So choose not to use the "Echo"

In response to the willy wonka post Idiotic, yes. Also Hilarious
I've died enough to be happy with the difficulty. And this is coming from someone with 100pct completion in Dark Souls. I know people will probably make a joke about that or something, but I do have a good sense of what's difficult. Is it DS difficult? Heck no, but it's not so easy that i'm put off by it.
I used to think this game was easy like you do.. Then I realized that oh yea every game is pretty easy nowadays until roughly halfway to cap..

In terms of open world the game never gets "Hard" unless you do a FATE like Gorgimera which turns the battleground into a graveyard (and I havent even seen Behemoth...)
As for dungeons, up to Toto Rak they are basically a big tutorial to teach new players how MMO mechanics work, with the trinity and all that... So they learn the roles of their class and get ready for more challenging content
Then when you hit Brayflox the difficulty starts to ramp up, with Sunken Temple of Qarn being a major pain in the ass (NOT THE BEES - Nicholas Cage)
Also Garuda is the first real challenge in this game, and I guarantee if you PUG it you will wipe countless times
I had a really good group with good communication which discussed what to do etc (we were all new though) and we still wiped over and over figuring it all out
... And thats just normal mode
The thing with the mechanics in this game is that they are more about execution rather than knowledge, which is a great decision... What this means is, learning them is the easy part... But remaining focused throughout the entire fight doing all that you have to do... I feel completely worn out afterwards as a healer, its just overwhelming
Hard mode primals are completely ruthless and will not allow mistakes, and I assume Bahamut Coil is even worse (Heck I dont even know how Extreme Garuda would be like... how could they make the fight any harder without making it impossible?)
So yeah, enjoy the storyline and stuff until the late 30s, and then get ready to get your ass kicked over and over
I'm only level 27 but the difficulty is starting to go up. I did toto-rak last night and wiped to the last boss once since nobody knew how the fight worked. We still didn't figured it out but managed a win with an unusual tactic that somehow worked perfectly.
I only read the first post...okay, food is NOT useless. I use it all the time...definitely helps. I notice my experience goes up a good percentage after eating it. I craft all my own armor, and high quality is WAY better than regular. I notice it. Also, the game for ME isn't too easy. I die, and have to rethink my strategy...I'm having a lot of fun. Love this game. (white knighting...oh well)
Im with you Aliena games fun.
About the OP they made world mobs going out and soloing easy so they dont push away the casual crowd thats just bad business. But the group content wait for Titan and Qarn around level 35 ish. The content i think starts scaling when people unlock jobs and are able to preform better in group situations that the scaling shoots way up.
A few of the level 25 quests are pretty tough. The ACN one on the bridge had people dying left and right, as well as the CNJ quest with the treant and elementals. The difficulty does get better in the mid levels, which to me sounds about right.
Any MMO vet should have no issues with the early game, but just ride it out and you'll see some good fights.
I've died multiple times as a lancer trying to face pull multiple mobs. Working as intended!
The game is really kind of a mess. It is fun at times, but alot of it just doesnt seem to fit together well.
The solo leveling / main storyline you have to follow is the worst. I just wanna get the damn thing done. Have not read one word of it yet. Just too many useless 1/2 of a centimeter exp bar progress quests to care.
As for difficulty its really easy then you get to one of the quests then its a super zerg of enemies that will kill over and over a few times till you get the little buff that makes you win. Nothing but spam.
I don't have a problem with the difficulty, although I do agree that stats should have a little (or a lot) more depth to them. That'd make crafting, food, etc more compelling.
Wait till you get past about 35...
OP is lvl 30 , you're doing entry level content , what do you want ? keep going as someone already said more interesting dungeons are to come . They are funny , the first time we have cleared stone temple , whitout any spoiler and figuring each boss on our own was great fun , it's not that hard yet , but surely is more entertaing then the first bach of istances , that i supposed are meant to be that easy .
Keep leveling up mate ;D
go fight demon wall and come back again .... You will probably cry for a nerf : -)
Well, I like the current difficulty as it is... but I would just like to say...
Have fun with the Tonberries in Wanderer's Palace.
As for monsters in the field, why not just put your Levequest difficulty up? Having a majorly difficult solo experience shouldn't matter anyway, it's group content that matters in a MMO.
Food gives extra EXP and can give you an advantage in group situations.
This game is so easy, it bores me to tears. I understand that players nowadays don't wont a learning curve that strangles them but this is ridiculous.
Alot of players won't actually see the harder content they are longing for because they'll probably quit beforehand.
I have a 50 from v1.0 but I didn't want to steam roll through the story just to get to the end. That's not the reason I play. But with these boring battles, I'm tempted.
I tried out the first three dungeons and I have some hope. But then again, I'm lvl 19 now and it's still boring. That's almost 50% till lvl cap. 50% of boring battles.
And what if I decide to level another class? Want me to do leves/etc all the time? With push-over mobs? The mere thought already shudders me. lol
Give your customers more credit, SE.
Give them a 10 level tutorial if you must, but stop this boredom dragging on more than it has to. The infamous lvl 15 fight is a prime example of what I'm talking about.
Skulldead, just think of FFXIV like you're playing any other JRPG, at first, first when you go through any JRPG in most cases are really simple, pretty straight forward.
However once you're near end game you have more options such as extra dungeons and other events/quests that's not related to the games main storyline, which can be much much harder than the actual main story. FFXIV is taking the same approach from what I can tell, they want the players first to enjoy the story and while you're doing so with the simpleton mechanics you're getting used to game play. By the time you finish the story, you have a general idea to play your class/character well. From there you got all these new dungeons, high end gear, side stories, and future expansions that will further enhance gameplay.
At least I think that's what YoshiP is trying to achieve.
It may not make already used to MMORPG's from the beginning but end game being challenging, while first time MMOers can learn and get into MMORPG without being too worried.
Somehow this reminds me of XIII and XIII-2. Aside from the l'Cie I think it started to become challenging (mind the word challenge, not excrutiating or stupidly hard) at chapter 10 or 11 ...of 13. And XIII-2 even had an easy mode. lol
I'm sorry, but gamers nowadays are (and forgive me if I sound harsh) pussies. lol
It certainly doesn't have to be Dark Souls difficulty (though, in <primal> extreme, why not). But at the moment it feels more like Kirby's Epic Yarn.
There are more than enough things implemented that help players overcome hurdles. There is food, you can team up, heck, we even have the Echo..
Yoshi even said that he'll lower the difficulty of content over time so everyone can catch up. I welcome this notion, I really do.
XI would have benefitted from that ages ago. But please, don't start -that- low.
And why make me wait like 50(?) hours till I reach endgame? There's so many things wrong with that statement. lol
In the end I remain hopeful that the difficulty will rise soon, as players here are suggesting. Though, that doesn't change the fact that I strongly disagree with the way difficulty in this game is handled so far. Again, challenge =/= stupidly hard.
Oh and I just remembered the MP bar for ACN. lol
I really never fall below 95%. I mean, why do we even have one then. xD
I think the learning curve is alright. If any of you that are complaining were in alpha/beta, remember your judgement is off. I feel like I could get 1-20 in Grid's story with my eyes closed, but that's not a design flaw. I live with three guys that've never played XIV before, and they honestly needed it.
What I do think, though, is that longer-lasting open-field exping could be an option alongside the current system. I honestly don't think it's a "design flaw" so much as an exp calculation flaw. I can already team up with 4-8 people and take down higher-level mobs, but the exp reward for doing so seems underwhelming when compared to hunting logs and FATEs.
Please read the rest of the thread.
Probably closer to 20% of the way to 50.Quote:
That's almost 50% till lvl cap.
I'm not trying to be rude here, guys, but man, play past level 30 before you complain about how easy the whole game is. They're not going to tune the early levels to be overwhelmingly hard, because lots of people who are new to MMOs (and whom SE is specifically targeting) need a gradual introduction, and are going to be turned off by high levels of difficulty while they're still trying to figure out what buttons do what. Before very long, stuff gets harder; MUCH harder. Please try out the mid-to-high-level content (35+) and form an opinion then. If you're as hardcore as you say you are, you should be able to get to that level within a couple of days at most.
If every level from 1-50 took the same amount of time to get through, sure, but that's not how it works. In terms of time-to-cap? Level 20 is nowhere near the halfway point.
Having finished the "main storyline" the difficulty curves pretty well. I'd say Stone Vigil is probably the first decent challenge as you'll notice stuff hits a lot harder in there but once you have the boss mechanics figured out you should be able to clear it within the time limit.
I'd actually say Garuda at lv44 is the hardest fight in the storyline, at least it's the one I had the most wipes to by far. But it's well designed in that you can figure out her patterns as you go, get a bit further each time, and eventually get her down.
People should remember that the storyline quest is just that, a storyline. It feels like a throwback to the old days when FF stories were good, but this is an MMO and it's only a tiny part of the game.
Well, I did! Yay me! :D
Also, nit-picking over semantics isn't really helping. lol I'm seriously trying to have a meaningful discussion here. You'll need more if you want to convince me. And then again discussing something doesn't have to lead to convincing someone. Just because I understand your point of view doesn't mean I have to agree with it. Something alot of people (especially on this forum) don't seem to grasp. It's okay to have different oppinions, people! :D Yay!
Dzaemel dark hold says hi :)
I agree with most of the lv 50's in here.. from what i have seen on my bard the dungeons do progressivly get harder and the story is nice.. i mean look at wow where u could hit max lv in a day.. then all u had was endgame ... kinda refreshing to have a good storyline built in (even if i do skip thru it at times) and a bit of a journey to 50 instead of boom ur there all thats left is endgame
Easy? I did temple of qarn last night and it was hard as fuck - failed the first time, bit of trial and error. Guess I'm not as good as you.
If you really want to be technical, I think level 20 is something like 10% of the exp points you need to reach 50. You kind of missed my point (actually, I think I did a bad job of saying it), which was that I doubt 50% was actually a thought-out, calculated number. The guy just threw it in there for emphasis.
Yea we have been 3 manning stuff because our DPS are levelling alittle slow, so running with 1 pug in dungeons...sofar every run they have died to multiple things.
bee it to:
DOOM!
LAZERBEAMS! PEW PEW PEW!
WTf eye AOE, im too pro to sit in this purple cloud. i can take this hits.
dragon strafing runs.
woosh woosh...TORNADO!... and ice!
OMGWTFFIREBOOMS TARGETING EVERYBODY WITH SPLASH DAMAGE I BETTER RUN INTO MELEE RANGE ON MY ARCANIST SO THE DAMAGE STACKS UP!
if i hit him in the face with fireballs i do more damage right..."OH NO CLEAVE WTF..WHY?!?"
pillars? LOS? instantgib everything in sight...I BETTER STAND IN THE OPEN!
Im not sure. I think the difficulty of this game is extremely high. Provided most of us cant even get in game. It's pretty hard spamming the character select button. XD
