that gets CONSUMED and lasts THIRTY MINUTES and goes away if you DIE. Culinary recipes either need to have their crystal requirements reduced (see #2 for an AWESOME way) or have their output increased by about 500%. If I spend 6 crystals on something, and its consumable, I better be making 6 of them. :P
2) Components. Components. Components. Making distilled water uses a shard? Butter? SALT?? WHY? I need magic to create butter? Really? What a sad state of affairs. If the recipe is to make a component thats solely used for something else (see: Flour, Gelatin, Pie Crusts, etc.) it shouldn't use a shard. Save the shard consumption for the actual final product, or we're getting taxed twice.
Also see Armorer for this. Ores-> Ingots -> Plates/rivits/rings -> Final products, not to mention some recipes need other finished products to do as well. Too bad the Ice and Earth shard yield abilities are from botany and not mining. Oh so sick of iron ore, need tons of it as use it for both the iron and steel phases of leveling which is 10-30 that I know of. Need 3 ore per iron ingot, and cant remember if it was 2 or 3 per steel, which just showed up in my crafting logs, and haven't checked recently other to know what to mine, waiting on hitting that +yield trait before go back and mine more. On top of a couple ice and earth shards per synth, that is going to be a lot of gathering.
1000 in 45 minutes? Could you tell me how you doing this? Much like the OP, for 1000 shards it takes me about 2-3 hours to gather depending on the location and I'm only level 24MIN/23BTN. Then it takes me about 3-4 hours to burn through them depending on which craft I'm using.
If they lower the stuff needed to craft, then by gods, lower the required number of gathers required to level gathering..I feel so excited I need to run to 160+ nodes for 1 level. Not that any lower level gatherable is worth anything decent anyways. So if you lower the required number of items...well hello 1gil prices...
Or change gathering GP so it's more like craft CP. Would actually use GP skills more, not just once every blue moon (time goes slower when gathering :P ).
Maybe the slow shard acquisition speed is somewaht intentional to create a market for them. At the current state of things you can either spend up to 2 hours getting crystals or just go to the AH and buy them, essentially paying other people that did spend the 2 hours. I don't see anything wrong with that..
I just had to farm shards for the first time yesterday. I still had thousands left from 1.0 back as long as a mob gave xp it dropped crystals too.
But ya, I agree with the OP. gathering them takes way to long, and I inevitably fall asleep due to the mindless spamming.
Um, I run between points using sprint for the short ones.. and hop on chocobo between the long ones. You are being ridiculous, if shards are taking so long to farm, take a break from the forums and go mine them, sell the things you make and buy shards with them.. For you to take that long mining shards, show proof that it takes that long, then I can figure out what you are doing wrong, or revise your statement, saying that it takes YOU that long instead of speaking for the community as a whole which you clearly do not represent.
See above.. right outside of uldah, you can also find the lower leve elemental matching the type you want.. they drop 3 at a time, and die in one spell, maybe two.
I can actually see the 1000 in about an hour provided you are high enough to get the extra yields, and have the abilities to increase shard yield of an element by 2 for the type you want. Which means going to have both miner and botanist at 20, and one of them 26+. You would optimize gear for Gathering points, and only use them on the extra yield nodes. Add in hitting only 3 of the four nodes, preferably the two that spawn closest to the extra yield node and should be able to farm your shards at a less tedious pace.
I like making potions and foodstuffs in games. In this game the shard requirements for CONSUMABLES is just silly. Why would a 30 minute or short duration buff cost almost as much as making a piece of armor or weapon. So everyone in this game are eating fine powdered crystals mixed in the food. :(
Um, you should have made a thread, this is an argument I can get behind and support. Although, when dealing with the smallest amount being one shard, the make-up for it should be in the result. You should require less ingredients or get multiple items out, although.. this already seems to be true with some of the ingredients. On the other hand.. it seems that a lot of the best equipment comes from places other than crafting, whereas having food simply makes you stronger than an equally equipped person. Two people with top-end gear, which probably didn't come from crafting, can be given a unique advantage over others through food. It actually seems to be the best craft for making that difference between being good and being great and it is applicable at every stage in the game. On the other hand, it drops when you die, you can't convert it into materia (though you can't seem to convert the best gear into materia either), and exp bonuses don't even matter at level 50 (Unless this actually helps you soulbond faster).
I think that shards are too rare for how many you need to level any craft. There needs to be more ways to farm them as effective as gathering, I personally think the speed which you gather them currently is fine, what isn't fine is the fact it's the ONLY effective way to gain them. Add cooking/alchemy recipes for shards again, let us break down crystals/clusters, let mobs drop them again, do anything. Shards are currently the BEST way to make gil as a 50 miner/botanist, and will continue to be forever.
Yeah, I've made 2 threads about this. Food, and to a lesser extent, potions, are not worth making when food lasts 30 minutes and costs as many shards as armor, while also fading on death, and requiring materials that are 1 time per day to make the best food. This makes no one ever using food, and the +50 stat pots for alchemy are extremely expensive to make as well for having a 5 minute cooldown, meaning you'll use 2-3 per fight in harder fights. They cost about 5k for 3 STR potions not counting shards, does ANYONE want to spend 5k gil on a single fight attempt? Food is just as bad if you use the later food, and even if you farm your own mats, the food shard cost ensures everyone is farming thousands of shards per day just to keep the food buff up for end game content, completely insane.
Thread about it: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...ading-on-death.
They should make all consumables craft ion stacks of 3 at least. The fact that food crafts 1 by 1 is quite.. annoying.
I am happy with the potions crafting in stacks of 3.
Simple math will prove that it takes longer than 45 minutes.
45 minutes = 2700 seconds
2700 seconds / 1000 shards = 1 shard per 2.7 seconds
In order to mine a shard every 2.7 seconds you would need 2 things:
1.) a speed hack to reduce the 3 second delay between taps
2.) a warp hack to reduce the travel time to zero
I think if the Gather Twelve Ward abilities were changed it may solve shard gathering issues
At the moment 400GP to increase yield by x2 is a pain
Therefore:
a) Change Ward cost from 400 to 100 GP
b) Make 100 GP Ward increase yield by x2
c) Allow Ward ability to be spammed so long as you have GP. So you could stack 4 of the Ward costing 400GP in total and have x8 multiplier yield. For example, one node at 4 attempts with x8 multiplier would grant 32 shards/crystals, or if on nodes that have a native +1 yield, you would be looking at 36 shards for that node.
I don't know if it was already said, but as a 23 Botanist, I've gotten three abilities that let me increase the crystal yield I get +2 for everytime I mine 'Melphina's Ward', 'Nophica's Ward', etc. for Wind, Earth, and Ice crystals. So potentially for basic trees/grasses, I can get 12 crystal shards per run, which is pretty decent I think.
I've been trying to level Botanist and Carpenter and keep them around the same...but Carpenter levels so much fasters, and I basically have to use my entire leve supply on Botanist, it's been hard.
The problem isn't crystals or clusters for that matter it's shards. You still only gather shards at the same rate as crystals but the consumption per synthesis on consumable items is outrageous. 12 shards per run every 6-7 node is nothing compared to the 1,100 I need to make one stack of food.
the amount and time it takes to farm shards and crystals are perfectly fine. stop being lazy or buy them off the market board.
Remember when you posted this thread:
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...iciency-Issues.
Then the lead dev, Yoshi, completely proved you wrong(as well as the entire playerbase, but the lead dev matters more) by lowering repair costs by 60%?
Yeah, you're a troll, and no one should ever listen to you.
Just as a test, I went and timed how long it took me to mine up 1000 ice shards. This was done as a lv 30 miner, on the level 30 rocky outcrops at Quarterstone with the ward from having 20 Botanist.
It took me just shy of 1h 15m to mine up 1000 ice shards, at a spot I was not familiar with when starting, some occasional lag and misclicks wasting time, no mount use, and some tv distractions too. So I likely could have done it faster, especially with better +GP gear on as well, currently only have +68. Next time I go mining for Ice shards, I could likely push it closer to the 1hr mark now that I know the spot, and by using a mount at times too.
If you don't believe the numbers, go and see how long it takes you to gather the shards of your choice off of the level 30 nodes with the appropriate ward ability as well.
So there really is not a problem with the rate at gathering shards at higher levels of mining/botany.
If you think that gathering crystals takes too long then buy them from the AH.
This is not a problem.
Why are you not utilizing leves? I got from 49 to 50 BSM in a couple hours. 33k exp per leve, and in some cases I could turn in multiple pieces for even more. Grinding out crafts is the old way to do it.
Crafting is very very fast already, it doesn't need to be faster. you should at least try to work for something occasionally. Everything should not be instant these days, an it amazes me people are complaining about something so simple an sso fast.
To be fair, the repair cost was a much more pressing issue than this is. The issue isn't that it actually takes too long to collect crystals either in my opinion, it's that gathering in general is exceedingly boring and tedious. They made gathering ridiculously easy to do, they practically throw materials at you.. to counter-balance this, they made it reeeeeeally boring to do, which I understand.. Personally though, I'd prefer it to be harder to do and entertaining, as opposed to easy and boring. But eh..
I do think the abilities that let you harvest multiple crystals at once are a bit too expensive though.. or rather that GP regenerates at an exceedingly slow rate. It makes no sense at all to me that GP is the slowest resource in the game to regain, especially since it's not even that important in gathering for much else.
As someone that does a nice bit of gathering, if GP came back faster I would be swimming in more materials than I could get rid after a longer session. As either the demand for the items are not there, or would flood a market and risk crashing some of the few markets still worth while. Have to be careful of not clogging my retainers as is due to trying to keep some markets worth while. And if the wards cost less, thanks to people already bot mining, that market would evaporate over night, and would not take long even without the bots.
Just buy the shards off the market, the rmt bots are taking care of the gathering. As a DoH you buy stuff off the market, synth it, put it back up for more. Or work with dedicated gatherers. Trying to bring the get all myself mentality from other mmos just hinders you greatly as a crafter.
500 wind shards in 35 mins how can it be slow.
2hrs for 1k shards sounds good to me actually , but that's my personal opinion
If u farm 1k shards in 2 hrs. You are doing it wrong.
