even if it was 1,000,000 gil for 1 crysta, do you want to get banned??? v.v*
I agree!
discloser: I actually 'liked' the 'no' post but then I unliked it cuz it was giving the OP a 'like' in general. So I just DONT LIKE this thread at all! Have a nice day! ^^
Bingo. The only problem with the original proposition is the crysta to gil way. It would help retain people as well i think.
Has it ever occured to you that expanding the crysta service could be part of the suggestion implementation ?
The only thing people should be able to buy in-game with real money is cosmetic stuff, like a hat with a FF logo on or a t-shirt with Yoshi-P on and things like that but nothing that would give them an advantage over other players. If this was a F2P MMO then maybe, but since everyone pays a monthly fee then like I said, only cosmetic things.
This is pretty much my thoughts on it, too.
If you have the luxury of being to afford to buy cosmetic/vanity things like novelty hats or new patterns/colors for your equipment then by all means do so. There's no reason why any person should not have the option to increase their own enjoyment of the game (if that's how you roll). But when said person can gain an advantage over other players, simply because they happen to be better off in real life, it isn't enjoyable for the rest of us who can't even if it is for said person. Not only that but it can only aim to further segregate players based on their real life circumstances, and that's already evident with regards to geographical location, work patterns etc, and allows those better off people to have more control on how everyone else plays the game (which also is seen with the self proclaimed "elite" variety of players).
I genuinely believe that EVE Online actually did this extremely well, however it should be noted that EVE Online has a time-based leveling system which means no matter how much gil you have, you still won't be able to do much unless you keep on playing. I honestly wish I had more friends playing EVE because it is a great game. But despite all that, I'm not sure how it would work in a game such as this where leveling is fast and gil is more important at end-game situations.
Overall, I can see pros and cons and I'm on the fence for that reason. I do feel people are very quick to dismiss this idea, though, and if they took the time to see how it has worked effectively in other games then they might not be so quick to jump to conclusions. All they read is "people can buy gil" but that already happens. Better to have it benefit SE than have it happen through RMT. And the only way they can actually buy gil would be through selling months of subscriptions to other players, making it actually not a Completely Selfish Thing. Imagine if you played the game so much that you could just pay for your subscription using gil? Again, it's not a terrible thing. A large amount of the best gear in this game can't be bought with gil anyway, so it wouldn't have too much of an impact on PVP etc.
It's hilarious how most people in this thread did not bother reading the OP's idea and straight jumped to what they think he's saying ;)
Like another poster have noted, the OP is pretty much suggesting a carbon copy of Eve Online's PLEX system, which was also adopted in GW2 IIRC.
There are some pro/con to this system, but it's hardly the devil some seems to be making it out to be before even bothering reading what it is.
1. Is it RMT?
In a nutshell, yes. But instead of 3rd Party RMT where the in-game cash are farmed by bots and the RL cash goes to the 3rd party companies, under this system the in-game cash are from the regular players and the RL cash goes to the game dev.
2. Is it a cash shop? and does it create money out of nothing?
No, in game currencies are not being created out of thin air and sold for real life currency, the only thing being sold is subscription time, which is then traded for in-game currencies that already exists.
3. Is it P2W?
Depends on the game. In Eve Online, money is a far more valuable commodity than in your typical theme-park MMOs, as it is the driver behind just about everything. However, even there it's hard to argue (though some do) that PLEX is P2W, as EVE's mechanic dictates that player skills matter far more than anything in-game currency can buy.
A newbie can cash out his daddy's credit card and buy himself a high skillpoint character and a 30bil isk faction battleship with the best officer gears, and then proceeds to get lolpwnd by a couple guys in cheap battlecruisers right afterwards. Will it be the same in FF14? it's hard to say, as it really depends on the mechanics in ARR.
4. Does it force people to buy items?
No, what item would it force people to buy? the only thing being sold here is subscription time, I suppose if you want you can buy 100 year's worth of subscription to FF14, but that's probably not a good idea.
5. Does it inject additional money into the economy?
No. All money that the sellers get from selling PLEX were already in-game to begin with, there is no new money created out of thin air, as the transaction remains completely within the bounds of the ingame economy.
There are definite pros to the system. For one thing, I haven't paid any real money for my 3 Eve accounts in... 2-3 years now? This system def. have allowed some Eve players who otherwise would not be able to play to the game to, well, play the game. It also serves as a way to combat RMT, but it's not going to annihilate RMT. If anything, it serves as a... price ceiling? for RMT operations, which may or may not lower RMT activity levels. It can certainly discourage players from using 3rd party RMTs by providing them a legitimate route however.
Well, since crysta is only used to buy game time (at the moment), I can see this working out and not breaking the game. It could be similar to EVE's PLEX system.
The only thing that I can think of that would deter it is the fact that the gil cap is so low, and supposedly easy to reach.
I thought you meant get gil in game and trade it for crysta. As in, pay for 1 month in subscription fees, then take the ton of gil you made in that month and have it turned in crysta, using that to pay for your subscription instead of using RL money. XD
No. Not just no, but hell no.
like-wise. That's why the whole idea (which everyone knows already) Is out of the question!
Obviously the Cons out-weighs the (ahem) "pros".
You know it, I know it and SE knows it.
If I was SE, I would tell OP to stop smoking that crack-pipe! :P
Way to actually not read my post
Why don't you actually try to articulate why you think the con out-weights the pros?
The PLEX and other similar system isn't going to work for every MMO, but at least try to put some intelligent thoughts into the hows and whys before you default into the relatively thought-less and automatic "omgz cash = rmt = p2w = the end of the world!!!" response.
The only one that sounds like they're smoking a crack-pipe here IMO would be you, as the OP's post is at least coherent :P
