However Yoshida does not want Vierras and has said it many times. He really doesnt want them.

I'd still go for mouse/rat people like the Burmecians in FFIX. I still want to see one of those scuffle with the mi'qote.

The races in Eorzea are pretty much slightly changed races from 11 (World of Vana'diel). All what was done was changing their background stories, which they can do for any other race from any other FF game.

Also FF14 as it is now will be a fan service game, so may as well add in all the things that make everyone happy. We will have things from FF7, and FF's before that smushed into this game at random places.... So.... I don't get what you are trying to get at xD.

Why not think a little out of the box?
Mechanical race, no gender! Give them a sterile appearance and go with it. A race that is not gender defined.

Also I am against single-sex races for the stated reasons.

I may lack the knowledge about Japanese tastes but I really don't see why male vieras aren't possible. As pointed out, it would probably be like male miqotes only with bunny features. I find the artworks posted in this thread pretty convincing. Normally cat girls and boys can have this sexual notion too in Japanese culture (mostly cat girls but also possible for cat boys. E.g. loveless --> very androgyne (not that this is a bad thing :p)). However the devs pulled them off in a masculine way. If they want(ed) to they can/could do the same about male vieras.

If they do add a new race, it should be something like a dragon race, with horns wings claws scaly skin, I think that would be a nice touch since the story is focused around Bahamut and there's a dragon like beast tribe I think? o.o

Something different at least lol - Vierra is so similar just add another "race" to miqote lol. Especially those example photos for vierra. If you flashed one at me I'd probably just guess it was a miqote with special ear choice.

Really if SE is going to use resources to develop a new set of animations, gear, voices ... I'd hope they do something that isn't already 90% similar to what we have.

If they really want Vierra, they should just do it now and add different "animal" options to the Miqote race in general from the start. Me personally if they eventually add a new race, I agree with Yoshi's idea with adding something completely different from all the other races.

THAT BEING SAID! I agree with Fleur, and I am against the sexist idea of not adding male Vierra just because it looks "weird". To Yoshi and others it might look weird, but to me I don't think it would be weird at all, obviously if you took a grungy over-weight man and made a Vierra out of him yes that would look unappealing, however the same could be said about a grungy over-weight female Vierra as well lol. I love the photos Fleur posted up btw the male Vierra in there looks hawt ;)

I don't care about single sex races. If they do add female only viera, I'd personally vote for behemoth-men similar to those in FF12 as the male counterpart. (but without all the added spikes and fins probably, those would be rather awkward for armor. lol) They're more beastlike, and more fitting IMO than bangaas, as the ones in Ivalice had both males and females. (one of Ba'Gamnan's siblings, Rinok, was female.)

On the other hand, despite there being plenty of King Behemoths, I don't ever recall there being a "Queen" behemoth. A humanoid behemoth race similar to those in FF12 would be a fitting all-male race and bring a touch of the animalistic side to the player races, something that's sorely needed after the void left by the lack of galka. Right now the most nonhuman looking race we can play is a toss up between the freakisly long necks of the dhal... i mean elezens, the midget bat eared lalafells, or the cosplay cats that are the mi'quote.

I reeeeeaaally do not want to see rabbit people in ffXIV: ARR, mostly because I'm anticipating criticism linking them with playboy.
HOWEVER, if people feel like they MUST play as rabbit girls, they should balance them with the werewolves from Final Fantasy V. They're just plain cool.

I've seen some good ideas here, but lets be honest what FFXIV:ARR really needs is something completely new as far as race goes. We could ask for races from other games but they would not really fit here so why not make something that not the normal for final fantasy (if there was a norm). I'm sure that Yoshi-P has some ideas he wants to try himself and we sould support him in whatever brand new race he makes up for ARR.

It would really disappoint me if they go back to having single-sex races... They will finally have evened things out when ARR is released with male Miqo'te and such, only to go back in a future expansion? It just seems so reductive.

If SE adds another animal race... I hope it actually looks like animals this time, not humans in Halloween costumes :(

I think that the fact that they're considering the addition of a new single-sex race is a gigantic step backwards.

We already had single sex races. People wanted both sexes. Why even go to the length of making new models for the missing genders for all existing races if you're just gonna nuke it by adding a new gender-specific race. It makes no sense. None.

I love how everyone is bashing the Viera race but they obviously don't pay attention to trends in asian mmos these days. Look at TERA for example: High-elf, Human, Elin, Aman, Baraka, Castanic, and Popori. Two are "demon" like. Elin are like miqute but you can choose what animal features you have(ears and tail). Popori are animals through and through. Baraka is Male only. Elin Female only. Popori is i believe Male only. Honestly, many others and myself were fine with some of the races in XIV being single gender. To this day we still don't understand why they had to devote resources to "even out" races like it really mattered. Seriously it is stuff like this that drives game developers crazy. Look at Yoshi-P for example, he doesnt want to bring Viera into the game (even though a lot of people want it) because people who like to complain about not having a male or female version of a race will complain about only haveing the choice of Viera female. On another note, why do people really care about something so trivial as this? Your ONE character can do ALL classes/jobs, so what if you can't choose a male version of a Viera or some other single gender race. IT IS NOT THE END OF THE WORLD.

um.. Yoshida decided it, and last I checked he is Asian. So unless your argument is that Yoshida isnt Asian then I dont really see what you are getting at Fantasy9.

He doesnt want to add Vierra, he doesnt like one sex races. I agree with him. Now, I wouldnt mind Vierra as a new clan for miqotes or if miqotes werent in game but having a "sexy beast race" already I see it is a waste of a great opportunity for another type of race we dont have, and this is exactly what Yoshida is saying as well.

tera is probably not the best game to do the compare here....most people who play ffxiv rather not play tera or thought it was not so great (I said most not all) then there are other who like it. I don't think they are really bashing the race just they don't want to see it in a game where it would not make sense seeing there is one furry like animal race where two would ruin the game.

Seriously? I find it funny that people call the Miqute "furry like" because all they are are humans with cat ears and a tail. No other part of them has "fur" even their hair is normal.

it relates because with all this whining these children are doing about "matching" or "evening out" genders, not very many veteran XIV players are going to actually change race and/or gender. My friend for example was going to create a male miqote when it was announced but now that they saw one they are going to stick with the female hume. Many others I know are saying the same thing about the other races that added the opposite gender.

And I am sorry if you honestly think I am trying to troll. All I am doing is trying to state points in the discussion.

this threads is asking to not add gender lock races, which has nothing to do with races already added, if they don't change that is cool but people are asking for something new to make the game less FFXI like...and most of them are the vets >.>

Its convenient that Yoshida's personal choice is in line with this.

I'm hoping he sticks to it, though I wouldn't mind a gender-less race. Like vivi's or machines or something.
