Keep in mind not everyone has been hacked. There is a disappearing item/gil bug that has been accepted as of right now.

310 846 0345 make sure you're literal dialing at 9:00 pst to get through. Also make sure you already have a ticket in for suspended/banned account. I also chose to talk to someone about my square enix account, not actually final fantasy XIV. So option 1 on the phone.
Seriously considering closing my ticket and just playing after waiting 4 days and we not helping me at all idk if its worth it for only about 500k. I just want to play...
On a positive note, it looks like they have undeleted my character...

In my case I submitted a ticket after having been hacked. I didn't care that much about the money I lost since the rollback would itself takes 7-10 days and I could make the money back myself in that time however I did contact them just in case whoever stole my gil would also have used my account for promoting their website and thus I figured I would have to make a ticket so that I wouldn't get banned further down the line.
I got a reply yesterday late in the night that I would have to call or contact them through the chat and everything just feels so damn cumbersome
It seems people are being either hacked / Gil/item lost bug is going around a lot. I just spoke to a rep in the customer place. They said I might not even
get my account back. It is under investigation and I won't get any compensation even if it takes up to a few weeks.
This. I bet this is the single most common way to loose your acocunt. I got my email breached once and they got hold of my Blizzard account and this was due to me using the same username and password everywhere. Lesson learned after that.
And I don't like people saying "hacked", that would imply someone singled you out and brute forced your account, that doesn't happen.
I find it shameful that people have to hack other's accounts. The sheer ignorance of those astounds me. What could you possibly get out of taking control of another person's account? Sending gil to their main? I fail to see why this has suddenly become such a big thing. How can gamers take away the pride and joy of another player's toon?

I had the same thing happen to my blizzard account, but there are more ways to hack someone. Brute force is just one method, in this case they hacked a server, got the login info, then logged into multiple games with that info.
In this case, I doubt people would realize, they use the same UN/PW on multiple sites and other sites could have gotten hacked without them knowing or caring.
The reason this is happening is because those hi-jacking the accounts could care less about anything other than advertising their gil selling site. I can assure you there is a fair number of folks visiting those advertised sites and attempting to buy gil, only to get their accounts hi-jacked for the same purpose, and never receiving anything other than grief for their efforts.
I'm on 'the list' for investigation into my account since I got banned overnight Monday for 'spamming'.
I can't imagine anyone would be able to look at my history and be like "Yes, he totally pre-orderd the CE, played a good amount, got each crafting class up to 25+, and played a lot with another person just to make a character on a server he hadn't been playing on and spam /sh with RMT offers. Yep."
I was hacked on Thursday night. As of right now it looks like I won't have a proper resolution for a week. SE's customer service for this game is a nightmare to try and navigate. I've made numerous tickets only to get the same generic response on them by email. Finally got through to tech support on phone after an hour on hold. Told that the account was banned and the issue is being escalated. Could take 1-2 weeks. If I'm losing 7-14 days of my free trial time, I hope that they compensate me for it.
I truly hope you all get your account problems resolved quickly and for the better. I had my account forcefully hacked in Diablo III (yes, the reps on the phone confirmed that it was) so I know the feeling when it happens. :C
My personal experience dealing with SE on the phone was good, start a chat before they open up phone lines (12pm est) or call right on the dot, longer you wait longer the queue, they are very nice to you if you in turn are nice and they will fix most of your issues. I had to have token removed from account because I deleted token app and was locked out they just deleted the need for it, so yes it is very hard to get through the longer you wait to call.

well guess I am not the only one.
my account got hacked and got mailed saying suspend due to suspicious activity and gave me link to change my password.
so I changed it and when I logged in some of my items and gils were gone.....
My husband still hasn't gotten his account back and he called on Monday. The worst part? SE banned him from the forums for a week because he said that he thought the leak came from their forums. They continue their string of just awful customer servers. Why, I mean, WHY would anyone give these people money???
Same here. Game was running fine until last night, I got error 3102 and noticed 2 other bot characters on my account. Idk why were "forced" to buy a security app/key chain in order to get compensation. I haven't been on my pc in 2 days and I go to log on to my account being compromised.
That's exactly what happened to my husband. Except he hadn't been on in almost 4 days. Then he played for about 3 hours at night when we got home. Went to bed, woke up the next morning to a hacked account. I've never seen so many complaints about hacked accounts in an MMO before. It can't just be a coincidence.
I'll buy their little security token if I ever get my account back. Dunno if it'll be necessary since I changed my password to something really secure that I use nowhere else, but whatever.
After all that server trouble at launch and then this happening, I just want to play the game dudes.
How did you cancel your ticket? I just had my account compromised this morning. I was able to change the pw and delete the new toon the seller made. I lost all my gil and shards. I submitted a roll back ticket, but at this point after hearing about how long it is going to take I just want to close the ticket and go back to playing. So, how do you close a ticket, because I cannot seem to find out how you do it?
This is too scary. I changed my password again out of paranoia. I wonder if that will matter..

i got banned from the forums because i had "SE has the worst customer support imaginable" in my signature they suspended me from the game and forums for 2 weeks because its "posting seeking to damage or disparge Square Enix,the forum,Final Fantasy XI or others"
SE couldnt take the true negative criticism so i filed an FTC complaint about my ban even had the vague email they sent me and fowarded that over aswell as screengrabs of the posts,email and their twitter replies that was very anti american and prejudicial so hopefully they get fined by the federal trade commision and learn from their insensitivity and intolerance
Because the people who are getting hacked do not want to pay 9.99 for a security token which would prevent any accounts from being hacked in the first place. Or have the token and don't want to use it until its too late.
They are all saying "i do not need the token my account will never get hacked and then they get hacked" and now they lose who know how much stuff from their characters and bank or retainers.
Here is the reason behind People getting hacked its called a "Keylogger" it comes from going to sites you should not be going to or downloading files from p2p or 3rd party companies.
Why would you choose to not use the security token on your accnt rather than go through this it costs an extra 10.00 or its free if you bought the ce edition of the game and even when its free i see people choose to not use it so unless you have a super power firewall you are more likely to get hacked. when you could have prevented it in teh first place.. and lets get something straight antivirus is not a firewall even if it says it has a firewall with the software its the bare minimum of one and your service provider provided firewall is just as crappy as teh one with antivirus this is why its so easy for these accounts to get hacked.
