that people would quit over something so minute is sad... I can understand being pissed, but if you want the challenge don't do it, others get it good for them. Yes, I know I am sure it is not going to get saved. but to threaten to quit over something like this is so superficial. Expecially when the greedy on the market make it neigh impossible to get it due to inflation for their own self worth. I don't care I would if they let me keep it I would hold on to it and then do the ARR relic quest and drop the free one and get the official one.

My idea of having a NPC would allow people who didn't want to be given a relic not to have one, and work for it, but also the people who want one to get one.

The ONLY time I can see an NPC handing out relics is if something on a higher tier than these weapons come out. And even then, a long time after they have been implemented.

As unlikely as it is, I'd kinda laugh if we DID get to keep at least a Relic.
I personally would do the quest to obtain it legit just to say that I could and did. But 1 relic. ONE. If they let everyone keep all the nice shiny crap they find under their bed right now it'd hardly be fair to anybody else.
Though there would be enough people butthurt over the one freebee, so it's probably better to just avoid all the I quit because free stuff threads that'd probably happen and give nobody anything beyond what Legacy promised, lol.

However, I would personally enjoy it if we were given a free placeholder for one weapon. If the placeholder replaced the whole getting a 8 million gil weapon and double melding it, or paying 40-60 million for one already double melded. Honestly, I was just happy to be able to get my hands on one, even for five days. It was completely unexpected and as I wasn't able to catch up in time to the point where I could join a relic static for myself, it is nice to be able to take part in part of the 1.0 experience. I sorta hope we get to keep them when the servers come up again after November 11th, just to mess around with them. It's already sort of a pipe dream for me.
Would I refuse a relic weapon if Square-Enix were to gift me one? I can't say I would and I think most people would accept. At the same time I have zero expectation for them to do this and zero desire to ask them to do more than they have already done. I played 1.0, I got to do a lot of content that's going to be gone and never be reobtainable, I got to become a legacy member and receive a lifetime reduction in subscription fees. I got to beat the hell out of Darnus a couple times, which is something other players in the future won't be able to say (or if Darnus shows up, will be a different battle).
I always planned to go through the relic quest anyways. A free one would be nice, but if I were asked, "Is it fair, and does it make sense, for everyone to get a free relic?" I can't say I would be able to say yes. -
