I also owned 1.0. I pre ordered the DCE from GreenManGaming using store credit that I had so it was less expensive than it would be for upgrading to the DCE on the Mogstation. I am now stuck with a useless code that I can't redeem. Fantastic.
Sell the code to a friend for $20 and upgrade your account... at least you didn't accidentally redeem the code creating a second service account, and are now hoping that SE merges them or something useful.
With the clearly high volume of people doing this, you would think they realized it was a stupid move on THEIR part not the consumer.
I would like to mention this is not new. This has been something mentioned since Phase 3 of beta that i was aware of. Which is the sole reason why i bought the PS3 edition of the game. I already owned 1.0 and knew that all 1.0 players, legacy or otherwise, get a free, equal, version of ARR. if you had 1.0 you got ARR, and if you had 1.0 CE you got ARR CE. Plus 14 days to play before you have to start paying. And if you got and added the PS3 version to your account, you got an additional 30 days of free play.
Edit: I would also like to mention that SE offered CE upgrades for 1.0 owners who didn't have the CE. So that you can get the CE items without having to pay for the full game.
You're missing the point, you're just telling everyone they should have known regardless. If you haven't noticed, most of these people including myself didn't know about it at all.
I work 9am to 6pm at Mercedes Benz USA mon-sat and am engaged, I drive 80miles round trip to work, what playtime? Assumption is what makes people less intelligent in this world. Yes I read forums on my iphone5 from beta phase3 to now, I knew about things way before they became relevant, that's how I got all my CE items, account verified in proper section and am enjoying playtime at night when I come home, before blaming SquareEnix, blame yourselves and read more, cry less.
I was in the same boat. Took me and three friends scouring different websites and forums to put all the info together. This is after buying two regular digital codes (no refunds) and one ce digital code (no refund).
We were all legacy players too. Thankfully we figured it all out all early enough. I sole my regular key and ce key and my gf sold hers. We upgraded our accounts to ce for $20.
We were fortunate enough to break even but I can see where people were confused. Square did squat to explain this all. They finally made a post day of launch explaining all this. Too little too late for some.
Well good for you buddy, aren't you just the model citizen? Unfortunately your argument is flawed because a massive amount of people who will find themselves in this situation will not even read the forums. You can defend this until the cows come home but the fact remains that relying on a single forum post to inform v1.0 players that they would not be able to insert a product key for ARR is completely illogical. Would it really have hurt to send out an email to legacy players?
The whole process of getting to play this game has been an absolute clusterf**k. Unbelievable. So insanely frustrated with this whole situation... $50 for a collectors edition i won't be able to use... Amazing.
Bump because people are still asking why they can't use their code. And please guys, tbh honest they did tell everyone that you would not be able to do this, albeit in a very dumb and incompetent way. Just contact support and see if they can help you out or get a refund. With so many people having made this mistake, I'd like to think SE would remedy the situation, but it;s not gong to happen right away.
This is just not right. If they would have told everyone, really everyone that ordered ARR we would have gotten a mail. SE cannot relay on a single (or a few i dont know i have found only one) forumpost. And they cannot be sure that everyone that is going to play read all kind of forums or pages on facebook.
Even though i noticed this problem BEFORE i opened my CE... I feel sorry for all those ppl that have lost their money and i have nerver ran into a problem like this before in any other MMO. Where ever i decided to buy another/a different version i was able to simply upgrade it by using the code. Why isnt this possible with SE?
Who's to say it won't be? This problem only just reared it's head, I don't think SE expected people to buy the game again if they already owned it. Get enough people to complain about how they didn't have this information up front then maybe they will let you just use it as an upgrade code.
The simple fix for this is to add an option on the "Upgrade to Collector's Edition" for "I already have a code." and let you input it there, instead of having to pay another $20 for an automatic upgrade.
I honestly feel like the entire infrastructure for the game, including the account management, server techs and the people handling the backend are about 4 years old, and are communicating with each other and us in twinspeak.
I got the same problem. I got 2 collectors editions for myself and my friend and now my friend and I have our own expensive paperweights. :p
I really hope they can allow the codes to upgrade the account as most other competitors do with CE's.
I bought the cheapest one standard edition but already have a account from 1.0 version at lv31 does this mean iv lost the free 30 days as it shows on service list I have 14 days left and code doesn't work :p

^ thats the answer i got when i phoned them, they said id get an email, there it is
That's great for you, but I'm not a huge geek who needs to stay up to date on a game. All you're doing is baiting people, and unsuccessfully at that. I bought the game so I could you know, PLAY the game. An email would have been nice or even a "hey did you buy a physical copy of the game. Click here to update your current serial!" button or link on the mogstation.
Wrong what...I have the cd key amazon gave me and it doesn't work. I put in the bonus item area...invalid. My early access code doesn't work either to give me my collectors edition item. What are you talking about? There is no way for us to get our collectors edition items. Early access code does not give us our items..only preorder items but not the collectors edition. 1.0 users only have the option to upgrade to CE. To have to spend 20 more dollars when I already bought the CE edition on amazon for 50. It says I only have standard edition. Where do I put in my key? I can't refund, amazon said since I have a code already they won't do it. Someone already got a reply form SE saying well f*** you basically.
Where was this listed when you purchased the game? Because this was never there when I bought the CE Box version from the SQUARE ENIX website. This is downright criminal, and a disgrace. 80 bucks wasted, GG.
Return and ask for a refund. You have 90 days I think
No notice on the original listing. No e-mail notice to 1.0 players. No posting about it on the main site for the game.
THE ONLY 2 mentions I've seen of it were in the topic posted by the OP and in the Letter from the Producer the topic was made for (which I didn't watch until I saw this topic).
I already opened my game, expecting to be able to redeem the code with ZERO notice that I would not be able to. If they sent me an e-mail warning me about it and I missed it, my bad. If the original listing on the SE store mentioned it and I missed it, my bad.
If it was mentioned in a ****ing Youtube video series I never bothered to watch and 9 posts in on a topic I never read, that's on Square.
whaaaat!! let me get this right... so when i already own a legasy account on win i cant get the ce version unless i buy the digital ce version???? because my physical ce arrived today and im confused where to input the code... and like seven hells im buying it with 15 e again..
Hang on, if your physical copy arrived that means you should now be able to input your registration code on your Mog station under Account Services > Add Windows Service. Input the 20 digit code and everything should be set. By default you should be on a standard account with a few days remaining.. (that was a few days ago before launch mind you) with only your pre order bonus items showing up. Once you register you should get your full 30 day of free trail play and bonus in-game items...
I realise this is a late post but I do hope everything has been resolved... yes? And since you already had a legacy account was that a collectors version or a standard version?
Basically SE Screwed us over, u say we forgot, SE should of made this alot more obvious, as 1.0 that wanted CE items and Pre-order items, of course i'm gona buy a CE pre-order.
Now i have two CE service accounts on one account, cause i had to digitally upgrade, and they wont even give me my code back to sell on or w.e
Is this what we are going to have to expect from the service that Square Enix provides?
For people that have the problem of buying the game even though they had played 1.0, no one looked up any type of information about ARR prior to is release it just a 5 minute google search cause I remember quite of few sites and articles talking about upcoming ARR and how 1.0 players were in luck cause they would be getting the game for free on release.
