they don't, its the same for everyone

Wah, wah, i cant MT.
You can Mt, provided you outdps me. You are not making everything harder for everyone (healer especially) because your ego commands you to be the MT, if i have higher item level than you i will always MT just as when i find someone with better gear than me i let them MT. Its this easy. Also provoke should never be used unless you have a mandatory tankswap mechanic wich....doesnt exist in any casual content because EVERYONE and ANYONE must be able to do this no matter how braincells they might have left as you clearly demonstrated. This game is way too forgiving with clueless people and toxic positivity is RUINING it. I had a THAUMATURGE in a lv 100 dungeon last night, when will it be enough?
The only other acceptable times to do provoke is to adjust wonky boss positioning so melees can do their thing, and of course annoy the provoke spammers :P
I truly don't understand why they didn't add a note in the novice hall like "Hey this skill here, don't spam it, it's not an attack, don't rip aggro unless you're in a position to tank this mob" because wow, some sprouts out there are out on a mission to make us miss every single positional LOL and we don't have many left!
they did not revoke mentorship. If u violate the ToS, u get banned/suspended/warned. If u kick some one with no reason from NN chat - u get a penalty if the person reports u, because its a part of ToS. Same for everything else. If its against ToS - u get a penalty, if its not tos, u don't. Mentor does not add anything.
Just because YOU think it's part of etiquette for a mentor to acquiesce to a sprout, and abandon all their own wants, does not mean that it is. You won't get suspended nor a warning for not saying "sure go for it." If a mentor really wants to tank that day, but they get only sprouts on their first time, they HAVE TO give it up? It's NICE if they do, but not mandatory, especially for someone this entitled.
Or .. If you have specific conditions and needs like this that no one else agrees to upon queueing up, then use the party finder. If it means to you this much, why risk getting someone that won't let you play out your main character fantasy?
This here is the problem. People expect mentors to be this subclass that is supposed to just cuck out and make sure that others have the best possible time while ignoring their own wants. Newsflash, people who are mentors also play this game to have fun. If YOU want to change the mentor status to be that, then lobby for it. Mentors are just chill ppl that give advice.
What actually changes? The sprout still doesn't get to tank. You know what the mentor should do? They should advice them how to use the party finder for next time. :)
I'm sorry, where is THAT listed again that a mentor is supposed to take a backseat and forsake their own gameplay desires? Etiquette =//= Sacrifice own gameplay desires. You can argue it as much as you want, but until I see people getting suspended for MTing when a sprout asks to MT, then nope.
Who's post is this is again that's crying about mentors not being their personal retainers? I've no issue with letting sprouts tank, I don't gain anything from tanking a boss, but I also don't think I am EXPECTED to do that. I'm disagreeing on principle of what mentors are expected to do. Like, just on principle, you have no issue if a non-mentor "ruins" a sprout's first time, but you do if it's a mentor?? Sounds like mentor racism /s
This is something only non-mentors say. Mentor status means nothing due to how easy it is to acquire. I'll put on my Mentor of Mentors title for you, though, since mentors like me seem to upset you so much.
FINALLY SOMETHING WE CAN AGREE ON
Mentor is mainly there to speed up queues for dead content. Don't expect anything from them, most are useless who have just played the game longer. NN is a complete mess, my advice is to leave it instantly.
That's mentor roulette that's for speeding up queues, and most mentors don't have mentor roulette unlocked, because it means they have to do content.
NN seems pretty fine from what I've seen on crystal, people answer questions whenever people asked and otherwise just talk to keep it active and not seem like a dead channel.
It's pointless trying to talk to someone like you. You close your eyes and cover your ears screaming "lalalalalala" because you don't like what another person has posted.
Answer me if you can be bothered to open your eyes. What does "Be an exemplar for player etiquette" mean to you? Because just being polite doesn't mean shit when everyone else is polite to. Oh wait guess what? Non mentors give advice too. The whole point of being a god damn mentor is go ABOVE AND BEYOND what the average / normal player would do. So yes that means allowing a someone who is going into a new boss for the FIRST TIME the chance to tank it.
Honestly it's so annoying trying to get it into your mind that I'm not demanding I tank all the time only to be given the chance to MT the boss when it's my first ever time doing it. Especially when the content has been out for a while meaning anyone who has wanted to tank it has done so by now.
God you must be horrible to talk to in the real world. Anyone says anything you don't like and you just shut then down without even listening to their point of view.
i m a mentor who help out ppl as much as i can however i'll tell u one thing, a lot of randoms shit on mentors in chat if u try to teach ppl since they think mentors are elitist and they wanna learn on their own, so most mentors stay quiet unless ppl type in chat for advice and help
also regarding tanking, i mainly tank, and even among randoms u will find ppl spamming provoke with stance on battling to get aggro of boss because being MT is fun and makes u main character lol, but ultimately most mentors just wanna keep aggro to safely carry the party to victory and get the job done rather than letting a sprout with barely any gear do the hard lifting, but it really doesnt matter in normal raids or trials since its super easy (made for babies), so ultimately nobody cares or gives a damn who has aggro, i myself leave the stance on and if the other tank provokes i just let them be and get the duty done asap, cause as someone said already in this thread most mentors are just trying to duty completion asap for the mount achievement
also if ur gear suk as a tank while the other tank has good gear and drk/gnb, then even without provoke they will steal aggro from boss if they have stance on
"Be an exemplar for player etiquette" is such an arbitrary term, though. Ask 1,000 players, you may get 1,000 different answers. In light/full parties situation, they are easily warped into "majority rules".
Maybe if SE actually stop treating their playerbase as if everybody born and live in JP, then they can start seeing how the regulation won't always be received flawlessly.
