all in all, i like it. the body moving in the middle could be smoothed out a bit but i do prefer it to what we have now.
If he stood there with that pose it would be more interesting. It's just that up and down motion he does, that is just really... ugh.
It looks very overstated and doesn't match the aesthetic at all. While the current one is too homogenous and dull, at least it doesn't look out of place
It feels like every fix for 2.0 is made without the understanding of makes that issue, well, an issue
sure it looks bad when its looped like that lmao....
No one noticed this is exactly like any other current MMO out there? The wobbling body shit is present in WoW and most other games. They are making everything look like Blizzard's game and no one seems to care, which is a shame.
that whipping up and down with the body looks silly i think ,but other than that its ok. but maybe ive seen it wrong , you dont put your weapon away after casting right?
I'm all for constructive criticism... What I was quoting was not.
Sirakitty, nope you keep your weapon out after casting.
I prefer the animation we have now. Seems that I have master the art, this new one looks like I'm trying to.
Looks like better Offensive magic to me. And I prefer this casting offensively then the touch my forehead.
My real Fear is seeing all those ppl running around him with horrible feet animation o.o... almost look as bad as Fable 2 and 3 ... I hope its gonna be fixed. (most likely will)
I like the weapon movement, and the glowy stuff, but I agree his weird little 'dance' there is a tad overdone. I don't think casting a spell should involve that much body movement. It sorta looks like he thinks he's going to take off and fly away or something. I could get used to it, but if anything they should just tone it down a little. Make him wiggle around a little less.
Let's keep this discussion civil guys, you either agree or you don't, you state you opinion, explain why, and that's it. There's no need for name calling, hateful memes or insulting remarks. And it's better to ignore the ignorant.
As for the ones who stated their opinions, whether you agreed or disagreed: thanks for taking interest in my discussion. I know now that some of us liked the animation, and others didn't. It's a matter of taste in the end I guess.
(And for the ones who said that the picture I posted is sped up, yeah, I'm not expert on turning videos into Gifs, I just recorded the "middle/delay animation" and turned it into a gif to give you guys the general idea of the body movement, i apologize if it turned out to be a bit sped up, it wasn't intentional, nor was aimed to make the animation look worse)
The animation looks great in general, specially the start. It's the middle that needs to be fixed a bit in my opinion. There's no need to move his hips this way in a dance-like move. Saying that "it's done this way to make it like he's conjuring magic" is a valid point, but there are better ways to do it: hand movements, shoulders movements, stepping or half-stepping forward or backward.. I can see tons of ways for magic to be conjured, but for hips to be involved like that, it's not the ideal way. We've seen this kind of wavy-movement in a number of games; making snake-like weird movements while casting spells, and it didn't really give a feel of being "the epic mage who burned/froze/electrocuted the enemy"
Some of you might wonder and ask "Why do you keep focusing on the body movement? Why the hips? Just look at the whole animation in general and that's it." and you have a point, but the reason I keep saying "hips" because it's the most noticeable thing in this animation, I showed the animation to a few friends who are all RPG gamers (more into offline RPGs than online, not ffxiv players) without saying anything, honestly, just said "What do you think?" and they all noticed it and hinted at the hips movements before anything else: "Why is he dancing like that?"
Very hard time telling if he is casting a spell or having some kind of seizure...
But it looks more natural when looking at it while listening to Sandstorm.
I like it.
Yeah, please do, because if it still looks like that come beta, I plan to pitch a fit. Its the most distracting aesthetic issue so far. I hear the removal of those animations were intentional, but they better tweak it to look decent SOMEHOW, 'cause all that treadmilling is gonna have me facepalming through the whole game.
It certainly look different but I like it more than the boring one we have now.
This animation is like Miller Highlife.
Smooth and delicious?

EXPELLIARMUS
o,o I can't judge it yet, until I see the actual game product. But ... HADDDDDOUUUKEEEEEEEEEEN!!!!
it looks like a girl should be doing it which is why i like it lol. i play a girl character and i think it looks perfect for her. Its like the tera animations really girly and cool
Reminds me of my old Mage casting Frostbolt...
I found the animation a bit weird as well - a bit cartoony.
The projectile spells and attacks are going to be awesome though.
Let's hope the Fire spells end up more like the FFXII versions.
Forget the spell casting animation. Look at that fall rate and distance of the combat scrolling text. It's clearly not using the correct terminal velocity equation V = sqrt ( (2 * W) / (Cd * r * A) and just looks unnatural not falling at a represented 9.81 meters per second.
They need to drop everything they are doing and fix this now because it is the most important thing for me in the game and I could never enjoy it otherwise. I understand this is alpha but they are risking a PAYING customer here.
Ask yourself this. How would Harry Potter do it?
It should be further improved in my opinon
