Yeah but the thing is, how long would that be fun. In theory its awesome but everyone would probably get tired of one shotting things after like a week. A good example I will give is the grand theft auto games. They always come with cheats that make you borderline invincible, and give you all the weapons which makes it fun to sit there and see how long you can last against the police every once in awhile, but how long does it take until that gets boring and you go back to doing the story and actually making progress in the game? With super stats and drop rates it would just be the same scenario except we won't have the option of going back to actually making any sort of progress. Is it really worth any sort of square enixes resources, no matter how minimal, when they could be working on the launch of 2.0 instead of doing that.
Assuming Nov 1~11 is a world special world event that closes out the 1.0 server story/setting, then I will only play until that's over. If there's not even that then I'm probably done after Nov 1. I see no reason to keep playing post Nov 11 though.
Did you not read the entirety of the post? I clearly stated my point. I don't believe it is worth square enixes resources no matter how minimal to try and think up things to make us play or give any sort of manpower to keep the servers up at all when they could be working on 2.0.
They don't have a big red "Make everything awesome button" they can press on a whim, these would be things they would have to code into the game.
Nope, if the data isn't saved I think I'd rather play D3 and other stuff.
Run it like EVE Test Server? They take a mirror and that's your launch point, it is wiped at the end of the mirror. In this case when 2.0 goes live.
My question might be, how long do you think it will be before someone is screaming "I hate 2.0 give me a legacy server". You could nip it in the bud and implement one now.
- I support the "God mode" suggestion as well. if for no other reason than glorious youtube vids.
I don't see the point in keeping the servers up after the proposed November 11th date. I know he used the reasoning of the social aspect of the game, but there are plenty of other methods of communication outside of the game that people can use in the meantime.
I'm personally going to use the time between the 1st and the 11th to re-record all my cutscenes from 1.0 in HD so I can compare them to the new ones in ARR. Also, I thought there was going to be another lettered patch between now and the end of the game? There wasn't any mention of it in the producer letter so I'm guessing not...
Anyway, once I get done the things I want to accomplish before the servers go down, I can finally take the time to play some other games that have been on the backburner. Sleeping Dogs, maybe some Path of Exile and Diablo 3.
no, I will don't play after the save date, and SE will have to start 2.0 ARR soon after that because we have no reason to wait without playing. Or maybe our caracters will be in the beta without loosing data of the beta, that can be great
I might keep playing should the servers stay up. I've only just re-joined the game recently and am having a lot of fun. However, in the next two months the chances of me seeing and doing everything there is to see and do is very slim (I only play evenings/weekends). I'd probably keep playing just to experience different aspects of the game that perhaps I may not have yet experienced by that point in time.
why do you want to experience different aspects of the version 1, it will be change anyway...
Like many... if there is no save there is no point. I have other things I can do till Beta or official release.
I would vote no. Too many offline games to play while waiting to get into beta and such. I will use said time to play RE6 TTT2 and perhaps AC3. Also with the way my luck is I would get a 5 meld or a wep drop and knowing I cant keep it would just be "stressful" to quote Yoshi -P.
Let the finale be just that ....final.
Will the servers be up "forever" or just for a while longer? I am confused about this
I really done see the point on playing after the data save. I'll just seat tight and wait :)
No I will not be playing. I'll be in GW2.
I mean, I already don't play now after seeing all that stuff we're getting for 2.0, there's no incentive to log back in.
I will jump on the yes boat. Just so i can waste time in a dieing world.
If i played after servers go down and got darklight i want or some shit i would just never touch the game again lol. Items i want but never seen drop Darklight eye patch and corselet shit is a myth to me.
I think we could all play still It says the charater data will be saved at the end game but if were allowed too keep playing after the servers close down would that mean we couldnt get the achivements as well after that too.
If that were the case i would like too keep playing as long as i could get the achivements (minus the job/class achivements) those would hold me over till 2.0 or even if the beta testing started that would hold me over for awhile.
Aside from hopping on to talk to my shell now and then (which really isn't even that big of a deal, since there are other ways we can communicate between versions) there's really no reason for me to go back on after the final save has been completed. I also vote no.
no. I'll step away.
i may come back for 2.0
but it better god damn be good or im going to strangle the the ones in my closet
For the same reason I'd go to see an attraction the day before it was torn down and replaced with something new: because it's interesting and creates memories. I'd go even if I could only stand at the side and look at it, rather than interact with it. That's the kind of person I am.
The Online world isn't always so different from the real one. Not everyone is so detached from these things that they can't find enjoyment in the old, without promise of reward, before the new comes along.
I'm not saying I would play it hardcore for no reason.. but I might do a few things along the way if the servers were left up, things I wouldn't have normally gotten to do. If they go down, no big deal.
I like this.
While none of you progress matters, it would be a perfect time to go everywhere and take pictures of everything that will be changed. Maybe do something that we use to do a lot, like fail the 3 BW leves or something :D
You may be thinking "but you can go do all that now". But now is not the best time, as you are still working hard on your saved character data.
Server marathon in Mor Dhona...anyone?
No need to worry about gear damage / repair.
I've got plenty of other games I can play during the down time so I'm not interested in logging in after initial shutdown.
However, I'm not opposed to them leaving the servers up for the people who do want to log in. If they are willing to do it, why not?
I think I'd use the time to collect images and videos of those things that won't make it into 2.0.
It might also be fun to try stuff like 5x melds, converting all gear to materia, Do experimental runs on endgame content, etc...
So yeah, I'd play after the save.
No, I'l take a break until v2.
I assume Yoshi-P is concerned players will leave the game like ending a relationship by not looking back.
Well, he could see about extending more alpha and beta opportunities down the line instead as that would be more useful in the long run to SE and to the players.
He could also start releasing more info about any apps or addon kits and start getting feedback as thats another way to keep players drawn in even if not logged on.
They could continue community events too. Maybe even "design an app or addon" contest so the devs can gather ideas themselves using the contest as a front ;x . I've spent whole weekends on the banner and ring contests, and others are working on the voiceover contest all the time.
I guess it might be also be time for a backcatalogue FF or Dragon quest marathon ;x
nooooooope.
I'll probably just take a break from the game during that time. I might mess around on occasion, though... Perhaps do a little roleplaying if any roleplayers on Balmung are on.
I probably wont bother playing after November 1st (unless there's still some kind of live event to experience, but then after that, I'd be done). If nothing saves after that, then its just wasted time. I'd rather play one of my other games I've had sitting on the backburner.
do not want.
Looks like an overwhelming 'no'.
I probably would play to the 11th in case they do some fun stuff in the last 1 1/2 weeks, but probably not much more than that. I'd also use the last little time to do screenshots and videos of cutscenes and stuff
I'll atleast log in to see how many melds i can get on my Darksteel hauby. and if its more then 2 i will kick myself..
..Then show up here full of rage that it won't be saved! RAWR!
j/k Will be neat to try though. Theres positives to having a non save period. All those crazy setups for bosses or dungeons you always wanted to try but couldn't because everyone else wanted a "sure" win...nows the time!
From the sound of it, namely
it seems like there'll be some live event after the 1st, most likely one where things go really nuts (meteors smashing the countryside, randomly killing people and mobs, garlean forces slaughtering anyone leaving the city, heck maybe even meteors smashing down in Ul'dah killing people). This stuff would be effectively unplayable beyond just a fun vision of what's happening, and when you see Ul'dah get blown up in the opening cinematic, you can think "I was *right there* when that meteor crashed!"Quote:
The grand finale is right around the corner, as the Seventh Umbral Era descends on Eorzea.
/wishfulthinking
Edit - Oh, and if there's no event, then no I won't play. No point.
I think, if anything, I'd go exploring and look for places around Eorzea that I haven't been to yet.
I guess I'm one of the few who will keep playing after the data save... probably every day but not so late into the night as I do now. ^^;
It will be a fun time to do things like take many more scenic pictures, do goofy things like running the dungeons in reindeer suits, or just sit around and chat with the LS (whomever else is around) about what awaits in 2.0.
After save date, SE should give us all relics and 5 melds and make GMs summon primals around town
I honestly don't want the servers to close down as they start up the alpha testing on this game (its one an the only one i enjoy) an i wanted to get my war classes up to max an then focus on my DOH an DOL's i would suggest keeping them open through all the alpha an beta testing since its only open too japan for the time being I personally want to beable to get the stuff that's still in this version before 2.0 comes out i would have to miss out on anything here before it goes too 2.0
I bet there will still be people raging why they're achievements or characters wasn't saved.
but my vote is no, i want ARR NAO.
