Summoner a whole disappointment for pet-class lovers?

If we ever get the lvl cap raised to 60 would mean 2 new skills for all the jobs and 5 for all the classes, or if its 5 lvls will e 1 skill per cap.

I don't think SE will raise the cap on the ARR release, they will probably wait for the first big "expansion" after ARR.

Arcanist and Summoner aren't even out.... Plus we don't even have enough info to say that the class/job sucks or not.....

Why don't you people wait till it is out and THEN you start bitching about it? Not a week goes by w/o a "ARC/SMN will suck" thread or something like that....

I know it's been like.... what... 2 years for some? But bitching about something BEFORE you try out for yourself is kinda.... stupid?

Besides, like someone said before, 5 job actions restriction is from 1.xx, who knows? Maybe they will make more job skills on 2.0

And even if it is still a 5 job actions restrictions, maybe they will add an equipment with a primal's essence (something like "Ifrit Essence") and then make Summon/Recall actions, that leaves 3 actions "free".

I saw some new additional drg abilities in the demo. safe to assume we'll get more than 5

As a player who is eagerly awaiting mention of a puppetmaster class and an avid pet class junkie, i am excited for arcanist and summoner. I will probably main that class as soon as it is available to scratch that pet itch.

Now, i am not worried about anything OP is worried about simply because no concrete details have been released. But i do love to speculate and extrapolate on the unknown. So hear is a series of questions:

How much control will arcanist have over his pet?

Will the myriad DoTs and debuffs originate from the player character or the pet?

When summoner is attained, will he still be able to summon carby? (i assume so)

Will the primal essences simply replace carby when summoned? Or is it possible that the primal essences infuse carby with varying powers (demonic fire carby Or green winged carby)? I think the latter idea is pretty cool, but maybe that's just the puppetmaster in me being nostalgic about maneuvers...

If arc/sum spells originate from the pet, will different pets change the effects of DoTs and debuffs?

I am excited to get more details. I am NOT disappointed by a few vague (and logically unsound) assumptions.

The way I read it, it seemed like the Carbuncle is sort of the "Primary Player", while Arcanist supports Carbuncle with DoTs and Debuffs. That is to say, the way I have been imagining it is Arcanist will have a "Summon Carbuncle" ability, along with 5-6 general command abilities "Attack", "Heal", "Heel", "Buff", "Debuff". That leaves 8-9 slots for support and DoT spells.

It works out will, since that means Summoner can devote it's abilities to Avatar summoning and Avatar specific abilities, while retaining the "Attack", "Heal", "Heel", "Buff", "Debuff" commands from Arcanist.

Pure speculation on my part, but it seems to work out well based on what we know of the class and job so far.

also for those of you that had it in their head that we will be restricted to 5 class abilities (even on your main class) based off some of the newer screens (I'm assuming that is what you are basing it off of) Well here is a screen that negates such assumptions

If it does you shouldn't complain because this is what Summoners always was. Its actually the rule of summoners, FFX/FFXI for example were the exception.

2: They havent yet said anything or even tried to do anything about abilities revamp which we dont know anything about.

Very accurate. Pretty much before X, the huge excitement about a summoner was just seeing the one ability / animation the summon would do, they never hung around. It's kind of like in FFIV, whenever you defeated the actual Summon, such as Queen Asura, Odin, or Bahamut, they would say "I will lend you my power." I think it's sticking to it pretty well

+ Class Skills are different from Job Skills which are the ones currently limited to 5 so I don't know what this screenshot has to do with what people are assuming here.

Is anyone on these forums happy with anything ever? Well... except starlord, I think that guy takes some sort of happy pills.

Maybe we'll get lucky and the 4 skills won't be the summons themselves and they'll have us fight the primals to get the summons like in 11 and those 4 skills will change depending on what we chose to summon? Perhaps a new equipment slot similar to the Job slot for Summons? IE equip Ifrit, summon ifrit, 4 abilities for ifrit become equipped? (That way you didn't give SMN a new ability for calling each summon)

Too much to ask for I suppose ~

(Yes I read the thing and know that's not what we are getting)

because people are assuming we will be restricted to 5 class skills in 2.0 hence why people think Summoner wont have access to carbuncle.

Going off the 25th anniversary event, Yoshida made it sound like summoner will get pets and not attacks other than the 5th skill. Main reason for this is because he said that each pet plays a different role (DD, Tank, Healer, Support?). The way they made it sound like is that summoner will be able to summon an elemental pet (doesn't sound like elementals) that uses the primal's powers. So maybe it's something like you summon Siren with Garuda's powers?

OOh just had a thought,

I think it would be amazing if you could only use one summon "essence" whatever at a time and there was a long cooldown like 15 mins to change over. so effectively you have to pick wisely before fights or take multiple summoners :).

ur mixing it wrong i meant 5 class abilities will be restricted from the job
example (getting tired of saying it over and over):
DRG> cant use Dread Spikes,Keen Flurry,Heavy thrust, Full thrust and Life Surge (an example dont rage at me just an example) and these five class abilities will be replaced by 5 more to the job making job have 10 abilities ws what ever rather than the current system.

And i'm just saying I dont agree with that, there isn't anything that gives me that impression. Are you assuming this based off SE saying Summoner will not be the one to summon Carbuncle?

I see smn skills changing depending on what summon they have out at the moment.

And see my theory is that they said Summoner will not be the one that has the Carbuncle summon skill (arcanist will) that doesn't mean that Summoner will still not be able to use the Arcanist skill it just means that Carbuncle is not exclusive to Summoner and Carbuncle won't take up a job slot. yoshi said in the live interview that FOR NOW there is only 4 and we only know what 2 of the summons will be Ifrit and garuda he said the other 2 are secrets till summoner comes out. what i was think was the Grimoire was how you summon you take out the like the Book of ifrit and you auto summon it and you auto attack a mob which the essence would auto attack for you. or you equip garudas book and summoner her, that way it save the 5 new job abilities to actually be something useful. but im not sure now since they say you actually hit the mob with the book but they couldve been joking.

Yoshida said himself that the summons would be based on a role in the live 25th anniversary event. It would make no sense to say that, if the summons themselves didn't play a larger part than just a simple elemental attack, because at that point, it's NOT a pet class..

Also, I like to think the pet that absorbs the essence of the primals is kind of like a man-made conjured up phantom with the unique ability to absorb some of a primals power.

Did they say somewhere that summoner pets are just 1 hit animations and not real pets following you around? I didn't see that.

The ARN and by extention SMN class being also the debuff mage class is what kinda crushed my enthusiasm.
The action bar is kinda too limiting and I'm afraid it'll end up like bard, wherein only 3 reserved actions are actually songs...
To me that wasn't bard, it's archer with bard subbed. So I'm nervous that there will be too much focus and need for debuff skills and the actual summoning part will be completely overshadowed.

I'm still holding out for a beastmaster type class that is purely focused only on the raising and use of pets in gameplay.

And although I was disappointed by the initial description, I'm still hoping more information or gameplay video could turn my opinion around.

Who's to say the actual summons won't be the ones doing the debuffing? Almost like Summoner in FFXI

I agree with you on some extent, but then again I'm also thinking in terms of FFXI. Bard was much more expansive than it is in xiv, but xiv is a different game. Here's hoping that in the future jobs open up a lot more job specific abilities instead of the small 5.

I think it would be completely plausible for Yoshi-sama to deviate from the 5 skills per job option.
It would allow for SMN to be less limited as well as allowing for easier implementation of future jobs like BLU (If they ever do implement him)
