They aren't playing. When I logged out last night, because I'm not a jerk, there were hundreds of people AFKing at each and every city who had been there at least 24 hours since I had last played. Now I wake up at 7 AM to log in and it's been nothing but 1017.
I couldn't log in either started with 1017, then got a lobby error, so instead of getting better, the problem gets worse. Sure hope these promises made by SE to reduce congestion due the trick.
This would be interesting:
The second the maintenace finishes on Wednesday, everybody will try to get in at once and clog up the servers. Then the "I cant get in, maintenace didnt work" posts will start
I got in first try this morning (6:30 a.m. EST) but I imagine it's because the 2 or 3 people who actually log out on Hyperion were asleep. I wasn't able to log in all day yesterday...I started trying at 10:00 a.m. lol.
This 1017 Error shit is getting old. I did not pay 49.99 for this game to play it once a week when these fucks decide to log off or the servers crashes. There is a simple solution to this, implement a AFK auto log out system. You get instant results and free up server congestion. It's not going to fix peak times but at least some of us actually play the game. Thanks for a broken system SE. Your about to lose a fan whose been playing all your games since 1987.
They need to realize that without logging out people whoa re inactive for more than - say - one hour they will have capacity issues.
Lots and lots of people stay on 24/7 - playing? No. All they need to do is what every game does: you are not moving you char, you will get disconnected for inactivity. But wait, that is not an issue, cause when you try to log in again you will be able to since capacity is no longer an issue.
Yesterday, after trying to play for 3 days, i finally got in. I had to leave the house for 3 hours. I was like, let me test this. Let it on. Came back, things were just as they were. No messages whatsoever. How can they not see this?!?!?!?!?
You guys need to realize that the Japanese need to take care of their own people first; NA/EU come last on the list. I don't understand why people complain so much about not being able to login.
They'll fix it eventually but their people come first, we come last and that's how it should be. The NA/EU players simply aren't as important as the Japanese people.
i thought the servers where coming down today for somekind of big fix?
8 PM EST, if I recall, all servers are being taken down for 10+ hours to add more servers, increase the capacity of current servers, and do some stuff with the duty finder.

Remember when XI came out...very smooth after 3-6months
Remember when 1.0 came out...it was never really "smooth" but close and I played that for 15months off/on (mostly on) all for free, aside from the game purchase....
Now we have 2.0... if you're not happy, come back by the end of this month and see the improvements.
This msg was approved by our fellows Gamers and is mixed with true information:
"Whoops, we forgot we made 1/2 the worlds from 1.0 into JP worlds and didn't make new ones for each side (especially since we capped logins per world). Sorry we only prepared for 250-350k people to start the game right away. We are currently at 1.5M and counting. Wed's 10hr maint should address some of these issues. We are opening new worlds and raising the login capacity considerably. Enjoy an additional free week on us and don't forget, world transers will be opening in the next month or so."
Remember when WoW came out and the expansions? When WoW came out it was everything but smooth and every maintenance day meant a entire day offline, and more often then not the day after as well. So about two days you couldn't play. And the queues where long to get in as well. When ever a expansion came out the queues where long as well again (not as long as here but yeah here they only have a small amount of people who can queue compared to WoW i guess, and WoW had a afk kicker). Then again Blizzard had a hand full to manipulate the queues. Never did you had queue lines once things where smooth and suddenly you saw your server appear on a list of high population and that there where long queues so they would open transfers and suddenly there where queues xD
Anyway, the FF14 week after launch isn't that much different from WoW, Warhammer online, Age of Conan, etc. Often the first week is a bit wonky. Granted Rift and some others had a smooth(er) ride but it has been like this in most MMO's i played in the last 10 years. There will always be problems. Problems that need to be fixed. SquareEnix could have perhaps participated on it earlier, i mean its remains silly it takes 1,5 week before they actually gonna increase capacity. But to enjoy a MMORPG you better wait till a bit after launch when they got to fix things they didn't anticipate on and found out when so many players try to play the same time.
Reading these comments I'm getting more annoyed that everyone seems to be free cause of labor day......I'm at work atm :S
I understand, been at work for 3 hrs now. Took 5 min of "me time" on my tablet after a couple meetings.
I agree about the AFK-kicker. 25min of afk then have a 5min count dwn before the kick. (total of 30min). This should have been setup in phase 4 and tweaked as needed, AND continue with the game. Yes they are addressing some issues to help but the Kicker would continue to help alleviate some future potential problems.
For those of you who ofc will say "You must play PS3!! No PC player would want that! Blah blah blah, I'm upset about my e-pein!"
I DO play PC. I also own a PS3.
this is getting funny in a bad way... the people in AFK mode are really destroing the game... there are people saying is their right to do it and is SE problem but thats not true, why I say this, a least last week there was like a flow of people going in and out of the server in none peak hour but now thanks for the people going AFK the flow is none existent.
everybody know the server cant deal with all the people but that doesnt mean they can prevent others for playing by pure selfishness.
They should've had discongestion procedures in place before releasing the game, period. I bought the game but can not play it. I expect a second month free.
havent been able to play for 2 days allready, sunday when i came home around 19:00 CET i couldn't log in cause of the 1017, same with yesterday.. came home from work around 16:00 cet and and i stoped trying to login at 21:30
and now i have been trying for 55 min allready.. so yeah i can see another evening of trying to login to the game comming..
1017 almost 2 hours now .. i login after the jobfor 5 minutes .. (Oh TY SE for the experience) and after crash (again with no reason) all time 1017.
LOL i receive a crash again .. I was at queue 10 place.. HAHA TY again ..
1017 and unable obtain NA EU server list now for more then hour :(
Back from work, tried a solid 10 mins attempting to login.. I know I'm a lightweight:p
If u switch the launcher to japanese and try to log in it works istant, i was 392 in queue and in after 30sec BUT the whole game is in japanese
*shrugs* not had an issue at all. maybe you all are just unlucky, or are doing it wrong?
or maybe you play on selfish servers?
Putting the blame on the players is displacement. The fact that players feel uncomfortable signing off the game because they don't want to get locked out for hours isn't on them. That's on SE. If I were able to get in the game at some point today, you better believe I won't be signing out til I'm kicked off (For now, I can't seem to get in though). Unfortunately, that's what SE has done to us.
And when did it become acceptable to release ANY program, games or otherwise, in such states as these? MMO's aren't a new concept anymore. But it seems it has become the industry norm to release online games with a plethora of bugs, connection issues and whatever else tied along with them, with sincere apologies from the companies & the promise to fix it later.
Somehow consumers have no control over this anymore, and some of them actually defend it for whatever insane reason. Why is substandard the new standard in gaming? I don't claim to know what happens behind the doors of game companies, it's not related to my job in any way. But I consider myself pretty good at what I do for a living, and mistakes are not acceptable for me, personally, when I'm trying to please clients. I don't appreciate my employees doing so either. And if I hire an outside contractor, I expect a certain level of competence from him/her to do a job correctly or fix any mistakes quickly.
I once had a floor guy approach me to try him out, claiming he could beat any price. I tried him out and when I came to check his work, he had actually placed a tile upside-down (and a few uneven ones). I excused him right there. A specialist at their job shouldn't make mistakes like that.
At SE, people are being paid to do a job properly. Period. I imagine people that are doing their jobs at SE are qualified and experienced in their roles? Then why is this launch playing out as if no one seems to be doing anything right?
~I can't imagine the people who are getting paid for their internet/server jobs aren't qualified. So how is this such a colossal failure? They knew how many closed beta sign ups they had. They made a big deal about it in early JULY. And I can assure you, they had the numbers of pre-orders and 1st day sales. EVERY decent company keeps track of that, especially on a big product release.
~Customer service is a JOKE. They reroute you all over the place and then when you DO speak to someone, they tell you they can't help. And don't even bother emailing them about any issues. After they send you an email telling you they'll get back to you within 2 days, you won't hear from them until over a week later, telling you they closed your ticket because it's mucking up their system (really.). And if you haven't fixed your issue yourself by now, you stupid idiot, then try back later.
TLDR I'm ranting...but still, we players shouldn't be so complacent and allow companies to deteriorate our gaming experiences anymore. They're getting away with all this bullshit, so they don't mind doing it and throwing out blanket apologies. That blame is on us.
So I abstained from commenting until now, but I feel the need to express myself. I play on the server Behemoth, as you can see, I am a level 15 Gladiator, but I never got past that.
I began playing on Wednesday of last week, I was able to log in without much issues as well as Thursday, I did get into a queue a couple of times, but no matter, I knew I just had to wait to get in and I could just read while waiting.
Ever since last friday, no matter what time of the day it is, I hit the 1017 error. I studying a lot while at university and I also work a lot, so I can't play all that much, but when I have a free 45 minutes, I'd love to enjoy my time by playing FFXIV. Sadly, right now I am met with error 1017, and after around 10 attempts, I simply give up, I do not have the time to spam the servers to get access.
This morning I had 1 hour before class, this was at 0600 eastern time, so GMT(-5), which, as far as I know, is far from peak time. I was met with the error 1017 on 20 attempts.
So I am, at the very least, annoyed that even during morning, when generally the worlds are empty in other games, the server I play on is constantly full. I find this very doubtful to be honest, FFXIV seems to be very popular right now, but not popular enough to have 3000 players online at 0600 EST (0300 PDT).
That's my 2 cents.
it's not just Behemoth. he's just mentioning his server. I'm not on Behemoth, yet I get it any time of day as well.
I normally play on Behemoth as well but I have tried other servers (Lamia and Couerl). While I have gotten 1017's on those as well, it would generally not be as bad as what I saw with Behemoth. I'm not refuting that there are massive issues, however some servers have larger off-peak hours than others due to the community that plays on those servers.
Yes - I have experienced 1017 on my NA server since 4 pm EST yesterday. Even at 6 am and 9 am today - when in the past I've been able to get on, still world full.
I assume that everyone who is on is going to stay on till the maintenance and I probably won't get to play till tomorrow if then.
keeping fingers crossed the maintenance at least fixes the queue if not also expanding capacity for the existing servers. Sadly, previous maintenances haven't fixed much...
Interesting! I was not aware of that, and would explain why the server would be full at such a time. This is actually great news for me, since more players during the odd hours I can play can only mean more fun, if I could get in! Hopefully Square-Enix sets up a full-fledged queue system soon enough so that we can at least get in after a period of time without having to hammer the servers :).
I used to play World of Warcraft on some of the most popular raiding servers, and during peak time, it wasn't rare to be queued for 15-30 minutes, and I've never minded that. At least you know you're getting in!
I would greatly love to get in Behemoth, but I can never seem to find a time when it is not full :( Tried for days.
I was very sad to see that even trying to log in at 8am (8am!! Who is playing MMO's at 8am!?) had no effect.
This is absolutely due to the AFKers. They leave their computers/ps3s on all night long with their characters logged in.
I'll admit, I have AFK'ed, but never for more than 1 hour at a time. If you've AFK'ed overnight, screw you.
That said, I'm very hopeful that toinght's maintenance will fix this issues! It will definitely boot off the AFKers tonight, at least.
Yep I tried to get on before 12 midday in the uk and it wouldn't let me on, tried to get on constantly but still no luck.
And I bet if the shoe was on the foot and this was an NA/EU made game and if we or our cousins across the pond thought of us first they would be pissed.
