Cross Bar IS NOT good!!!!!!!!!!!!

I do the same, I think.

I have a normal bar above the cross hotbar for infrequent actions (protects/raises, food, items etc) that varies by class and I can access by taking my left hand off the controller long enough to hit Ctrl+#.

I also have a vertical bar on the left for stuff I almost never use (or use in out of combat scenarios) such as target marking, gysahl greens, chocobo stances etc that is shared across all classes. I generally mouse click this.

Very much so, but since I'm a dual gamer and Sometimes My controller might not be available I have 3 horizontal bars 2 for skills, first row are common skills that you'd see on my crossbar and cntl+# for less used skills. The third bar is a shared bar for food and potions, my emergency bar. I also have 2 shared vertical bars one on either side of the horizontal and cross bar. one side is mounts, summoning companion, dye, materia melding and Limit break. The other side is quick job change icon so i can quickly change classes. especially useful if I'm applying to a duty on SCH but I'm soloing on SMN. You can drag the icons from you equip lists onto a bar, making it very useful. I do not put my crafting classes here as there's no big reason for me to Quick change to them.

I was fully planning to use m&k before launch, i never bothered to test the gamepad in ph2 or 3 beta. But once i tried it in ph4 i was amazed. Its a fantastic implementation of gamepad support into an MMORPG imo. I think its really really good. I like the cross bar setup, kudos SE.

Where is the problem? up/down cycles through your party members. Have your offensive skills on set 1, healing skills on set 2. Press R1 to switch between set 1 and 2, I have a fully set up WHM with 2 sets only, and have no problems attacking and healing at the same time. As far as "guessing" goes, you have to set up the 1.0 bars and remember where you put which skill as well. Point invalid.

How is having to travel the whole horizontal bar (in the worst case 10 key presses) to execute one single skill be easier than having (again, in the worst case) 3 key presses to do exactly the same thing?

Exactly. You had to actually cancel out of navigating the skill bar, pick your target, then navigate to the skill again. It's insane anyone would actually want to have that hassle back.

For some people it may be easier to use the Crossbar and to others it may be easier to use the straight bar. I don't see why some people are bashing others about how they would like to play the game, not saying you are but there are a few people on here that are. If we had the option to use either one for PS3 no one would be forcing anyone to use any single one, it all comes down to preference. They are going to have to do something to enhance the crossbar at the very least as another has already said adding a crossbar set to holding L2+R2would do wonders. I just wonder how many people who enjoy the crossbar now are going to feel once the level cap increases to lets say 75 when we have an extra 10-15 skills to use? That would be 3 crossbar sets you would have to cycle through.

I know having more bars wouldn't matter to me, it's the same problem of arranging your skills efficiently as we already had in 1.0 It's either going to be pressing R1 quicker, or going the shortcut of R1+button. It's not really any different than pressing up/down to navigate from bar1 to bar2/3/4...

Mind you, I played with gamepad in 1.0 as well, and it was no handicap for me, whether healing or DD (tanking is not really my thing).
I still would not want to go back to the bars.

I guess an option could be fine, but to be honest the game already offers more options than any other I know.

My question is why was anyone playing 1.0 at all in the first place lol...think someone forgot to tell the few that stuck around that it was bad =)

HA I have mastered the cross bar and will no longer fell comfortable using the archaic straight line macro, so many skills with just the flick of a switch and push of a button :)
But to each his own, if you enjoy straight bar macro good, but don't bash the cross bar because you are no good at using it

ok so I did not ply 1.0 beyond beta and did not use a controller, so forgive my potential ignorance here.

1. how is using the arrow keys to navigate the skills faster than the crossbar? and how is it easier to remember from each skill the exact number of up/down and left/right to get to every other skill you may need to use? (i know normal rotation may be ok, but its not always 1 2 3 4, repeat if your playing up to potential of the class)

2. if the arrow-pad is constantly needed for selecting skills how do you target? seeing how that is primarily how you target in 2.0.

3. if arrow-pad is being used to select skills how are you able to select skills when on the move? my thumb cant do arrow-pad plus joystick at the same time, and if yours can your quite special. I know for me Square Triangle Circle and X are always used for skills I may need to use when moving and arrows only for things that should be done when not moving because of this issue.

My husband just joined the game having never played before, he says the controller setup and scheme is absolutely amazing with a very low learning-curve. He was raving about how great it is. *shrugs*

Having the option on PS3 is all that some of us are asking for. As for the bashing it doesn't need to be done, It would be like someone bashing you for playing Battlefield 3 on PS3 or Xbox when its far better on PC.

I found it great up until the high lvl40s when I started to get more skills and then when I Hit 50 I started doing AK runs I really started to dislike it. Level cap is going to happen and when it does we will have even more skills.

Wow, I love the cross bar. I even switched to using a controller just because of it.

Tips:
If you're using multiple pages, put the actions you use the most on all the page in the same place. So you always have cure, common ws/spell available no matter what.

I don't think you can cycle back but you can hold R1 and hit a button or dpad direction to switch to any bar so you don't need to cycle. I have set 8 shared and just hit R1 + dpad left to get to all my cross-job skills like mounts, items, and return. Then I removed set 8 from the cycle so it doesn't flip there if I am flipping through the rest. Once I used the skill one R1 press gets me back to the home set.

Is there a way to remove #8 from the cycling list? I hate having to click 2x to get back to my first set.

Remove the actions from the bar, it will only scroll through the bars that have actions assigned to them

I think the biggest problem I have with the crossbar is that I can only have one, with a toggle button that gets confusing without being able to put icons up that remind me what I set pallet D-up as.

All in all though, I love it for most situations, I just wish that, along with the mouse and controller options, they had a hybrid system like in 1.0.

That's too bad. I put my mount, class swapping, sprinting, etc there for when I'm not in combat.

I wish that we could tag which sets are active for cycling based on if we are in combat or not.

I see all you cross bar fan girls up in here giving tips which is amazing. Most of you are down playing any changes which is very selfish.

There is no reason why the three options can't be added and as simple as the Toggle/Hold/Mixed option to change. I am all for 1.0/2.0 and Hotbar for PS3.

I bought the PC and PS3 version solely because the PS3 Play Guide(check site) showed a Hotbar and the use of keyboard and mouse.


Many are very disappointed in the removal of this feature during the final beta phase.

This is the only reason I bought the game(period), I added the PC version for the odd time my TV is occupied which is rare, the PC is usually occupied by someone other then myself.

If anyone from SE is paying attention, myself and many from my online community plan to cancel our subscription and some plan to ask for a refund on the sole basis of false advertising. When we purchased the game because of a advertised feature we expect it to be there.

I've been saying this from the start. I've tried my best to get used to the controller, as I'm not a keyboard fan at all. Still, after 3 separate characters up to level 15 on 3 jobs each, I still make a great deal of mistakes with targeting. With the global cooldown thing, the 1.0 bar would be easy. I'm not saying get rid o the current system, but an option would be nice.

You guys should get into the habit of pressing R1 + Button to switch bars honestly. Using R1 its self is terrible.

Not if you configure it so that you can combinate it with battle stances.
I configured it that if the characer is in active stance, the bar switch only between bar1 and bar2 with pressing R1. In passive stance it switch between bar6, bar7 and bar8.

It not even that the Hotbar itself is bad it comes down to when you have so many skills and when some boss battles are so intense trying to dodge AoE's, switch to adds, move from the back to the flank of a target all while trying to use abilities is a pain in the butt. To me having a straight bar is just more practical I guess 8years of ffxi and that's what I'm use to. TBH the combat is the one thing that is keeping me from getting into this game. I had myself so hyped up about this game and if they cant add the option to allow us to choose Straight bar or crossbar for PS3 then I think myself and other are out.

After finally being able to get on today I don't think a straight bar would work that great its a pain to switch mobs so maybe if they added a CrossBar to L2+R2 would help.

Ugh... seriously. I'm a fast paced player. Trying to be quick with this cross bar setup is just killing me.

Even more hilarious is.. the abilities are uneven..

So you have abilities that buff up your dmg dealing, abilities that buff up your defense, and attack abilities.



If I try to mix and match my buff up abilities with my attack abilities.. I end up having a few attack abilities set on another location of the cross bar.

If I have all my buff abilities on one location of the cross bar.. they don't even fill up the cross bar.

Defense buff abilities are very limited so it would be stupid to give them a whole different location on the cross bar.

If I put defense on one side of the cross bar and try to add my buff abilities on the other side of the cross bar.. I end up having to put a buff ability or two on a whole new location on the cross bar.. lol

Ish is just ridiculous.

i have the same problem that i can't put everything in 1 cross bar i need to switch which leads to hit wrong button sometimes

the only thing u can do by now put ur attacking buffs in 1 macro with 1 sec wait and just press it to use all the buffs u need then go on for attacking

and same for defense buffs

I do not like the Cross-Hotbar at all! :mad: :mad: :mad:
I am often hesitating or activating the wrong actions. Playing more than 1-2 jobs is... @_@ such a struggle!
I really try to make my lay-out similar through-out my jobs (like my cure spells/abilities are always hold L2+O/X/triangle/square) but I often end up holding R2 by mistake and someone or myself ends up dying \(@ ;;;;; @)/ Grrrr!

I just want to be able to hold either L2 or R2 to bring up a straight hotbar, tab through the abilities by pressing/holding a button on the D-pad and press X to activate the action.

Please SE, give us the option!

First off id like to say Im a bit put out by everyone chiming in that crossbar is better and people that dont like it need to get over it or L2P. A few others have said this but if people want to use 1.0 controls and its implemented why do you give a @#%! So if people want to use it then by god let them.

Now I was vehemenently against the crossbar until recently. I am getting use to it somewhat. But in order to do so I had to switch to ranged or tanks only. I cant unlearn the past 10 years plus of ffxi style controller. Its the damn dpad! I cant use it and do positiinal combos with a class like Monk. Currently Im having fun with smn. Its ranged so it doesnt feel as hectic with positional combos or rushed to hit skills. So I use 3 crossbar rows all using only the main buttons. The dpad path leads to damnation :X

My suggestion is to offer more (shift) like functions so I can use less crossbar rows and only use main buttons. That and implement 1.0 controls

I wish we had the 1.0 bar back. Along with Ctrl & alt macros
