1. True, FFXIV shouldn't try to be like other MMOs, FFXI included. It should include SOME good elements of other MMOs but remain a unique game on its own.
2. I rather like anima and I've grown accustomed to it. Maybe if chocobos, airships, and warp/teleport spells are added, it'd be time to get rid of it, but as it is, it's the only tolerable way to traverse the massive world map on a heavily budgeted time schedule.
3. Housing would be cool; perhaps make it also function as a player-run shop if the player so chooses. Give crafters their own identity in the world. Give us an alternative to market wards or an auction house or bazaars.
4. No. I disagree. I like the armory system as-is. The only complaint I have with the armory system is that I believe the game should store your skill and attribute and maybe even equipment sets on a per-class basis and immediately reload your skill bar, your attribute "build", and your gear set upon class change. At the VERY least, the skill bar should be saved, seeing as doing this with attributes would require a massive overhaul of the attribute system, and gear isn't quite as bad as 2-3 hotbars full of skills to swap out.
5. Not necessarily "painful", but some sort of penalty wouldn't hurt. It's meant to be a more casual-friendly game than FFXI, so losing an hour's worth of grinding to a random death would defeat the purpose.
6. I like the way spells are currently handled. Perhaps make AoE versions cost more MP than single target, but as-is, the toggle system is something I like and wish other games would pick up on.
7. I'm not sure on this. I like the armory system as-is; I already said that. The classes are meant to be weapon specialties, not jobs. I see them added a job system on top of the current class system, not in place of it. As-is, you can build your character however you want using whatever skill and attribute builds you choose. I love the customization potential for any given class. I don't want that taken away.
8. Party flag and search would definitely be a good feature. I don't see why the game shouldn't have it in some form.
Anima looks good on paper but having to constantly be worried about conserving it outright annoying. A system like XI's outpost warp system that used a small amount gil would both take money out of the economy and be less hassle. Though, honestly I doubt this will happen and we will be stuck with anima forever.
There is a perfectly good reason to have this and it's because the game is too easy. Being able to switch from a rank 1 job to a rank 50 at anytime anywhere makes for no need of planning. It creates a problem though with gathering and crafting jobs so this probably wouldn't ever happen either.
I agree.
If you look at what Yoshi said it looks like it will end up being a system where you take a decent amount of gear damage if you don't get a raise. This I think is ok because it will start taking money out of the economy.
But... Really SP loss would be better. Yeah it's annoying but it would actually playing a job once you got 50 to keep your buffer up. Right now I can't help but feel like I'm "done" with something at 50. Yes I know XI had merit points but even when I was capped I never experienced being "done" with a job.
Now this I thought was weird from the start. I can see having the AoE versions with the single target and being able to toggle between but for the same MP cost? A completely separate spell maybe pointless, but right now it needs some adjusting, no doubt.
Everyone loves their customization but does anyone honestly feel they should be able to use a Rank 50 move on a Rank 8 job?
This problem is too much unlimited customization leads to people leveling a job just to take one move from it. There needs to be limits. Maybe only being able to use moves from other jobs if they're under 1/2 your rank or something.
I think they need to adjust the guildleve system somehow because it completely over shadows partying for most people. That is why no one uses it. People log on -> Do their leves -> Log out till reset. There is no incentive to party and it's sad.
And how would targeting an audience they already have work exactly? They'd either not care since they don't want to start over, try and go back to XI, or quit XI at some point. Sure you may get some new people but for the most part you're not doing yourself a favor making a clone of a game you made in the past that's still up and getting you a decent chunk of money.
I just read on IGN Rift has 1,000,000 players now and it's only been out a month, that is crazy. So much for not copying other MMO's and being unique lol. Seriously though that is worrying obviously a lot of people were ready for a new MMO and FFXIV could have been that MMO, but they dropped the ball.
I do not want FFXI-2 but I don't want SE to disregard things that made FFXI great. There is no harm in looking at those things and finding a way to make them even better and putting them into FFXIV.
This game is just boring like i saw said in this thread by another most like myself log in do a few leves grumble some bad words and log out.... this is not a game worthy of the name Final Fantasy... change the game or change the name i'd say... then let the XI team make a "XI-2" see which last longer be freakin honest which do you think would do better?
Let thoes that think this game is fine keep mr yoshida and the current team, and give the XI team a stage to shine and improve on what they have... Really what do you think would sale? Which would have the larger fan base? Most importantly what do you think would be more fun? Say wtf you want we all know the truth.
This game called XIV would have Dead servers in no time if they actually had to compete against a
"FFXI-2" lmao... XI was great had a dedicated fanbase that still plays today while they wait for this game to stop BSing and get with the program. I saw something said about this games "fanbase" most of that is XI players that have had thier fill and was hoping this would be an improvement on greatness for the next gen but it isnt so we wait.
If the hypothetic senario i just mentioned happened you'd see XIV's "fanbase" is not at all dedicated to this game but the name final fantasy and if they had a choice XIV or a "XI-2" this game would be talked about in past tense cause it would get shut down.
You don't get to decide what a FF MMO should be.
Final Fantasy fans said FFXI shouldn't have been labelled a Final Fantasy because it didn't follow in the footsteps of every single player game befor it, and it's beyond funny to see you repeating the same sentiments.
"FFXIV doesn't deserve the title of Final Fantasy because it doesnt adhere strictly to FFXI."
Please, don't make me laugh.
There are many faults with FFXIV, but they should be isolated and discussed upon by their own merits, not in reference to some boring Everquest clone, which is basically all FFXI ever was. If it wasn't my first real MMO, I wouldn't even give FFXI the time of day.
Yeah, it makes no sense why they included an MMO in the main series.
And maybe that's their first failing: looking at an MMO like a single-player game with multiplayer option.
But at the end of the day it's just a name. And although the inner obsessive compulsive in me demands everything be ordered according to type (single players FF games being separate to MMO FF games), I also think players should just get over their personal hang-ups and definitions of what a FF should be.
Square does, as they've commented that XI was made to be a representative FF title -- not to mention common sense, when you slap Final Fantasy on the title of something you expect certain things, why do you think people disliked Mystic Quest? Why do you think people are love/hate with Final Fantasy XIII?
Why do you think they slapped the Final Fantasy title on a clearly SaGa game?
im cool with most of that, but having to change your class in the mog house why do that one of few good ideas they had on day 1 was being able to change your class on the fly.
You were right about the first point and only part right about the second.
The only group that has the final say so in "what makes a Final Fantasy game" is Square-enix, much like anyone else who owns a property. You can either take it or leave it.
As for expecting certain things, everyone has different expectations on what makes a Final Fantasy game. I for example, don't expect certain things be included in the game like chocobos, summons, blah blah blah. Rather, when I see "Final Fantasy" on the title of anything, I simply expect a quality game that I'm going to enjoy. Usually a high level of audio/visual fidelity, design aesthetic, interesting and iterative combat systems, and a story and characters I can enjoy.
This is how I can avoid falling into the trap of "this isn't a "true" FF because of _insert reason here_!", because to me, all Final Fantasy is is a name that I associate with a quality game(obviously a bit subjective to my experience just like any other piece of artistic media).
I'm going to have to differ with you there! I played years of both games, EQ and FFXI, and the idea that the latter was a clone of the former will make very little sense, I assure you, to anybody familiar with both games. Either that, or the word clone means a very peculiar thing to you. Not to say that there isn't an influence, perhaps even certain mechanical similarities, but your statement seems to me like an overshoot.

I want to know how removing anima/teleport as a menu function and moving it to the spell/action bar is going to change anything? If anything that will make teleporting harder to do because they'll have a massive cooldown on it and you will either have to keep it equipped if you ever want to use, or you'll have to equip it when you want to use it then wait the cooldown.
Sorry but that doesn't fix anything, it makes the problem worst. It also adds in more menuclicking then necessary when the system is easily accessable by two clicks instead of the 10+ clicks it would take to enter the skill equip menu, equip the skill, go into active mode, cast the spell etc.
People dont want final fantasy xiv to use certain aspects from wow. Ok remind me the top MMO for the past years yes it is wow. Meaning based on the majority of people in the world wow has some of the best aspects put in one to make the best mmo. Wow has lost players because of the ways others play Final Fantasy xiv A Realm Reborn will be great looking at the way SE is doing things just let them do their thing and wait quit complaining
guys I'm pretty sure the Loyalty Mode thread already exists
What is up with all the necroposting lately? Damn.
necropost loyalty thread not this bs lol.. pretty sure this was intentional necropost considering the person only had 1 post(vasteels mule?!?!??)
IT sounds to much likr tryign to limit people's abilities to change jobs and teleport so peopel can charge for it.
CHanging via weapons isn't changing.
Telports may, then peopel with level whm and blm for warps and telportign themselves.
See below.
[QUOTE=kazaran;801428]We need neew. We do not need a clone of an antique game well past it's prime (not talking about XI).
I agree I would like to see some thigns back
Telports to camps and areas would be nice. WHM classic telprots and BLM classic warp/return and warp peple to strong holds. Hell wouldn't mind tractor and escape returning. Set a spot to escape to. Otherwise more universal ways to earn anima. YEt we don't need peopel exploting teleports for gil and RMT's doing the same. Basically everyone would have whm, change, telport, and change again. SO therefore... no mog house changing in order to try to exploit.
Personal MH's are in the work.. be patient. However many will say no to changign jobs in the MH. It is based on the weapon you wheild and skilsl trained to it. That would not change by your house but what is learned and the weapon you use, so it is fine the way it is.
Exp loss for death was the main turn off to potential gamers. It was to hardcore for casual gamers. Fustrating many to all ends. THen again I would take some exp hit to get rid of Gear damage. But hell no to both.
AOE needs to be toggled again for spells that qualify, we do not need extra icons on our bar.
Classes have specifics but some think outside the box. It's not like it is RIFT where any class can function in a sub form for any task.
The search feature and flagging needs improvement that is for sure. Give it time.
Split personality wut
100% true words. FFXIV is already going WoW pathwith all these instances and rare open dungeon. Already know where this is gaming is going. So i left everything in the hands of Elder Scroll online...I'll stay here to see FFXIV and these Ex WoW players go down with it. Big Fail Inc.
/sigh
A necrobumped thread from April 2011.
Wow this is an old thread necro'd, its not a zombie thread, its a skele thread :p
I played Final Fantasy XI for 5 years or more, and I stopped because I wanted to play something new, initially FFXIV was not really fun, now i think it is, and with version 2.0 seems to become completely new, so I dont want a XI -2 but I want a "Final Fantasy", new, fun and enjoyable, and the death penalty , I think it's useless and stupid.
I trust in Yoshida team, so the only thing that i'm going to do is to waiting this version 2.0, then play it and have fun.
ps: sorry for my english.
I love how you started this post with "they need to stop trying to be other mmo's" because these things are all true of FFXI.
1: MMO players played and always have played games that have a WoW type UI even EQ1 have it. The only MMO i have every played without this type of UI is FFXI. So when over 70% of new players for FFXIV 2.0 going to be WoW,EQ,GW,Rift,Aion,Tera and F2P players who all user this type of layout it going to be easy for them to jump on FFXIV because it feel and play the same. Most if not all FPS have the same type of controller layout right? They doing the same for FFXIV
2: In FFXIV the point of Anima is to be more casual your friends are in Area X and you in Area Y you can just use Anima and teleport and start a party and have fun. In FFXI this was pain in the ass you had to /sh for teleport and sometimes walk for 30+mins to get to your party and then they say sorry we disband or we found someone else because you was to far and took way to long.
3: They adding housing to FFXIV around 2.0 which you could add stuff and change the color of the house so there you go,.
4: What make FFXIV it's own game is the switch jobs on a fly what make FFXI is you can switch to any job but you need to go to the mog house each game need to be diff and have it own thing so no thanks it fine how we have it.
4: The death penalty in this game is your gear getting mess up and also Sanction if you die you lose Sanction and seeing how i myself us the overcoat for doing ifrit extreme i need that buff the body give so no way i'm dieing too everyone else does.
5: I don't know what to say to this lol
6: Class= Hybrid for soloing/low manning they have more then one role in a party Job= One or maybe two Roles if your a warrior but pretty much Jobs have a main role only are you sure you even playing ffxiv now? lol
7: 2.0 that is all lol.
They want to make a game that sells more, and that is different to make a better game. It's fun how people rage about "This is not FFXI" when that is not a bad thing since FFXIV is like copying a lot of thing from differents FF and also try to copy others MMO, which this last thing i hate it.
I got a kick out of this thread because half the crap in it IS getting reworked for 2.0. Go back to playing xi of you miss it do much, they get a new expansion soon
Why do people keep saying "go back to 11", i really dont get it, its not the same game, or even close, the second tanaka left 11, the game died, there is no going back, its acually... worse than WoW atm, you could cap every job to 99 in less than a week if you have decent play time.
Edit: When tanaka actually went back (after abyssea) and made voidwalkers, the current community of casuals complained because the content was to hard, while the barely surviving old hnm ls's praised it for FINALLY having something with any version of challenge back in the game, now that tanaka is gone, again, you can use atma's in the zones and the new bosses are zerg-fest.
