Forum doomers exist everywhere and you cant please everyone but ill counter with this. Story this last patch was shit on the ptr and it was flamed. What did blizzard do? Fixed it for live release and its actually pretty good. m+ was absolute garbage in season 1 that required you to have the gear from the content it dropped to be able to reliably clear. What did blizzard do? They rescaled the entirety of m+ for season 2 and its actually really well received with their announcements for season 3 met with the excitement of the majority of the community. The only people really complaining now are the ones upset the vault drop mythic piece is no longer tied to one of the hardest scales so their parses are more competitive. Another one you didn't mention is healers. Healers in season 1 were underpowered for the incoming damage and the majority of the player base was upset. So this season healers feel good and can reliably heal content. Now in contrast what did xiv do when asked about the forked tower debacle? Bandaids and its too expensive to fix. While wows not perfect and it has its issue i'd argue the grass is greener over there on merit of tangible evidence of improvement. Going from shadowlands where we didn't have talent trees or class expression, character bound grinds, and content designed only to keep players logged in as long as possible to where we are now is an amazing improvement.
Pretty much. Shadowlands was absolute garbage and desrved to have the playerbase cleave that it did. Bobby Kodek was a horrible game lead and deserved to get canned. I'm just glad the wow community isn't going on a crusade against xiv players trying out their game like what we experienced here, egged on by one of the major xiv streamers. Never have I seen such hate to warrant doxxing over trying out a game before.
WoW actually fixed their game and made it better, that's why it has the amount of players it has today (Which btw is far more than FFXIV's considering the absolute skydive in player population)
SE could never, they'd rather see the game die (again) than to improve it, which is sad really.
I love both games, but FFXIV has gone completely stale, the recipe has been used a million times and it's just getting really old.
I play WoW too on and off, but mostly Classic. I really don't like current retail. The gameplay loop is way too fast, sweaty even. There are like a million different systems at max level, weird Trinkets and rings, some legendary item that you need to farm and upgrade and gimmicks like that. I last played reatail seriously in Shadowlands, and when I returned in TWW I felt like I was playing a new game, so many different new systems, WoW really hates evergreen features. I also don't like the community, nobody ever greets. I hate and love things about bpth games.
If XIV could take the best things from WoW and build it into the game, this would be my forever MMO.
Games like Pokémon and Prison Architect aren’t visually stunning either, but they still offer brilliant gameplay and creativity
Graphics aren’t the be-all and end-all for me when it comes to games. One of my favourite ways to relax before bed is playing RimWorld, and it’s far from visually impressive. What it lacks in looks, it more than makes up for in depth and atmosphere.
If you think WoW is better you're sleeping on a active nuclear reactor.
And I don't really care how bad the state of FF14 gets I'd rather cut my head off with nail clippers than play Modern WoW. Or pay for their Classic to prop up a version of the Game I hate.
what a great argument as to why/how FFXIV is better than wow lmao
"i dont like the game so you better not like it too, it sucks i tell you, how dare you have fun somewhere else ? You will keep doing your roulettes and get earrings from mogtome events and you will like it !"
Oh, maybe the grass is indeed greener over there. I have no idea what's currently going on, I just check their forums every now and then, for the laughs only. Personally I don't believe the praise, over the years I've seen so much of their monkey paw solutions, I'm just sick and tired of nuBlizz.
But guess what? Even if I don't believe that anything changed over there, I sincerely hope it does - and that they light a huge fire under SE's lazy bottom. Just like SE did, when nuBlizz followed a bad expansion (BfA) with a catastrophically bad one (SL).
I'm just waiting for housing to drop or be in sight, before doing the same.
Recently I saw a video on YouTube where someone commented on a talk the lead developer of WoW gave. That dev? He talked about lots of things they did wrong with WoW. How the team always tried to build the same WoW-experience over and over again, streamlining and optimizing that experience, because it worked in the past so it will work in the future too. Well? That's not how it goes, and the only thing that leads to is staleness, players being treated as numbers on a spread sheet, and systems becoming what designers want instead of what players want.
Once they realized that, their game and design philisophy began to change. And it shows. The game is much much better now, and showing no signs of getting worse.
FFXIV is currently in that staleness phase, and I'll be looking forward to seeing how long it will take them to figure it out.
A lot of that talk was relevant to FFXIV. Whenever he talks about things, you can actually compare it to a similar (current or past) issue in FFXIV. Even down to things like inventory or spaghetti code issues. Internally, they've had pretty much all the same problems at one point or another.
It's almost like they swap problems and the problems inevitably come back over time like a boomerang.
This one:
Gilded Brutosaur.
Aren't most of your posts whining about the state of the game?
Buddy - lmao shut up
Anyways like I said people can play whatever they like but even with DT being in its Meh state people making contrarian takes like WoW is somehow better in its current state is just wrong. M+ is about the only thing WoW has that's good but you can also just play PoE or something that has way better gameplay and systems instead.
Cool—personally I wouldn’t pay that much, but obviously some people will. That said, like I mentioned in another thread, WoW released 28 mounts with their expansion launch and even gives players a chance to earn former cash shop mounts just by playing the game. Like I said earlier pull your s*** together SE
Yep thank goodness we have no hamster wheels here!
btw new patch drops soon, be sure to save enough of your hard earned gold to buy crafted gear and enough materia to pentameld to get you started, since no one is obviously buying from those gold sellers that advertise constantly (no idea why they bother since no one here in this game ever buys gold), because the gear you just collected needs to be upgraded before doing the new stuff, and all the currency you have to buy savage gear from the previous patches and the upgrade items for other gear are now just as worthless as all that gear you spent so much time farming. So jump on your Lunar Whale in your best belted leather glam boys and get ready cause after the 24 man raid you are going to fate farm in this new zone and like it.
OP missed the part about the story and all those cinematic cutscenes. Here, let me fix that:

Hey it's cool, we have that too!

At least ours looks better than a 2010 fan machinima
I think that’s part of the problem—more and more players are spending time in other games, especially other MMOs. It’s easy to say 'just go play something else,' but when people start investing their subscription and time into those other games, how likely are they to come back? You’re not just losing their attention, you're potentially losing them for good.
How about instead of "fixing" a cinematic, SE focuses on keeping its players, we are currently at 14100 users on steam which shows an overall trend easy to understand through all platforms, it's lowest since 2020.
But please do keep focusing on cinematics, clearly it's working great. Who needs gameplay and content when you can just watch a visual novel.
Meanwhile WoW's population keeps going up thanks to the game devs actually improving the game instead of giving up entirely like SE has been doing for quite a while now.
Yay we have pretty cutscenes and a shite story *slowclap" Now go get me a taco and don't forget the ice cream...
The story’s meant to be the main focus in FFXIV, but in this expansion it’s shockingly poor—and because of that, you start noticing just how repetitive and stale everything else feels. Over in WoW, the story is hilariously bad, but at least it’s so over-the-top that it becomes entertaining. The voice acting sounds like when my kids make up voices for their toys, but weirdly enough, it fits the comic book vibe. I mean, if you grew up in the ‘80s, that kind of cheesy nonsense is part of the charm—it’s so bad, it’s good.
Sorry dude atm i'm not seeing your take.
Honestly, I’d be more concerned about the people who aren’t posting their concerns or opinions about FFXIV than the ones who are openly sharing what they don’t like on the forums. Plenty of long-time players in my FC—people who’ve been around for years—have just quietly disappeared. No feedback, no complaints, just gone. That kind of silence says more than any forum post ever could
Not heard about the cutscene that Kunzite mentioned, but apparently it's a minor patch fight. Here's how the others look in the current expansion https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4AgvDK5IczU
I unironically believe that the way WoW handles alts these days is better then the FF14 method of having it all on one character. Leveling the alt and getting them to the entry point for doing dungeons and such is incredibly easy, and then you can actually gear multiple alts at once. Reason being each alt has a different raid lockout and things of that nature, whereas in FF14 you can ONLY actively gear one job at a time until that job is capped out.
Its one reason why greed is actually pressed in wow. In xiv after a raid most people just need everything making it harder to gear your main since everyones just thinking about their other jobs. I've lost count of the number of times this season alone that after a mythic we stuck around to trade gear drops to each other. Even in raid most people only roll on actual upgrades. Since you don't have the option to gain from screwing others the games got a culture of helping others gear. Well as long as you avoid streamer communities. Those are all cesspits.
That is not a hot take, ffxiv is a slog on alts. As what your leaving out is the mandatory msq quests, the 6 mandatory crystal tower quests, and the 3 mandatory hard version fights of titan and garuda and ifrit. If WoW players had to go through that, I think it would be a different story of being "alt-friendly".
Like with speedruns of just trying to blitz through all of 2.0 to 2.55 of ARR, that is still like 20 hours on a healer.
