Id imagine they'd give us a week of free transfers like most MMO's do on launch to get us into the right servers with the right people (Most of us have been forced to different servers cus of the lock downs)
But you have my backing on this just incase they dont do it.
I agree, the option to transfer should be up to the player. I don't want forced migration either. My husband and I BOTH play and of course want to be on the same server and also don't want to have to pay for either of us to have to transfer again to be on the same server.

i deleted my original character and dont plan on makeing another one until the new servers are up, but its the least they could do.
I dont think there is a need to xfer. The servers are not really overcrowded. The reason you cant login is because they lowered the cap from 5k to 2k (i made that # up, but its way lower than 5k). When they raise the cap back to 5k there should be no more login problem.
Even if its at 5k I think your still gonna see the world slammed with too many players. There's a huge overhead of people that haven't/barely played the game and the population for the server base is larger than I think they are giving credit for. Jus hope the maintenance will help clear some of the congestion but I'm (hating to say it) skeptical for the first time since P3.
you couldnt be more wrong. some servers like mine (Lev) are so full not only are the concurrent login numbers caped but player creation is straight up turned off. Raising the cap like your talking about will help some of us with server full login errors but that will not remove the player creation block.

But i would like to know beforehand how they will handle it, if they do. If it's forced, how do they decide who gets it? If it's by choice, how do they free up the server space for people who want to move to already congested servers?
I get that the current servers are capped at an artificially low population, but as other have pointed out, the amount of players that have characters on the overpopulated servers that have been trying to log on and play well exceeds the maximum server capacity of 5000. So it is likely that many players would continue to not be able to play due to this.
Also, as I stated in the original post, that is only one reason that people should be allowed to transfer. Many players created characters on different servers than they wanted to play on because most of the servers were locked and that was their only choice asides from not making a character at all. This has left many players on different servers from their friends, spouses, free companies, etc. that they intended to play with. Since playing with friends is one of the major draws of playing an MMO, being stuck on different servers greatly lessens the enjoyment of the game due to no real fault of the player.
Agreed they should allow this as this is what GW2 did for a while till things settled down.
I think this will be necessary as the next step to relieve server congestion. I have not been able to get onto Sargantanas since Sunday morning due to 1017. Opening more servers may not help congestion on existing servers if people don't move.
I would support forced migration first actually. Targeting higher level players (those that have refused to log out at all) first. Kind of a revenge thing.
I, am collaborating with friends and were just gonna pick a new server at random and start all over and be one of the firsts to own a house.
As stated server congestion is the main problem with 1017, because they didn't close off Char Creation soon enough. The CCC (char creation cap) on some servers hit right when they filled up, say 10,000 players. But for some of the bigger servers, like Behemoth, probably over double that made toons wanting to play. I tried for 12 hours to log in, then another 6 hours the next day, and today I have given up.
I wanted to get on and give away all my stuff so someone else might enjoy it, but sadly I'll just end up deleting toon instead.

I'm not sure that the worlds are capped very low. SE has increased optimizations and capacity since launch, and says there are "over 230,000 concurrent connections". Divide by # of worlds, that's on average over 4600 per world. That's also pretty much 24 hours a day (off-peak, too), going by all the 1017s (more than capacity + queue full).
SE can examine their error logs for 1017 and know how many individuals above capacity are being denied access to each world throughout the hours of each day. If SE is not planning on transfers, they'll want to increase the worlds to handle that amount at least. World queues & fairly frequent 1017s during prime times are expected, especially close to launch, but we shouldn't be seeing queues when all 3 regions (NA, EU, JP) are off-peak times at once. (What is peak, generally? +75% of off-peak? +100%?)
But again, transfers aren't just for balancing world usage. They're also to correct for the problem SE caused by blocking people from creating characters on their friends', guild's, or family members' worlds.
i wanted to play on a NA server.. but none were accepting .. so i was forced to go Europe ..fun times ( sarcastic btw)
I would also love to transfer off Shiva (to an English speaking server community).
Well this ties back to the "AFKers" problem - even though it's "Off peak" time - they are AFK and chilling on the game , doing nothing - so the other 10K players trying to connect never get in.
Honestly I think the population is fine - I think we just needa accept re-rolling on new (brand new, no population) servers after the big maint and move on.
Hopefully the bigmaint will contain a Captcha-powered, timed, afk kicker system, as well as all those new servers, and a bit of a increase in cap for those currently massively congested needing some relief.
If all 3 of those are implemented (which given the 10 hour expected off time... could be why) I can easily see smooth playing in the near future.
However... if they don't do anything about current congested servers (the cap is too low for how many toons have been created) they won't see any result, even if 10,000 servers were added. (too many not willing to re-roll and no free-service to move your char from a congested server to a new one.)
In either case, I hope they limit the Char Creation on the new servers to the population limit. if only 5,000 players "can" be online at once - only 5,000 characters should be permitted to be created, even if it's multiples by the same person. (this only ensures everyone can play at the same time)
and since they probably will NOT include an AFK Kicker - this would ensure that no matter how many are "AFKing" - you won't be 1017ing.
The numbers would then need adjusted daily for Gil seller banning and such - freeing up player slots.
for how long? 10 minutes? im just one guy on a server and i will have 3 people trying to join my jam packed server. there was a guy in chat that said his guild of 300 players only got 150 or so on and they will all be trying to join. Lev is one of the most populated servers. EVERY person i have talked to said they had atleast 1 buddy they couldnt get in the game. So your saying the increased cap will allow atleast double population on an already over crowded server? not a chance in hell.
they will open charecter creation up and it will be locked within 10 minutes. The ONLY way to fix this is let the misplaced people transfer out to a lower pop to meet up with friends. our friends comming to Lev is NOT a solution
As of checking JUST NOW (11:40 AM, Central Time) EVERY EU/NA server is CCC. (Char Creation Capped)
Large groups are gonna have to re-roll together on a new server, planning times out to ensure they get on together.
Even my group of 10 is going to use Vent and say "NOW LOG IN" and if we all don't make it - we move to another server.
Definitely OP; I'd like to move to a lower population server, plus it'll help out SE! I reckon it'll help soothe some of the player base.

Just my luck that I picked the unofficial Reddit world, Gilgamesh.
Not that I have anything against Reddit, but that world is obviously going to be constantly flooded with new people who use the site.
They better do this. It seems a lot of people are going to legacy world to play with 1.0 friends. If my friends can't get on my server because everyone is going there, I'd like to be able to transfer my 1.0 characters off a legacy server so we can actually play the game together. If they get locked out and I can't switch to a world they can actually make a character on, it's going to kill this game for me. That would be lame.
I'm playing a character from 1.0. I want the transfer because back then I didn't know there was JP/EU/NA versions and being stuck on pimarily Japanese server with kanji in the chat more than half the time is confusing and just a bit lonely.

there is 0 chance of a legacy player being allowed to transfer off a legacy server at this point. my legacy friends have millions of gil. that could destroy the economy on current servers. they have said legacy transfers will be avalible in 6 months when we have all caught up

Signed and agreed. Every other MMO I've played that had this issue has allowed free server transfers when there is population imbalance and some like Aion even continue to offer special incentives to roll a certain race on a certain server in order to keep PVP more active.
a ONE TIME free transfer seems reasonable enough
although. doesnt RIFT allow one free transfer per character, per 7 days?

Not too sure if I would transfer, but would love the option if the 1017 boss isn't defeated on my server during maintainance.
This isn't something that should happen, it's something that has to happen. I am part of a guild of players coming from other MMO games, and right now we are divided.
I agree, we need the option to move from an overpopulated world to a new world.
This. Leviathan was our targeted server for friends to get on. RL friends included, not just in-game friends. I was up at 4:30 AM before Beta4 opened, and started spamming to get in right at 5am. I finally got access at 5:45, and Leviathan was locked down already. TWO servers were locked inside of 45 minutes. A third was locked by 5:59. And it just went downhill from there. Leviathan never opened up during Beta4 so we could put new characters on there. It hasn't been opened either when I've managed to get in through EA or official launch, so we've had no choice but to play on the servers on which we managed to create characters.
I'm very surprised they have not announced this yet. With the sever issues being what they are this is almost mandatory
They're not going to do it, they just expect you to reroll, plus they want to reopen sales and make some caching.
Please give 1 Free character transfer bonus. You see because of this *#&@* 1017 we had to choose another world that we would like to be in.
I agree. They should keep Free Migration up until servers are fix'd.
I don't mind them closing it or making a payment Model once its fixed.

/Signed Due to the fact that I am stuck in Valefor with 4 guild mates and our destination was Diabolos but we remade 8 characters just to get stuck in a JP server. It would be nice for them to tell us how many active players are on the darn servers anyway. It's a wonderful game if it works. Free server transfers would be all we need.
