Final Fantasy VI.
Ever.
Always.
For all times.
I'll edit this post later on to word my thoughts on this masterpiece of art, which goes much, much beyond the realm of video games.
Final fantasy 4 follwed by 6 then the first one for nes
I really enjoyed twelve. I loved the open-ness of the world, and the monster hunts, and the sky pirates.
Final Fantasy VI/VII/VIII/IX/X/X-2 are the ones i liked the best, reminds .. gotta replay them again some day.
Final Fantasy VII has a special place cause it was the first one i played but IV is my favorite.
IV, VI, VIII, Tactics and XII were my favorites. I've been playing this saga since 1995 starting with Final Fantasy for the NES. I fell in love with this saga because it was totally different than other games. Then I became a RPGamer.
FFX
first FF game that i jumped into.
Final Fantasy VIII: Squall, and it was also the first one FF I had played.
FFVII. Great cast of characters, great story...I just really loved everything about it. The only imperfect thing about it for me was the lack of Triple Triad :D I still think the music is miles better than any of the following titles. IV comes second, X third, and VIII fourth. I still play it to this day.
i will go with the 6 as the best, followed by the tactics and the 12 (only sad we didn't get out hand on the international version in france)
So much love for IX! That was my first Final Fantasy. My brother had just got a PS2 (we went from the SNES to the N64, never had a PS) and I was looking for something to play on it. I had a vague memory of a Final Fantasy game my cousins had on the SNES and my best friend really liked VII, but other than that I had no idea what was going on with the series. The store had VIII and IX and I agonized over which one to get, finally settling for IX, simply because it was newer. I chose correctly. To this day it remains one of my all-time favorite games. I was a Taru BLM in FFXI because that was the closest to Vivi.
Second place would be a tossup between VI and XI. I love VI for obvious reasons, and I had a tremendous time in Vana'diel. There was plenty that ruffled my feathers in XI, but I liked the stories and having good friends to share them with made a day doing Promy runs worth it. I still remember my first visit to Lufaise Meadows - beautiful music there.
2004 release of final fantasy 11 rise of the zilart a lot challenging :)
I came into the game rather late and started with FFX. Auron was my favorite character by far. But I also liked the menagerie of characters in FFXII--the design of the games were simply stunning. I have snagged copy of a stradegy guide that had an attached art book and I find myself combing through the two for inspiration to this day. I have no idea where people get these unique ideas for costumes. Its such a innovative conglomeration of historical/sci-fi gear.
The FF series as a whole has the most visual stunning collection games I've ever played.
FFXI was my first MMO, and my introduction to online gaming in general. It holds a special place in gamer nostalgia for me too. It was a dysfunctional relationship, for sure, but there was plenty of memories that still stick fondly with me.
FF12. Loved the free roam & free fighting system.
Definitely tactics, loved the story, the characters, the design, no numbered title can even compare to that. XII was really promising up untill the very end, you can clearely feel that something went wrong with the development team and it's a shame cause it could have been a great masterpiece
have not beaten them all yet, but VI and VII are among the favorites.
have not beaten them all yet, but VI-IX and XII are among the favorites.
For me , FF9 was the best . I play for 1 -2 week to lvl up to 99 fighting Green Dragon above the cave.( which we all encounter at dungeon raid lvl 32). I always wish Kuja is our companion but no.. Vivi is cute !Freya is the reason I became DRG in FF14. Style is tremendous cool!!
i'm probably gonna be trolled and or flamed for this one but...
final fantasy mystic quest(snes) is my favorite final fantasy game
why?
few reason
first, the music in it was, and STILL is, the best music I've ever heard in any final fantasy game
second it was probably my first final fantasy game (the first game I actually played with 'final fantasy in the title was final fantasy adventure, but that don't count), so its got the nostalgia factor working for it
third I enjoyed it immensely
fourth because its my favorite, and nobody can tell me what I can and can't like! :P
Aside from XI because I played that game more than I'd care to admit, FFVI.
Best villain, best cast of characters and nostalgia. VIII is a close second.
It's a hard decision...
I can't solely just pick one...
Final Fantasy XI - My top favorite, Best story line out of all the FF's I've played. Even w/o the online aspect I would have gladly still played XI for the story line, it was just too good not to have done.
Final Fantasy IX - My 2nd top favorite, The story line is epic, but I sort of have a trend for Summoner oriented Story lines. I'm just so obsessed with Summoners. The characters were amazing, and my favorite villain of all time! Kuja! <3 Seriously best Villain ever! lol (obviously my opinion, I know it's either Sephiroth or Kefka for the rest of the world.) Eiko and Garnet are my Summoner girls! <3
Final Fantasy X - The story! Yuna! The Aeons! It was so wonderful! I must admit this one has such a special place in my heart. Every single part of this game I loved so much! I don't think I ever cried as hard at a video games story as I did when I played X.
Final Fantasy X-2 - This was my first Final Fantasy game ever! (activates shield) I don't feel like telling the entire story for a 4th time lol... just say I had a strict over protective child hood and wasn't really allowed into these kinds of games until I hit my teen years. I loved this one so much, even when at first I had NO clue WTF was going on... it was such a new world for me, story telling as you become part of a story, at it's best! I LOVED THE JOB SYSTEM! It was so much fun! Truly a treasure in my gaming collection.
Final Fantasy IV - Not for the reasons most have, but Rydia <3! It deals so much with yet another Summoner story, I loved it so much! Don't get me wrong I had my share of tears and laughters with Cecil and Kain, but still.... it's all about the Summons and Summoners for me.
IV for me. I had the original FF NES cart, but it wasn't until IV (II NA) that I realized how epic games could really be. Blew my mind. I still play my old SNES cart once a year. Followed by that is VI, then - surprisingly - XII. I really liked that one for some reason, it just felt big. I'm one of the few that hated X. Maybe I need to replay it when the HD version comes out.

Mystic Quest was loads of fun! The music was absolutely outstanding.
For those of you who don't know what he's talking about, you're absolutely missing out. Just listen to these blow-away-bad@ss tracks from Final Fantasy Mystic Quest.
Final Boss
Boss Music
Standard Battle
You have to understand that at the time this came out... musically, there had never been anything like it... simulated rock guitar music in a freaking fantasy RPG? Are you kidding me?
Simply out of hand, folks.
indeed
I like the versions Daniel Tidwell does though. turns epic music into something beyond epic

That's a hard question, because a lot of different games in the series have different 'bests'. For instance, if I were to pick, the best overall soundtrack in the series would be FF3's, the best villain would be Kuja, the best final boss theme would be Dancing Mad, the best minigame would be Blitzball, and more categorized favorites from throughout the series that I just can't think of at the moment.
If I had to pick an overall favorite, I'd probably say the original Final Fantasy because that's the one I've played the most number of times. Although FF4 would be the hands down favorite if it weren't for the stupid revelation before the end that Golbez was being mind controlled by Zemus. It would've been much better if Golbez were a willing cohort who then realized the error of his ways, and would have driven home the game's overall theme of redemption that much stronger.
The Liberi Fatali opening sequence of Final Fantasy VIII also deserves honorable mention.
FFVIII Opener
From FF Mystical Quest to FFVIII and with FFIX and above the series goes down to nothing more than an CoD Clone, dumb story with a lot of Plotholes and no more open world, even more bling bling and shiny graphics is all SE can make.
No more fights like against Diablos in front of Balamb Garden direct after you recieved the Lamp.
Final Fantasy Tactics
characters, story, gameplay, music, love em all. plus the class system. its one of the reasons i really liked 1.0
also the game that made me fall in love with DRK
then they remade it and you could actually play as a DRK and i loved FFT even more.
please add DRK SE ^^
FF6 (followed closely by FFT) is my favorite for the same reasons everyone else has mentioned.
However, if I had to name the best Final Fantasy ever made, I would argue that title belongs to FF7.
For me it would be FFVIII which barely beats out IV for my personal top spot. The things that stand out for me would be the graphics (at the time), the locations, the card game, the draw system, GF's and most importantly the music. The battle theme from 8 is my favourite in the series, especially the orchestrated version.
Final Fantasy X
I think if I had to pick just one Final Fantasy game as a favorite it would have to VIII. A lot of the others I loved too but for some reason that storyline, characters, and gameplay always stuck out to me. Everything about it was extremely ambitious. What I think I loved most about it was how the primary antagonist isn't really revealed or introduced until much later. Some of the story arcs in it I will admit were a tad weird and convoluted and some parts maybe were even unnecessary story padding, but I loved the whole concept of Ultimecia and how that was done.
I had a lot more to say about other games that were close possible "runners-up" but the character limit made me unable to post them. *hmph*
Final Fantasy IX, simply for the lore, art, and characters
Final Fantasy VI is second on my list
8. Largely because of the music
