you should be able to tell if someone is examining you in XIV. They'll be staring right at you. They're either going to emote at you, or examine your stuff, or both. A message is just going to be annoying. Giving it a toggle just make it just like it is now but is just a waste of time coding it all in.
Don't need... everyone can tell my damn gear is subligar anyways... and I don't bother checking others if they are not wearing subligar in the first place!
But seriously.... no thx.
/Examine <Morticous>
"Morticous slaps Morticous"
It is only natural to check out peoples gear if you never have seen it before and is courious about it, no reason to see in log than one is sxamining it so i like how it is in FFXIV compared to FFXIV.
I have no idea why examining a persons level and equipment could be considered rude, but people took offense to it so to prevent angsty bitching it's probably for the best that you can't tell who examines you.
Only if it displays "checks under your clothes"
Post from Zenaku & Nix's post is the answer to why it was removed.
Just like spamming emotes on someone, some noobs out there used /check spam on people to a point they complained.
It's difference in culture also, for JP players in XI you had to ask them "Hey, can I check your gear out first?" If you didn't ask that and just /check some took it as rude... don't know why they take stuff like that so seriously but they did. I am glad in XIV they took the damn message out since now you don't need to ask for permission first lol.
lol Well I always took it that when the message in XI said "You have been examined" and they took offense. That they were roll playing not that they were really mad.
I always thought it was funny. Besides there is not need to examine them again once you do it once until they get out of range.
However I would like to know when somebody is browsing my bazaar! You only got notified if somebody bought something. :( If I knew they were browsing I may attempt to haggle a little. or initiate parley! lulz :D
It is because of the negative stigma from FFXI that I, to this day, feel invasive when I examine someone's gear, even though it's 99% of the time due to mere curiosity.
Everyone remember the "/em examines you." back in your ffxi days
You could still see if someone was checking you out in XIV, all you had to do is notice how their head pointed and moved, especially if they were close.
I don't see why this is necessary. All it seems to do is work at people's egos.
Developers has experience from other foreign MMO's. XI was influenced by developers playing Everquest.
Now for most of the JP players, Final Fantasy XI was their first MMORPG to ever play. There was a large group of them that jumped in on the MMORPG wagon that they created their own etiquette rules how MMO should be played when most other foreign MMO's never really bothered.
It was made by developers in Japan, yes, but those developers most likely were OK with it, while majority of the JP community wasn't. There are so many weird JP rules players came up with and some of them make you go 'WTF!?' This /examine stuff was one of them for me.
I remember getting a lot of angry tells from specifically Japanese players, due to the way in which it was translated. The Japanese version is something like "stares at you" which is pretty dumb.
If they fix that, sure, otherwise don't show anything at all. I would prefer not to know that people constantly check my gear.
This would have to be an Optional Notification that has to be turned on. One of the most obnoxious things that ever happened in FFXI was when people freaked out and started /shouting because you checked their equipment. I'd really rather not have it abused, but I also like to know when people are checkin me out! ~.^
I can always generally tell when someone is looking at my character. Just look at the head animation. I wouldn't mine the examines you text though.
I hope there is no gear score in ARR. I can just see the shouts already "Great Labyrinth of Bahamut" "Gear Score 600+" any less no thanks!!!!! pst.
I miss it.
I think it would be cool to see an extra slight head scanning when they check you, I think the animation is enough though - no need for text.
Or at least put a threshold on it so there is no spam. I thought it was funny when people /shy or /blushed when you examined them. I'd go out of my way to chase them all over jueno.. lol
<--- Lucky he wasn't banned for examine spam.. :D
People will still do the mass /emote examines you.
Just to mess with people lol
What if they add a "hidden" function, that people can turn on if they don't want to be examined?
But this whole "don't look at my gear" thing, feels very elementary school-ish. Surprised people didn't start asking "do you have a staring problem?"
I like to look, but I tend to not like people to know I'm looking. It feels embarrassing to be caught looking at someone's gear (especially multiple times).
Why not add a sound effect to when we are intently examining someones gear? Like you character say "stare..."
Trolling aside I deplored the silly people that used "/em examined you." You could also easily tell they were just typing it when you are standing near them off to the side and their head never turns. Though this emote really only worked is you had the English client. Either way, I am abstaining for this vote as for me it was never a problem.
Originally I wanted this, but after going back to XI and having one particularly ruder "helper" constantly look at my gear like I'm the ugly girl that needs a makeover, I think I'd rather not know if people are judging me. I know my gear isn't what it could be, and being notified that people are staring doesn't make it feel any better.
The whole examines you thing was pretty stupid. I had a few JP players who threatened to call a GM on me because of it in FFXI.
Its probably for the better if they didn't add in a notification for checking people. If nobody knows then no hard feelings.
i like looking at people or there bazars while running. it's just something to do, hopefully they add options to do this without it making you stop. i liked running and looking. without that i almost never look. but personally i had every piece of gear almost so i didn't mind getting checked out, but i know some people would literally flip the fuk out for no reason. lol it's there to use. i never bitched people out about gear specially since i usually did this in town running around randomly grabbing people but if i get yelled at i would just spam the crap out of them ...sorry no need to be rude about just looking at your gear lmao. so not having this is fine, i don't need people knowing i'm looking when i am but i don't want to be stopped dead in my tracks when i do, i want to keep running.
The way I see it is, if you don't want to be examined, stay in your Inn room :p Goes for the JPs too. I've seen plenty of non-JPs get frustrated at being examined. I've been bitched at in /tell because of checking a random party member's gear. It happens. But with SQEX being a JP company, they'll cater to the JPs first and foremost...so when they whine and cry enough, something is sure to change. Though for the life of me, I wonder why they never changed the JP text for it in FFXI.
