I am sad to hear that. I'm considering using my real name, but my last name is hyphenated. :(
Edit: Confirmed, it takes out the hyphen! I'm gonna wait a couple weeks and see if they change it before I break down and use my character name. /cry

Owww.... Should've read the email earlier /blush
For me, this sounds like it doesn't matter (what I asked before)Quote:
In order to access this site, you must have one or more service accounts that meet the FFXIV Legacy Campaign requirements registered to your Square Enix account.
I used my real name but I will chuckle if I see a "alan smithee" in the credits. Though trust me I was tempted to use Dhalmel <Lastname>
Even if they don't allow it in the end i'll make an alt with the name ^^
i still call some of my friends with character names, ff11, even though some of them didn't play over 5 years and myself almost 3 years.
To me, that's them, and they are very used to it, even started to address each other with char names, they grew up together...
/muttering on
name is just a tag. to human or to dog, you need to give that word a meaning, then, it become special. that's why sometimes childhood nickname feels more special because it has emotion and stories attach to it. For the players really attached to the games, their char name must be extra special in their heart and memory.
i use my char name. (last name is just makeup for the fun though, but most of the forum ppl should be able to guess it easilyXD)
I haven't put mine in yet, but I'm tempted to go with my real name, simply because it would have a greater longevity. I may also change my character name.
Because I am a player in this game, my only contribution is by playing this game from 1.0 Alpha until now and giving feedback that either fell on deaf ears or was added/promised due to majority vote. My real name only holds weight to the members of my family and even then they know me by Keith Dragoon aswell.
I see no real point in using a name nobody will recognize outside of those who personally know you which in my case NONE of them play this game. All my RL friends know me as Keith Dragoon and so has everyone I ever met online so I use the name that holds more weight and reputation.
I'll stick to my real name, though it's complicated 'cos I've got a Name, a Second Name, a Surname (from father) and a Second Surname (from mother).
I guess I have to mix names and surnames (Namesecondname Surnamesecondsurname), getting something weird...
Oh well, there I go :D
My real name (First & Last) is very common. I have seen my name in movie/television credits many times but it was never me...until now... however, I am using my game name with a Lore Convention update...

Here's an idea for those of you who can't decide on what to choose for a name to display in the credits. Put the name of someone who despises the Final Fantasy franchise or Square Enix in the credits and then make sure they see it, so that they are forever immortalized in the game and have no control over it.
Put my original FFXI character name as first and original server name as last. I know people on FFXI still remember me and I put that name as part of my Final Fantasy MMO heritage.
registered using my real name
Like a boss!
I also used my real name!
I was really dissapointed that they only allowed one capital letter in surnames because mine has two...( >_< I feel like its mispelled because it looks so wierd for me to see it like that), but oh well, a not completly correct name is still better than none at all. :)
I'm really happy we get a chance to have our names in the credits! ^-^ I'm really excited to see them! :o
I think the reason for most is people would know them by there char name not there real life.
I myself put my real name because my char name could easy change down the road but my real name will lol it's my real name lol.
But at the end does not matter no one going to read the credits. We all going to read it once to screenshot our name. But no one going to waste there time to see oh is this guy in the credits lol. So using your ingame or real life names only matter to the person not others.
nice poll. I did RL name cuz people in game who would know my character can already know i'm legacy and would therefore be in the credits. I'd rather be able to tell or show people unfamiliar with the game my name lol.
Nice poll it was kinda obvious people would prefer their real name or their ingame name :3
Unfortunately my real name won't work due to "ß" and "ü" ;__;
Sucks .. D:
used my 1.0 name.
i'm going to change to male miqo'te in 2.0 tho, so i'll also change my name if the possibility is given.
Lol thanks :S. I added a link to the first post to just be able to see the results. Of the 170ish votes so far, Real name is the most popular, followed by Character Name, not surprising but the numbers are still interesting though I am an accountant and have a thing for numbers and graphs, so it may just be me.
Good poll, and I'm ashamed to say I was actually surprised at the results. I registered my character name. I only have and will only ever have this one character, so to me it's the same as my real name.
Hello everyone!
Just a couple of things to note about the names registered for credits.
First, all names will be accepted at first, but if we determine that a certain name cannot be used, we will send an email to the address registered to your Square Enix Account after the registration period is over, asking you to re-register.
Also, in the event that multiple people enter the same exact name, it will only be displayed once. For example, if 10 people registered “Naoki Yoshida,” this name would only appear once.
Look forward to seeing your names, it’s exciting stuff!
Hello Camate!
Do you know anything about this? /points down

Well, I got two FFXIV services and one of them (#1) is closed while #2 is the one with my character and Legacy. When I wanted to submit my name, I saw that it says "Final Fantasy XIV 1" but no option to select "Final Fantasy XIV 2". Will this matter while sending in my name?
Camate, can you tell us if the surname field will be adjusted so that it no longer auto-corrects hyphens, spaces and capital letters?
I would like to use my real name, but my last name is hyphenated. The form takes out the hyphen.
There are several others in this thread who have expressed similar concerns.
yesss, Over Ninethousand wasnt taken yet haha
I looked in the phone book and seen my real name posted several times but never once was my character's name. So I am going with my character's name - seems more unique
*sniff* My last game ever to have my name in the credits in it. I feel almost sad about that...
I have two capital letters in my name but can only capitalize the first letter! :(
I've had this name for the last fifteen years (Started as a character in a story I wrote and evolved) this just adds to my character's never-ending story.
It would still be nice if we could get an explanation as to why some of us are not able to use our real names?
Regarding the Legacy credits registration, we have been receiving numerous requests from various regions asking to increase the character sets that can be accepted and also decrease the minimum length required.
To fulfill these requests and have more names to be included in the FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn credits, we are currently looking into this matter.
Further details including the list of new character sets that can be accepted will be announced once the conclusion is set.
In addition, we are also planning to allow the Legacy players to re-register their name. Further details will be announced once they become available.
