It is a bug, they said that in the letter that the length got bugged and reset to 0

I don't mean to be nitpicky, but PIE doesn't go on hands. DEX does, which is also a BRD stat. But I get your meaning. For a while I was spiritbonding Raptorskin Culottes so I could meld other Raptorskin Culottes. The ones I was melding were undyed, and the ones I was using for SB were purple. If they were the same color, I'd end up spiritbonding the wrong pair.
A lot of respect for SE, you can see they put everything they have in this.
I can't wait to start playing.
by "people" you mean "english speaking players", and those people are used to getting info immediately because they're used to playing games where the default language is english. meanwhile, non-english speakers have always been the ones having to wait for info to be translated.
wahh game doesn't cater to me first i'm so insulted gonna go play mw3 wahh
Don't care about what's going in this thread, I just came here to say:
CHOCOBO COSTUMES!
IT EVEN HAS A HOOD!
the gameplay in the video looked pretty good. some things i was concerned about, whether or not they were 'bugs', etc were:
- [ 1:29:25 ] the character movements - we saw a lot of weird movements from the other players and i HATE how the strafing works. it looks so half-assed for the players upper body to remain forward and the lower body to turn. humans don't quite work that way.
- [ 1:14:30 ] the 'weaponskill ring/puff' that was coming from the cnj v flower fight was very tacky and i hope that doesn't happen for every enemy weaponskill. the aero/stone effects v the flower were lacking, although the casting animation was awesome.
This still made it sound like you were limited to 4 people and needed to ally Free Companies if you had more people.
An AH system where you select what you want to buy is not the same as having a street full of retainers to check.
I'm hoping is is only a minimum, but then there was the quote about allying if you have a group of 8.
Thanks, that dev post at least put my mind to rest on that issue. It was just badly worded in the QA post.
True, but its really hampering the gear set system if you can't use it to change all of your gear. Being able to equip a full set of gear from one place is great but if we then need to resort to macros or manually changing gear in addition to the gear sets its kind of defeating the point.
SE have never been the best at conveying information. I'm hoping it isn't as bad as it sounds. The dev post Inaaca posted cleared things up about the Free Companies. If you have similar information that shows what we can use the same gear in multiple gear sets or won't have hundreds of retainers to look through to find what we want then please post it too.
I know for the market system we can still search for items and they're improving it too, this is a good thing. But then why bother with the hundreds of retainers anyway? What was described in the QA post basically sounded like what we have now but with an improved search system that allows searching of HQ or melded items too.
Um... you can have 1 Free company with 100 people in it. (4 people of the same nation has to start the free company "Founders" then 96 other people of any GC can get into that same Free Company). If you want an alliance you need to just get more people of that Free Company.. you don't need to make other Free companies to do this.Quote:
Exactly. This sounds like if you want to have groups of more people, you need to create alliances. So if you have a linkshell of 40 people, you need to create 10 free companies and ally them all?
......../facepalmQuote:
This still made it sound like you were limited to 4 people and needed to ally Free Companies if you had more people.
if you are lacking reading comprehension, there is a thing called "common sense" you know
The same could be said about burst when it first came out. And look how that turned out. Yeah it's a cheap spell, not worth that 15 minute cooldown though.
And that casting animation. Oh god I hope that's hyur stance only. Lalafel with that stance will look even more odd.
Dunno bout you, but Burst is a pretty good spike spell used properly >.>
Just finished watching the video... (long!)
many "we will make announcement later, please wait" but few points are interesting:
- I like the idea of house for LS with possibility to have rooms (anybody need a housemate? I cook!) and chocobo stable
- The fights are much faster!
- Wada is a player! o_O?!
- Character creation software allowing us to start creating our character before ARR is released
- You can have tail-less miqote (length setting to 0)
- Chocobos wear job clothes (white, black mage...)
One thing I'd like to add is how bad the new lalafell running animation is. The new walk is silly but at least makes sense. Why are their tiny legs now hopping the length of their whole body now for no reason? More of this unneeded change to cater to the new horrible strafe walking?
What i like most of these live letters is Yoshi showing too much XD he probably got scolded after this letter hahaha those three sure had a fun time
How amazing does the game look?
I'm so excited to try out the new crafting and gathering!! And the graphics looks pretty damn cool too (remember this is .. pre-Alpha? They still need to add in the shadowing/etc .. I mean look at 1.0 Alpha/Beta/Release. They each had significant changes to the lighting).
What's with the glitched out log-chopping NPC animation? [X]

Regarding the "Gear Set" thinggie that you guys keep discussing about;
Isn't that the reason why he ask for feedbacks? either do macro or gear sets... .
Well... Actually he mentioned an "alias" system that I am actually hoping that people remember he mentioned and that it's used. Essentially, if I understood it right, one can equip a 'ghost' of a gear into a gearset, and when you switch to that set it moves the gear from the gearset it is to the one equipped. Of course, once you have a ton of gearsets you might start loosing control of where is what... Which was one of his big worries.
Did he not explain that the game was working on the unstable build server and that the game was liable to crash? Development issues!
Like the zero-length tail!
Yoshi-P better fix it, or else. http://i.minus.com/iVtZZkgmEFdP1.png
I had not heard this, but if true, it confirms my suspicions about the root problem that is causing this whole "one gear per set" issue. Since the items that are put into gear sets are no longer stored in our inventory, where are they? From a programming perspective, it's a serious consideration. Let's say you could put the same helm in multiple gear sets. Is each instance of the helm in each gear set a clone of the original helm? In that case, what happens when it takes damage, do you have to iterate through all sets, looking for instances of that same helm and updating the damage? Or do you just have one "real" helm, and the rest are just pointers, in which case, which is the "real" helm?
It's not that none of these questions can't be answered, it's that not limiting gear to one set per item spawns hundreds of niggling little contradictions, not to mention a cyclical pointer nightmare depending on how it's implemented. Of course all of this trouble spawns from the simple supposition "gear in gear sets is removed from your inventory". If it weren't removed from your inventory, gear sets could just be collections of references.
Sounds like this "Alias" thing implies that they are basically making the first set you equip to store the actual gear instance, while the rest of the sets just store references. That begs the question though, what happens when you remove the aforementioned helm from the first set? Does the instance get loaded into a random set that contains a reference?
I'm am also extremely displeased with the idea of one gear per set (since it really does almost completely destroy the utility of gear sets), but I can at least see why they are leery of trying to do otherwise. Seems like a nightmare I wouldn't touch with a 10-foot pole.
Interestingly enough, something like this gear set thing is present in The Secret World (you don't need to have two items of the same to have them in the same set), and Funcom didn't manage to make it work correctly since beta.
While they're solving a ton of issues, this one continues to bug out.
I just wanted to reiterate something that we clarified recently to make sure everyone is aware - when forming a free company, the founding members do not need to belong to the same grand company.
Also, as was mentioned in an interview, in A Realm Reborn we will be making it possible to change grand companies. Once you change, you will have to wait a certain period of time before you can change again. However, when you change to a different grand company, you will be unable to equip items that are not from the grand company you belong to.
Is this going to also apply to "Recruit" equipment? Such as for example, the Lominsan Dalmatica, maybe the Ul'dahn Longbow, Gridanian Bottoms, etc. I'm referring to equipment that was obtainable from all 3 companies before joining a specific one. It seems kind of unfair to lock out these items. Equipment available only by pledging your allegiance to a Grand Company seems fair, restrict that. The other parts were offered out between companies as an "incentive" deal so restricting these seems a little unfair.
Its completely fair, it actually makes no sense to be able to equip gear from another GC when you don't belong to it lol, do you see your nations soldiers rocking the enemies attire?
Also the recruit gear sucks so who the hell cares.
Well my dreams of making the perfect BLM set out of GC gear have been crushed :(
Next thing I'm hoping to hear about GC related is the possibility of returning GC gear you no longer want for seals (at a reduced rate, of course).
Nice! That's fair.
