Yes, after Ifrit there's a maybe 1 hours of running around with the main quest until you can join a grand company, maybe a bit more. After that you need 2000 grand company seals to buy the issuance. Collecting those takes about 1 hours :)

This is incorrect. There is a Chocobo ISSUANCE you obtain from Grand Company (for Seals). Redeeming this grants you a Chocobo Mount that you can also have Primed for battle and make your Companion (Need to use Gyshal Greens to summon it).

After you have redeemed the Issuance, you can call any mount you might previously have owned or do own now.
