Doesn't bother me, AF is basically your training wheel gear for lvl 50 content that you remove as you upgrade. Besides, there is equivalent gear from crafting available at 50 for each class (arguably better since you can get HQ and 4x melds)...

Not sure if it is the AF gear or not since I think the one you have to grind for is the real AF gear even so the gear is quickly replaced upon reaching lvl 50
Because the AF armor are next to useless at the moment.
I don't remember the AF requiring effort in 1.0; I just remember of it being more of a mild inconvenience.
lol Barbatros v1 vs v2.. look it up on YouTube, the version 1 fight was A LOT tougher than this.. it's nice to progress faster- but challenge from these quests is gone. The challenge comes post 50.
What I honestly get from this thread is this "QQ, people can look cool and wear weak armor until they get their first 50 green. QQ HANDOUTS EZMODE"
Seriously? Get real...
In all fairness it's worth mentioning that they made everything much easier, not just the AF quests.
Everyone will have AF gears anyway sooner or later.
*Hands out endgame AF armor for doing a few quests*
"lolz go back to ez WoW where they hand out good gear like candy, nub!"
AF gear is replaceable as soon as you hit 50, so I don't think it's a huge deal.
I can understand getting introductory gear for endgame dungeons but it is a little disappointing that it's AF gear.
I think its because for Endgame gear, its not the best. Also I noticed the stat difference between gear at level 30 and 35 is VASTLY different so I am assuming 35-45 will be nigh exponential. They are letting you stay viable in your Job, with the gear that shows you job. This way you can participate in content without having to go off to do 100 mini quests, spend a lot of time farming, camping, spamming, or whatever obstacles it takes too keep up with your job.
Does anyone have an updated list of new armor to come? Or some discovered gear?
Armor isn't even that good stop crying over everything
^^ this exactly. AF is shiny and neat but I don't really think its meant to be anything special at all. Its just the preview armor from the character creator. One could almost be certain that in November it will all be cast aside and forever more used only as a set of armor to jump you from one patches general gear score to the next.
lol I am sure 8 months to a year from now we will all be well beyond the limits of it's upgrade-ability, ppl shouldn't get so attached to silly things. Armor comes armor goes, its that way 5-50 it will be that way with every bit of new content added. When crystal tower comes out there will be drops in it for every class better than everything we have seen so far. Its also likely that the new equipment that players obtain will likewise be upgradable thus invalidating your comment as better armor will provide greater advantage from said upgrades that are provided. So back atcha bud, get with it!:D
They are handing AF gear out like candy, but maybe AF2 and AF3 will be harder to get.
People worked hard to get to 45 and 50. Constantly spamming Numpad 0 may seem like a mundane task, but it is still hard work.
You do realize tha that is not the better gear in the game yes? You do realize that that gear been around since 1.0? So is nothing NOTHING shine and new so stfu and stop complaining.
It's easy to get, and the fact that it's replaced by something that requires more effort explains why. If they planted them in dungeons, then you'd have people saying "Got my AF, kthxbai" in the middle of a run. That'd be especially fun if it's the healer.
I already replaced some of the AF gear with level 50 Greens from wanderers/amp. It's just there for storyline purposes and it won't last long.
All the legacy players were told the AF gear they had was just going to be introductory gear come realm reborn.
Ok, I didn't bother reading anything past the first page here so someone probably (hopefully) said this already, but I'll say it anyway.
To all of you complaining about this, did you guys NOT notice that there's already a lot better gear to get at level 50?
Even the first dungeon "The Wanderer's Palace" drop better green stuff than that.
What exactly is the problem?
I'm a new player (not legacy) and I've already replaced most of that gear..
Now that I've started with uni and work, I'm kind of glad it's not going to take forever and a day to get my armour once I'm level 45 and onwards. Already got burnt out with the sunken temple and Cutter's cry (to a lesser extent since we managed to lose two members, get two more, beat the princess and her shitstorm, and then run madly for the chimera and beat it in 5 minutes).
Worked hard? My wife and I played 1.0 for less than 2 months during 2012 and had 2 full sets each. It wasn't difficult to get then. It's even easier now.
Besides, the armor isn't very good anyways. If anything, it gives you a base to upgrade from moving into the endgame.
I'm not understanding the problem. Neither XI or 1.0 required a terrible amount of effort to obtain your AF and in neither game was the AF particularly useful for an extended period. This AF still serves its purpose as being entry-level gear, but without the extra effort (read: tedium) attached to obtaining it before it's readily replaced by something better.
AF gear wasn't the best you could wear in FFXI, but it was still a good bit of work to get. SE should take future sets and stick them in hard to reach treasure coffers that require keys from extremely difficult enemies.
It's not difficult because it's entry level armor to prepare you for end game.
There's still one piece of "relic" that requires actual work and effort to obtain. The weapon. Plus, the AF2 requires more effort.
AF doesnt even last long at level 50. Do some of the higher level dungeons and you will end up finding even better gear from coffers, and not long after that gear you find, you will have enough tomestones to buy even better gear again. Gear is handed to you in this game.
I think of it a different way.
In most MMO's when you get to that border between end-game and campaign, you find theres a lot of green players still wearing inferior gear that they never upgraded due to them being... well... bad players. And subsequently are even WORSE players. (I met a level 50 bard in full caster gear, correct me if I'm wrong but don't bards use physical attributes?). The AF set resets the playing field, so everyone meets at least a minimum amount of awesome and you can tell just by looking who is in their "newbie 50" set, and who has begun to progress on the specialised sets like blacklight.
AF quests should've remained the 1.0 way. Not that I care anymore anyway as AF has no special stats and is kind of expendable.
Well by tedium I mean like back in XI where half of your AF came from coffers. That wasn't hard, that was tedious and annoying since after you had the key it was a matter of combing the dungeon until you found the chest and hoped someone else didn't swoop in and open it before you. Even in 1.0 most of it amounted to grunt work. The hard part was trying to form a pug for the group portions if you didn't have a robust linkshell or friendslist to pick from.
Well I compare them to the AF1 of FFXI which required only quests if I remember right. And then came AF2 that actually had to be farmed in dynamis and was actually good for endgame, some pieces anyway
