Will the grand finale be carried out as a live event?

To those speculating that Version 1's ending will actually be told in a prologue when starting ARR rather than in V1 itself, I'd like to say that this doesn't make any sense. Why would Square Enix cling to Version 1 by making it an important must-know-before-you-play-ARR? It would go against their idea of starting fresh with new players that don't have to know about the current game. They're pushing it as an entirely new title on PS3.

It has to happen in this version, or else it will need to be minimized as much as possible in ARR

Who honestly plays the 14th installment in a franchise without having any prior knowledge...? Thats what the back of the game is for.

Well at least they were consistent; going out with a fizzle instead of a bang. :rolleyes:

I hope there will be a battle of some sort, though I'm not sure how they will manage to make it look epic with the limitations of the current servers. It will be a bit silly if it consisted of an instanced battle with only 8 people in a party.

For a story contradiction to occur between now and November 11, a story has to occur that is contradicted.

You can think/hope/guess that a very large client download will be made available on November 1, and the gap between the 1st and the 11th is to be sure everyone has had a chance to download it.

It might be a closing movie that triggers as a full motion cinematic when you zone into Mor Dhona. It might be cutscene.

Based on the current client and servers, it's really a stretch to think that it would be a single, specific time of day interactive open world event.

An instanced end of the world, run by the then pointless dungeon and primal battlefield instance servers, re-imaged with new content while the networks are down to copy off our player data, is within the realm of something reasonable to think/hope/guess about.

You just have to wonder about why the 1st and the 11th, why 10 days apart? Time to allow people to download something large? Time to experience something before it's gone? Something like a story that would be contradicted?

The story contradiction will be between the 7UE storyline and the ARR storyline. There isn't going to be a new story in the 10 days before the temporary shutdown.

There isn't going to be a publicly available client download until they move to a public testing phase. the first phases of alpha/beta are closed tests.

Whatever man, I tried to spell it out in Yoshi's own words. I'm not talking about a 2.0 client in November, that's ridiculous. I'm talking about a typical update to the client software so that the network/server load of the "Grand Finale", Yoshi's words, not mine, is shared across all of the connected clients with limited burden on the Mor Dhona servers.

^This. There is no reason to take the servers down after the 11th and bring them up again otherwise. If anything, they'll likely revert the game back to a less-imperial-infested point in history after the severs come back up. Let's also not forget that they composed an entire 10-minute track for the final moments of 1.0. Look up "Dalamud Answers" on youtube. If you play with your music on, you'll know that this track is nowhere in the game except the files.

So far with the big events we were supposed to see leading up to 2.0 becoming unatural elemental/Cactuar/Quqirn/Goblin spawns in odd locations.

Oh my...the world is ending we have more Cactus plants....

We would all log in to the Inn to a crazy dream, only to wake up and look out the window and see Dalamud even closer.

We'd then go outside to this music.

All the shops are closed. There are no wards. No Grand Company office. No quests.

A few NPCs are standing around, staring up at the impending doom.

We try to teleport to a camp. They're all Overaspected Orange and cost 0 Anima. Going to Black Brush, we see Atomos wreaking havoc freely.

We go to Mor Dhona. Dalamud takes up the entire sky.

Imperials are everywhere.

Someone spreads the word, they found Louisoix.

He's standing on a hill. We talk to him. Everyone's crowded around. He gives us a choice. To be sent to another era and escape this destruction, or to remain, and continue the pointless fighting against the Imperials.

If you choose to be sent onward, a cutscene occurs. Dalamud comes crashing down, but you get whisked away by Loiusoix. In its final moments, we see Louisoix making his last stand, trying to use the gods of old to keep the awesome destruction at bay.

You are then logged out permanently, with some message of hope for the future.




At least, that's what I hope happens. And everything I just described can be done pretty easily with the game's current technology.

Edit: You can also view it like this - This will be our last 1.0 chance to get linkshell group shots, scenery shots, and cutscene viewings in. Just because data isn't saved on the server past Nov. 1st doesn't mean you can't absorb all that you can locally before it's gone forever.

There are no more patches/updates for 1.0. There wont be one now and there won't be one on the 1st.

There will be live events (as people have already observed) but not a patch.

Nah I actually completed the storyline even though they delayed it to make this game..but it is FFXI so..guess I understand your opinion.

Its a shame to hear people saying they expect nothing in the end from SE as if the producers did nothing the entire time this game existed. Think of how epic it was for Yoshi to envelop a whole story line into Eorzea so it can metamorphose into a completely new world...for us. Epic. I know whatever happens in the end, when that little Lalafiel unplugs the lights in Uldah for the final time - I will shed a tear.

It makes plenty sense because that way people who didn't play 1.0 can figure out what happened before ARR?

Well it does kind of contradict the whole reasoning for them wanting people to actually continuing to play 1.0. The Umbral Era story is that "one time story you can only experience if you play now" they went on about, so having our ending which is the new player's intro be told in a new game for example doesn't make sense in that manner.

There will not be anymore patches if they have already added everything in Patch B... However... If there is no more patch, then what is the point of adding more Atomos in some of the Noobie areas of the game then?

I would find it pretty pointless if they just placed it there because they are lazy...

Only way to find out really is just wait it out and see what happens.

I don't have time to search for it now but I am almost certain it was said there would be a 1.23c patch.

If you read the lore posts, it specifically states Atomos is just appearing at other aether camps for the same reason it appeared at the high level ones, over aspecting them. They removed the monsters that popped with it because people (not even new players) were complaining about them being there.

Those sheeps been there. SE added them when they increased monster count so people could level.

If it's a live event, I'll take that with a grain of salt. I get chat lag all the time on Balmung... plus, the question comes up: can the servers even take it? In a lot of other MMOs, I could see events going down because the screen could hold more than 30-40 people on one screen, and without causing th- -his t- to- h- lagggggg - app - fff - e - ... e-.. - en. *long series of AOL connecting sounds*

Um, the story hasn't concluded yet.

The last few missions have been a huge set up for a climactic battle that hasn't happened yet. Namely the summoning of the Twelve, the mass Garlean invasion, and the falling of Dalamud are all coming to a head in Mor Dhona. Not to mention the mysterious arrival of Atomos.

The storyline currently sits with all these things hanging, ready to be resolved in a climax.

You'd think so, but I think it links with the fact the over-aspected nature caused Atomos to materialize into our plane (the battle versions) so if that happened to all it really would be chaos lol. Though we can see in ARR SS's that at least the aether camps at starter locations while using a different crystal design, still very much seem to be fine.

we will all be given full rank and best gears and gm's will be popping a NM to let us fight them on last days!! i heard they did something like this in ffxi end of beta lol. they should try something like that, toss us 1 never seen before hardcore NM or something and try killing it. (think it was NM in bottom of garleid citedel, forget the name, the skorpion by the way)

Late post is late. XI's intro was interesting in the fact that it felt like something came before it, but never did.
to be honest when i saw the trailer of ARR it immediately reminded me of XI's intro. a massive battle between the Garleans(beatmen) and City States, Garleans Gaining the upper hand do to Magitec(Beastmen Contraptions) which allows them to break the line and wreak hovic, it ends with Lousius Sending us Away(girl pushing her brother out of a window) only to end with Lousius being overrun and presumably killed(much like the girl), followed by use awakening(returning) to our place of origin (much the boy in Xi who grew up and returned to the site of the battle.)

as sad as i am to say it, i don't think where going to get this grand finally we were told was going to happen.

The AAR intro is just a short recap to give new player's a little context without actually telling the whole story. It's like the "last time on FFXIV" type recaps that you get with ongoing tv shows. That intro contains zero details about how any of the 1.0 issues get resolved. The Twelve Summoning? Dalamud? Garlean invasion? Atomos? These things have yet to be answered, and these are the things that will be dealt with 1.0's climax.

This should be clear with all the buildup we've been given in the missions, assuming you've finished them all. We're at the precipice of the final confrontation. To expect that Yoshi plans to make us wait for the ending of the Dalamud story for months after 1.0 finishes service? Be realistic. We're gonna see the story conclude in the last days of 1.0 in some way/shape/form.

When? Take a look at those 10 days the game stays live after the final save happens. What better time to have a final doomsday event?
