A PS4 is gonna cost alot of money...why limit your subscriber pool to the people willing to dish out for the new system...
As far as I know, PS4 will have AMD CPU and AMD GPU (7970M), it wont be diffucult to port ARR on PS4, hardware-wise, since it's basically same as PC, only difference might be OS, but would be even more funny if Sony gonna use some special OS based on windows kernel or linux kernel :)
Considering the fact that PS2 games are still created to this day and sell well in Japan I don't think it matters
that would place the console at about $1000+ per unit. no one is going to pay that, except maybe Die Hard Sony Loyalists. last i checked those are drying up as fast as Sony tells lies.
besides sticking within the trends of consoles the past few generations the clear successor to the Nvidia 7900, would be the 4xxx Series by ATI. its the defacto generation leap chip pretty much.
SOny got locked out of the newer AMD tech, since Microsoft purchased rights to SOCX2/Soc2 which is a specialized Sytem on Chip 3 layer system. THe newer GPu Microsoft locked in as well Which is much faster then the 7000 series. Locked until it releases for PC that is.
Parts wise the ps4 will be cheaper to make, and can launch cheaper.
Sony will sell the PS4 at a loss like they did with the PS3.
They will make up they profits in game sales and licensing.
You can't sell games if nobody has the system, and game sales is where the money is at.
I see no reason to postpone launch. They can still add a PS4 version of it if they want when that launches. But also if PS4 did come out, it's going to be bloody expensive so it's not going to have a huge number of players for the first year, (like any new console launch) so that in of it's self with low sales on the PS4 wouldn't be worth it economically to SE i don't think.
Profit wise it would be best to release a ps3 version and ps4 version in the future. Only worry I have is the ps3 limitations which will effect the game for PC users in some way or form and probably already has. You can spike up the graphics on the PC version vs the ps3 version, but the world itself dynamically will be limited in general due to the fact that the game has to be able to run on the ps3, so they are limited already as to how much things they can add to the world. The PC version will have more features like more complex UI with more details, but the instance dynamics most likely have been adjusted/downgraded so it could function on the ps3.
If they waited for PS4 to release it on console then they would lose the remaining few that are waiting for this game since 2 years. I personally think it's a good idea to release it on Ps3 and in a few years on Ps4 (Whatever they call it).
That would be a big shocker. The WSJ often get things wrong, especially things based on rumors.
No way SE would shelve a PS3 version that is only months away from beta, to focus on a console that won't even ship until 6-18 months after ARR launches. Yoshi-P has already said he wants to make right with the PS3 players. And given there's many times more of them than PC gamers, that's probably a wise idea.
No It was not a mistake. There are far more potential players on PS3 than there would be for PS4. They can always port the game to PS4 later.
SE probably shifted FFXIII Versus for PS4.
Andrien... I watch your entire sig. :)
The last thing significant I remember about PS4 rumors is that the hardware specs are very similar; that the Cell technology was so ahead of its time, that it would be capable of spanning 2 generations of the console. Blu ray is still the standard, so it seems to me that either machine would be able to run the game at its respective full potential.
Even old console games like N64's "Perfect Dark" were scalable with the console upgrade card.
Leaked PS4 specs say
CPU: AMD 8 core @ 1.6 ghz
GPU: AMD Radeon 7970m
RAM: 4GB of GDDR5
Blu-Ray Drive
Its pretty much going to be just like a PC so if SE really wanted to I am sure porting it to PS4 won't be an issue. But when it does come it will be expensive not too many people will have one at launch.
Last I herd it was going to be 8gb but might be the lesser ddr3.
Some crazy rumors are out too that it can support 4k display @60hz but good luck finding a tv to work with for a decent price.
Well. if the 4-8GB is to be believe for the RAM it will be necessary to have that much RAM if it's going to do 4K display gaming! and ouch on 60Hz :( Still new tech though so not surprised!
Going to have slightly blurry screens on 4K screens until they can get that refresh rate up!
4k will be only video on the PS4. The GPU of the PS4 isn't powerful enough to render games at 4k based off the rumored specs. Games will logically render at 1080p then upscale. I think 4 GB is cutting it short because the ram is shared between the GPU and OS.
4 GB ram would definantly be a huge improvement over PS3's 256mb ram lol. And coupled with an 8 core processor, can even get some multi-tasking done on the console. They wanted PS3 to be a 'Computer entertainment system' but it just didn't have the specs to beat even laptops :/. PS4 sounds to be the real CES
they are already too many ps3 consoles out on the market and whats better for franchise of SE is do it on ps3 cause has more market to sell out copys and where they has to track the clients is making a Beta vercion of the game playable for ps3 for 1month free on a Test server... soo everyone can tryout the game to know if buy it the copy soo give a test for free for 1month but open a Test Server only for betas on ps3 soo this wont alter economy on any server, also give the people the option to buy it truw the playstation store soo they dont have to extress out geting a copy of the CD...
for SE a note: you can use the algoricmic that uses pss Playstation Store... to keep track of hows use and install game from all playstations on the world that way prevented to anyone try download and install the beta vercion as many times they want.... that way they can only download and play for free once! for only 1month and if game stability runs like PC Alpha verccion im pretty sure if 30% to 60% of the people how try beta will buy a copy
I read it was likely to bump up to 8GB by release to match up with the new xbox which is has specs stating 8GB but other specs are lower over all.
as for waiting to release FFXIV until PS4 I would say that would be a very bad move, you say 4 months max? not likely, PS4 is estimated to be out for Christmas. Key issues.
delay to remake for PS4 which dev kits are barely out for and they have been working on the PS3 version for probably over a year. (I have no direct info for time on this but it's a guess.)
right now they have sold over 70 million PS3s, so it's a system tons of people have, PS4 it will take some time before you will see them as common, mainly due to Sony's common release price of like $600+ per system as start price what this one will be who knows, but it won't be no $200- that the PS3 is that is affordable for the average household.
Also if information is correct sony states it will be incredibly easier to program for the PS4 so yes converting it isn't out of the question but sales will not be decent until enough PS4 units are out there.
I dont see a probliem if they release it on ps3 then re-make it for ps4 & sell as a digital download + expansion packs.
sure some of us will be angry having to (Note: you dont have you to wanted to...) buy 2 copys but at the end of the day if its as good of a game as we hope those people will get over it quickly.
It took a while to convert the PS2 market to PS3. It is to be expected from PS3 to PS4. It wouldn't be smart to alienate millions of people who already own a PS3 for a small group of people who will own a PS4 at launch time. It will take a long while to build the numbers the PS3 currently has, and the PS2 before it.
However, it certainly wouldn't hurt to let you have an option to raise the graphical quality of the game to PS4 standards, game might be flexible enough to do this.
...Because Sony's latest console did so well. I can practically hear the muffled chattering of the PSVita as it lays in its death bed, consoling with its lawyers before it finally sleeps for the last time. Its death is explainable: Why, in a gaming market that thrives in mass consumption, would any company release a game to a console that not many people have?
Square Enix isn't making a mistake for being cautious with a new Sony console. Any new console should be investigated with caution before a company can throw millions of dollars at it. It can go very well, or it can go the way of the Vita.
The PS3 will be more popular and accessable to play 2.0 on compared to a PS4 version considering there is no PS4 version yet also a PS3 will be cheaper to buy.
However.
I hope that there will be a PS4 version tho cause I will be buying one at launch I love me some playstation :p
