booting idle players

That's simple make a pattern based macro program friend! Example: Lets say the idle timer is 20 minutes you make a macro that is pattern based or not, combat this by making the program recognize patterns of afk macro movement SE! If the person makes for instance a macro that moves at 2 minutes 10 minutes 15 minutes the program will recognize the pattern, sooner or later there will be a pattern friend, always is, no matter how long the macro is! This is the best solution SE and guys!! Trust me! this will be to much hassle for some people! bwahahaha!

I would love to see the idle players booted. In the last week, I've gotten to play once. If this continues, it certainly won't be worth my time and patience.

I'm currently unemployed and since i have no sort of income thanks to those who are just staying idle so that they dont have to wait to for people to log off to get in makes it feel that i am wasting money that i cant afford to just to play this game. So please implement something that boots idle players so that people like me dont end up wasting our money.

The booting of idle players has to be a top priority. I am tired of trying to log in and seeing the world full message. Especially when i do get in game and see toons just standing around while their owners are obviously not at the keyboard for hours. The other group of accounts that need to be removed from play are the gold sellers and the farmers. Both take up space and destroy the game. It sickens me to watch chat and see a gold seller clogging the channel with his bot's chat.

LOG OFF PLAYERS THAT ARE IDLE/AFK!

The only reason to be AFK is if you are queued for a dungeon... which takes a long time (too long).

It's just that simple.

Even if you're queued for a dungeon, you can still do other things so going AFK is no excuse even for that. Besides, you still have to be there to accept when the window finally pops up.

One hour. One hour is enough time to start on RL responsibilities before checking on the computer. If it takes longer than that, you're probably better off logging out and coming back once everything is taken care of. What about people who set up macros to get around any AFK timer? They're botting and should be removed just like any other bot. What if they've just set something against a button so it's constantly being pressed? That's trickier, but still cheating around a system designed to make the game a little more playable.

It's not like people who are away for 10+ hours will miss out on anything by being moved back to the character select screen. They weren't even there to see anything happen.

Next time i am able to get in (although looks like next year) im never logging out fuck this game and the designers they just cant pull there heads out of there fucking asses.

All these gold sellers that spam the chat logs, you would think some mods somewhere could be knocking these guys out, make room for honest players.

I agree with the other posts. Boot the inactive players after a reasonable amount of time, say 45-60 minutes. No reason for someone to take up world space while they sleep or do whatever they please rather than playing the game.

i totally agree with the whole booting AFK players. but i think maybe half an hour would be a little bit better don't you all think. i mean come on we all have to go do something at one point of another. lets say that your mom or dad need u for something and it takes a little bit longer then u hoped but it wasn't a ridiculous amount of time. wouldnt you be upset.I really like the idea of the booting once again lol. i hate trying to log in with the little time im awake cause i work nights. and with all these idle players wanting to save there spot it makes it very difficult for me to get just 5 mins of play time which i could use to reply to friends and check my mail. sorry im just babbling on and on but i just wanted to get my point across lol. 15 mins just isnt enough it should be at least 25 mins cause come on who doesnt take a 15 min break every once and a while to go grab some grub and drinks and use the bathroom. okay i think im dont now lmao. ^_^ and litterally as i made this message there is about 12 people just standing around agrivating me cause they are taking up world spots for people that actually want to play. UGH. k think im done now lol.

Am i the only one that thinks that the people who have been logged in since game release should not get the free week of game time that they issued due to server issues

If a fix for this is not in near solution can you at least please restart the servers once or twice a day. Give us a fighting chance.

On another note who ever decided paying thousands of dollars to implement new servers before doing an afk timer should be fired.
What are you going to do with that hardware in a year from now when half the population is gone. I personally am only playing FFXIV until EverQuest Next is released and I will never look back. As a matter of fact if there was ANY other game released I would be playing it.

One last thing. "square enix" is the worst experience I ever had registering and logging into a game.

I really hope they do implement logout timers for AFKs because that should alleviate a lot of the server congestion problems.

bump - I agree that there should be an afk timer. Unless of course SE fixes the sitaution and everyone can log in, and extra people cause no problems.

But if people just sitting around doing nothing cause server issue - afk timer is needed.

I started playing before 2.4, and I had to get up early to create a character on Balmung so I could play with friends.
I recently bought another copy of the game so my husband could play with me, and we spent a week waking up during the recommended hours in hopes of getting him on Balmung as well. We were successful last night a minute before maintenance started, and he was booted off during the opening. I woke up again when maintenance ended just in case, and there was already a queue to get in because the server was too full.

This could have been avoided if there was a limit to how long you could be AFK. I'll see specific players standing in one spot, and they'll still be in that very spot a full day later. It's not fair to players that actually want to play, and it keeps newcomers from being able to play with their friends. We wasted a week of our 30-day trial because we felt it was pointless to start him on another server if we had to pay the fee for either of us to transfer.

You guys know that some people just go into their FC house/inn room, and then hold down the WASD's to keep the moving and it'll never register them as AFK for it

I guess I am lucky I am on Faerie and never have issues logging in, that said I understand the kind of frustration on servers that are much fuller. SE use to have an idle/AFK limit, however that was removed due to farming for atmas, and also farming fates for animus as well. Many of those fates required sitting around waiting for hours, many times players would go "AFK" while waiting, probably within hearing distance incase the fate popped. Even now some fates you wait for on the daily hunts can be up to an hour or two. This is mainly why the AFK limit is still no longer in place. The AFK limit may come back though as a cost effective way of keeping the server population to healthy levels, rather then having to add new servers. Ten to fifteen minutes is too short though, I would be ok with 30 minutes.

I forgot to mention, that for while now log in issues due to a full server, weren't as much of an issue once things became fairly stable after launch. I do know that there was either a hot fix, or it came with a patch, but it was stated that SE removed the AFK timer because of so many complaining of having to wait 4 hours or more for some fates, and getting logged out and then missing those fates. SE implemented that change due to the servers being stable. Since then though, outside of the gill spammer issue, the population has increased a lot for this game. I recently read that the number of subs has increased to 2.5 million, that has to have an effect. Even though the time for fates has been lessened, I believe a 15-20 minute timer is too short. I would think doing as much as they can to remove gill spammers and introducing a 30 minute AFK time would be a good solution.

Does nobody remember the AFK Logout Timer during 2.0 launch? The only way to bypass it was to actually go into a crafting job and start up a synth.

I guess you and I are the only ones sadly. The other day I waited for a daily hunt fate for nearly 2 hours, I went afk and got on another computer nearby so I wouldn't miss the fate popping but didn't want my brain to atrophy sitting there staring at the screen for 2 hours. I guess having the AFK timer would mean I would have to walk over and move my character every 10 minutes. I guess I wouldn't totally be upset if it means players are able to log into the game though.

And my reason PSN when ever its taken down can't log in once the maintenance has been announced I keep my self loged in before I leave in the morning because I live on the est coast big difference because it's all ways PST time not to mention the hack on Christmas people who managed to get in stayed in.

So NO and don't even get started on the whole go PC master race crap for this reason its been done to death and been buried where it belongs.
