okay well that's like your opinion i think what looks good on a man is crop top shorts and thigh highs. and we have plenty of armor in this game lmfao

Like nobody even in RL wears that belly revealing stuff the Roe is wearing, what is that
Not bringing in other thread stuff, it seems that anything with garters one one of the exact things CBU3 hates giving men. Because they don't seem to have an aversion to stockings on men, but garters.
But guys please remember, trolls hunger for attention, it is best to starve them.
Causation vs correlation. People pick female characters because most glam looks much better. It's difficult to find glam for a masculine character without looking like wannabe Hulk or a caricature. I am convinced there would be more male characters if we had more options to make them look appealing.
It feels weird because the Aiming alliance raid set, the one inspired by Lilisette, is way more "girly" than this one and it's imposed on male characters regardless (given the preview picture on male miqo).
They're just not consistent with the gear design guidelines.
i have my problems with monster hunter wilds but that game did armor/glamour well! Every character can wear either the "male" of "female" set. No restrictions. its perfect! I dont understand whe the ffxiv keeps doing this. im so tired of every healer has robes, every male armor has pants, like what??? why???
The thing is if females want pants they have options
Males have literally nothing besides pants or shisui style speedos (not that I’m complaining on that front)
Like I legit can’t think of a single short to medium stylish shorts for males that aren’t just swimwear while I can think of multiple pants for females even if they still don’t get enough because of gender locked garbage like this
Please tell me the lalafell model is male because I hope the guys get those shorts at least.
I’m so tired of this genderlocked nonsense, boss.
The lalafell is a male, I can confirm.
Males have shorter eyelashes (female eyelashes are so prominent like a cartoon, you can see them in preview images like this one. Check the alliance raid gear models)
Males have dark eartips (female dunesfolk can replicate this, but I rarely see it)
While that idle stance is shared between both models, it's flipped. Guys pop their hips to the left, while girls pop it to the right.
That is the Ramza hair, but the form of it that changes to Alma's hair on females.
Oh, that is a male Lalafell idol stance? I thought it was a brand new one for 7.3 because I remember the pose has them place their hand behind there head.
You're right I just looked up a youtube video of the poses. I can't remember ever seeing a male lalafell do that pose, but sure enough they have it and the video is from 4 years ago.
The outrage would be justified... if we already had the outfits released and we could confirm that this is the case. For all we know, it could be a case of whoever was in charge of the previews only putting the girls in the feminine outfits and vice versa and people are complaining about something that never was. If it is the case, though, totally justified. See you guys on patch day.
I agree with everyone else, the playerbase should be free to dress their characters the way they want and genderlocking glams is silly in 2025. I also believe the same should be true for emotes as well, I would love to have the idle stance of males for DRG, I personally think it looks better then the idle stance of female DRG for example.
Methinks it is a strategy to entice people to buy more fantasia, and that is why these clothes are locked behind the genders.
I'm more of the opinion that the vast majority of players don't care of the genderlocked clothes and that's it's a commonely accepted by most that the female clothes in gaming are "sexier" that male ones. Even more now that it seems clear (and confirmed once again) to everyone that "sexiness" sells, Stellar Blade or Marvel Rivals are the proof of that.
And that's they would have as much critics from the "other side" if they removed all genderlocked and differences between female / male clothes. So they don't bother doing it and continue to do as they always did.
Not saying it's good or bad, just that's it is.
There is a chance that the vendor will sell both variants of pants, which is something that hopefully they do at release.
However, I think it's still fair to sound the early concern because just as they might do add both variants at release, they've also didn't give people any reason to doubt that given their track record.
honestly feel like they should just give modders a pass already they did so for Final Fantasy XV i don't see why they couldn't do so again. it would free them up time and resources that could be better spent adding more things to the game and improving systems and quality. Baldur's Gate 3 did the same thing too.
think of all the hairstyles, facepaints, tattoos, an shared gear pieces we could get if they just outsourced too modders so many things would be solved by their dedicated fans in very short periods of time.
The jacket on males showing their belly is a hard pass for me.
But I know in this, men get very little in the way of shorts. Just some normal knee length shorts, with cargo pockets or maybe summer shorts would do.
Also the item picture showing trousers when your character is a female, makes you get lost for a moment looking for the item.
That does not mean a female pants variant and a male shorts variant don't exist, we just haven't seen it. We're on the same side, don't get me wrong, I also want both for everyone, but wouldn't it make more sense to confirm it actually is genderlocked before we get angry over it? I'll just wait for the patch and see it myself.
The requirements CBU3 have when creating anything are not, and will never be the same as modders. They've barely been awakened to the concept of optimizing their mods so you won't blow up someone else's PC upon spawning at a party.
Outsourcing to professionals? Sure! But not just straight up modders lol
A bit off topic, but not totally.
Is this stuff going to be on Mogstation or are we going to be able to get it in-game?
The modern set looks like it'd fit in the PvP series malmstones. The other one strikes me as a mix of space idol and an airline attendant (?) so I wouldn't be surprised if it showed up in CE. But we don't really know where they're going to show up. We know it's unlikely to be in the Mogstation because they pretty much never announce those as part of "patch content", they just release it without previous announcement.
Edit: One of the modern ones is likely to be the treasure map one. There's also a 3rd modern fit we saw in the LL, so we don't really know what is going where until release day.
Beside harder mods being illegal (like console and hardware modding, anything that gives you a competitive edge) there is a definite "Only we control the narrative of our games" type of situation. Besides needing to control quality output, there is cultural things happening here.
Which I do find odd considering Japan being the home of doujinshi of all things, but I digress. It's unlikely to happen with Square Enix who are very old guard in the rpg realm. They likely want to ignore modders. I think FF15 was more of a fluke because the game absolutely flubbed, and they don't want to attack modders on FF14 because they know that there is seriously cultural differences at play, and also modders have to pay money to even test their mods (because you can only test in game) and that it is way to late to stop that train without serious consequences on the bottom line.
I’ve already seen people defend the genderlock because it’s “based” and a “retvrn to tradition”. But I do not think having a man in a crop top fits that description. Nor the woman in baggy pants. This isn’t a good example of a pendulum swing, if you ask me. FF7 and 10 had great examples of men’s and women’s gear being distinct yet modern. If you wanted to “retvrn”, it should be something along what they had with attractive and clear gender separation and combat utility.

of course they would always have to curate what kinds of mods are allowed and for a fact most would have to used in a vanilla style so they can keep the rating board from sueing etc or from some places banning the game.
but we do have confirmation that they are fine with things that don't cause disruptions like shaders for example things that enhance graphics or just things that are strictly SFW an are not stolen assets from other franchises' etc
Another preview of the PVP gear has been released with the preliminary patch 7.3 notes. I believe the model on the far left is a male Hyur... Sighs. I would love to be wrong about presuming the leg slot being genderlocked for this gearset, but it's likely.

Why is the jacket cropped like that, is it supposed to be maternity wear or something ???
There’s still hope I think… it looks like there could be 3 base sets with 2 versions each, which is similar to how they handled Universal gear. Whether the difference is just different dye options or it really is gendered is something we won’t know for sure until we try them on at the Trophy Crystal shop…
Hope springs eternal! lol
I'd like to speak in support and hopefulness that this gear has the universal options like they introduced in previous pvp gear so we can mix and match for better glams. While it's not in game yet I am a bit hmm as seeing the differences already.
Genderlocking is a bit weird to me, as the more options we have the better it would be for everyone. Cause honestly glamour really is endgame for most.
And also, wow slacks for male characters again, how riveting. If they are going to continue to give slacks, I hope they'd put some interesting pattern/designs on the legs instead of just changing how the button/belts look since half of those are hidden under tops etc.
Those pants look absolutely horrendous, it's like shorts plus someone cutting off 3/4ths off fishing pants flyfishers use and attaching them on the legs. Who are these for?
Genderlocking is when a full set of gear is exclusive to a single in game gender, not when the appearance is separate between them.
How do people continually get this wrong every single time? Its disappointing they keep doing it, but please stop using improper terminology.
Have they at any point addressed travesty that is the hiding of Miqo'te ears, or is that just going to continue being a thing going forward?
I don't understand. Why were head pieces able to accommodate Miqo'te ears back in the day, but now the outfit designers suddenly can't do it anymore? It doesn't make sense.
