Personally I think it should be slightly cheaper to upgrade just because you’re NOT getting the land to go with it! Housing is paid by plot size, and then you have a permit fee to build the house. Not sure what they’re planning, but I would hope it’s more along the lines of the permit price: call it a remodeling permit. At any rate, this feature is something they said they’re working on but hasn’t been given a definite timeline. It’s the item increase we’re hoping hits in 7.3, unless they’re really going to surprise us in the next LL.

As far as making Gil, I struggle with that myself… you just have to find the things that people are willing to pay a lot for. Selling the stuff my retainers bring me doesn’t net me a lot, but OC has been good. Most of the things you get from chests are so cheap on the mb now it’s not even funny. But if you’re lucky, you’ll get multiple copies of the new emote, which still sells well because it’s a rarer drop, and fortune carrots. I quickly learned that most fortune carrots only got me a couple materia and some fireworks, so they’re not worth it to me. But there’s an achievement for using a lot of them (1k I think?) so they go for almost 2 mil a piece on the mb. Gold farming will not only give you more gold to buy glams to keep or sell (also about a mil per piece), but also helps your chests respawn faster so hopefully you get more carrots to sell, and the vendor trash crystals for 1k a piece. Just got to 60 mil, so it’s modest, but it helps. Also rare drops from treasure dungeons: the 2 minions from the Elpis map can be almost 100 mil on some servers! Or if you like to hunt, but the mount vouchers and sell those for about 100k a pop.

Simply doing the MSQ gives you millions of gil, but beyond that you can sell crafted items, gathered items, materia on patches with new raid/crafted sets, tomestone materials, bicolor gemstone items, buy and flip marketboard items, do treasure maps, and the list goes on. You can make tons of gil in this game with little effort.

If you want to get ahead of the game, next patch there should be new crafting/gathering sets so if you're not in a position to actually craft those sets you could start hoarding crafting/gathering materia and prepare your gathering jobs to gather the materials other people will need. I don't know if they'll use tomestone mats or not but if they do you can make a killing selling those as well while the demand is there. Just do your roulettes every day to get the currency to buy them.

Some people have already given you great tips. You can find even more advice on youtube and other places.
If you are in an FC you manage, submarines are a good way of making gil passively and without MB interference once you set it up. Expect the setup to take at least about 6 months, but once it's working at full capacity, you only have to pop into the workshop every other day to press a few buttons and retrieve your money :P people love to look down on others for telling you this advice, but if it's an option to you then it'd be silly not to use it. If you want to make even more money, go for housing exteriors. But that takes MUCH more work than going the jewelry route.


When the unreal market was doing very well back before DT, my friends and I made a collective 350M just by selling the stuff you can buy with the faux leaves and supplementing it with submarine management. We made that amount because we wanted an FC mansion (which we got, because Phantom is a ghost town and no one bid for our mansion except us lol)


I don't do any crafting or gathering, but doing some market research and staying on top of trends can net you a lot of gil. If you want to make insane amounts of gil and do it quickly, it'll take more work. If you don't mind building your way up there slowly, I bought my 20M medium just from roulette money. Make sure you always go as adventurer in need if you can help it, since it'll give you a little extra. Desynth all of the gear and drops you find and sell the raw materials. If you do extremes, desynth the weapons since you can get lucky and sell stuff like the Hydaelyn crystals that got much more expensive than they used to be when the glowy weapons released. Believe it or not, since Variant is dead content, anything that comes from that can get expensive simply because there aren't many people who do it anymore. You can solo it easily.


I exclusively do battle content, so my advice is limited to that. I'm not saying the players who are poor are because they want to, but some of you need to stop getting scammed buying glam off the MB lol GamerEscape, GarlandTools and crafting your own stuff is your best friend. You can still get everything you want for much cheaper if you aren't completely against inconveniencing yourself to get it crafted. If you can't craft it, always check Universalis to find the cheapest price and get that.
You can also save up on teleports by buying Aetheryte Tickets from doing hunts or getting a -15% teleport fee buff scroll from telling your squadron to go do stuff once a week. That's the equivalent of a Rank 3 FC buff, with the caveat that it isn't a 24hr buff.



There's also another thing to consider: XIV had much more expensive housing in the past, and it was meant to be used as a way to entice Legacy players to spend their 1.0 fortune and hopefully put them closer to an equal level with the 2.0 gang. It was a long time ago, but I feel like it's worth mentioning because that is everything housing is; a gil sink and a status symbol. Whether we think decorating anything bigger than an apartment is locked behind this is unfair is another topic, but housing was always designed to be a gil sink for those who can afford it. The good thing is that making gil has become leagues better than it used to be (and housing has become much cheaper since back then, go check out the original prices if you want a jumpscare) from what I've heard.

I hope you find a comfortable way to make the gil you need. It might be a good idea to let us know what kind of content you usually do, so that people who are familiar with it can give you more tailored advice.

Instanced probably never happening, SE is keen on keeping the neighbourhood housing system in their game. Most we can expect from them are more wards/new residential districts.

It was never about every player having a house. Wards/districts are exclusive for a reason. It makes people want them more, but more specifically it makes people not want to give them up once they have them and hence stay subscribed.

Same problem, I have now been trying for ONE FULL YEAR to get an individual house and a FC house, can't get either and being for almost 3/4's of that time the demo's were off with over 200 people bidding on maybe 4 open houses and that's each house not total but yet all I hear from Square is complaints of losing players and yet nobody seems to be able to get a house so maybe add more houses or at least 2 more housing zones. An under water housing area would be great or a moon one!! instead of trying to to add things to the current housing which is not enough ADD new zones to help out.

First I applaud the tardis system; Many players want a bigger home; done. I feel this is going to be the "bait and switch" with folks asking for higher item limits "well a small becoming a large adds 200 slots; so I gave you what you wanted!" but I am still waiting for that shoe to drop - they might increase larges to 500-600 perhaps but leave smalls 200 and meds to 400.

As for the dimensions issue I think its moot because many of the best designs compress the space to make the house look less like a furniture showroom.

As for the fear that all the smalls will disappear.

Thats because the groups and FCs aren't bidding on them; literally folks are constantly passing over the smalls and its "medium or nothing" mindset that frankly shows how entitled folks been acting.

I need more slots, double would be ideal since I'm actually using all of the space in my home in LB but with the current limit (400), I only decorated the main and upper floor. I hope to decorate the basement and also add more detail to the main and upper floor when the expanded furnishing limit arrives.


Yeah, I agree but now that smalls will be allowed to have the space of a large inside soon, I'd say that will entice more people and FC's to get a small plot.

YES THAT'S fair, totally fair opportunity for everyone to just start over fuck the 10 years they spent on one server the friends and memories they made there don't matter because they want a house so they have to give up all that even though they've spent $15 a month for 10 years just on subscriptions not even counting cosmetics, dyes, emotes and other mogstation items, they don't deserve or have the right to complain that they can't get a house they have to just suck it up and move.

I agree moving your main can be extreme... specially to a DC known for struggling to pop daily roulettes. What you could try instead, if you have the time and you feel like it, is make an alt in a server you can check for availability beforehand. You don't even have to boost it if you don't want to shell out the money since ARR is fairly quick to get through and the Grand Company stuff practically gets itself done if you spam Leveling roulette as adventurer in need. That should hopefully alleviate the roulette wait times as well.


It's not ideal since of course you'd rather have the house on your main, but it can tide you over and keep you entertained while you still participate in lotteries on your main. I personally just moved my main to a less populated server and had pretty decent luck scoring my dream plot, but EU is also only two DCs and we don't have the problems Dynamis or OCE has. I also had to participate in the lottery multiple times, wanted to give up, etc. I don't know how big Behemoth is, but I assume investing in a small alt and having a friend help you trade furniture and gil for you to play with in the meantime will be more worth than sitting homeless until you win a lottery.


The good thing is that if you win on your main then great! You have two houses to play with now. Don't want two houses? You can let go of the alt's house once you get your main's, and forget about the alt until you need it again for any reason.

I also encourage people to do this since I did it when Seraph/Dynamis first went live. My main alt was sent to Seraph when it first opened up and I had a zero bid large in Goblet to play it safe that I won. Then a few months later, I won out of 45 people my dream plot in Shiro I wanted since Shiro came out. That made my housing issues much more bearable since my og main in Exodus went 7 years trying to get her plot. In the year and a half after my main alt won her plot in Seraph, my og main in Exodus won hers out of over 250 bids but the wait was far more bearable since I was able to enjoy housing and now I own two personal larges for both my mains :3

I was much more picky with it and decided to only participate in a singular plot's lottery whenever it showed up lol I ended up winning it around Christmas and it's been my dream plot since I was a sprout. The only way they'd make me move out of there is if the subdivision cleared up because the sun's rotation is nicer there and the weird bugged leaf shadows wouldn't plague my garden anymore :'D

This holding back trend is just not okay. Some people talk like "the next patch or the patch after!" is not a long time. This is 4-8 months. It might be longer if they decide to postpone again. Now the furniture increase is the one people are getting confused with, as that has been getting pushed back through the patches.

What plot did you win? It sounds like a plot in LB with you describing the leaf shadows bug. I wish they would take the ugly bark surrounding my home's plot there that blocks the waterfall in front of my home.

It is a Lavender Beds Plot 11, yes! The bark isn't as obnoxious on that one but since DT dropped, this one tree that used to cast a lovely gentle dappled light on my garden has become Roegadyn-sized, mega crisp leaf shadows even though the tree is out there in the middle of the lake lol it's so terrible...! I reported it as a bug but it went nowhere as far as I'm aware... Moving to Plot 41 would place the shadows on the lake instead, so while I am attached to my plot I might still keep an eye out and move if I get lucky.

Oof, yeah, that large is so unfortunate with the fort of bark around the plot. I highly doubt they'd remove it since it feels like the whole point is that the houses were built into hallowed out tree stumps, but I feel like they didn't quite nail the vibe... specially because the trees are awkwardly square-shaped due to the plots being squares lol

My biggest grips with people suggesting it is not just a simple go over and test it out, we're talking 16m just for a plot, 60M in items some unobtainable / non tradable that only my main has, and to share an estate for someone to give said items will run easily 30+m per item

I only have 90m in total across all characters and I need to get a FC house and furnish it on my main not play on an alt of some other server and spend all my gil there and then what, try to convince my FC to all transfer over there? I really can't justify that, I would also be loosing the prestige of having an FC that I created myself back in 01/01/2016.

As we said before... this mostly just applies to personal and to keep yourself entertained while you try to land the house you want in your home world. You don't have to do anything you don't wanna, it was just a suggestion from someone who had it work out for them (Rinoa)

I get that the idea is just to keep entertained while waiting for a house on my main, but the gil cost involved makes it really hard to justify. I'd be pouring millions into a temporary setup with zero long-term return, especially when a lot of housing items are untradeable or locked behind grinds like Shared FATEs and reputation, which I'd have to repeat from scratch. That alone is a huge time sink.

Even the manual trading part gets messy and expensive. You're paying premiums to strangers just to recreate what you already have, and that doesn’t even touch the cost of building the house itself. Transferring gil and items from my main to an alt on another data center just feels like throwing resources into the void.

Plus, I'd be giving up progress, emotes, glamours, and achievements tied to my main, just to play house on an alt I won't stick with. And I still have plans for an FC house on my main, which I need to furnish and manage. My funds aren't infinite, and I built my FC from scratch back in 2016. There's history there, and prestige I don't want to let go of.

So yeah, from my perspective, this sort of workaround feels more like a money sink than a meaningful solution.

Fair enough! To me, an alt is always useful, so I didn't consider that. Hope you get your house soon!

I don't believe it's coming in 7.4, I don't believe it's coming in 8.0-he's just going to lick his wounds over WoW totalling his career, and keep pushing back doing anything new because he's too scared and everythings too hard. Wah wah, need more time. Too hard. Doing anything for xiv too hard. Please understand, too hard. btw here's 10 other games!!! All with state of the art top of the line-but xiv too hard. Wah wah. Please keep sub, but play other games for now. Its taking a long time, ok let's have more Primal concerts!! Uhmm lets not talk about Fanfest yet ok...devs are working on it, please understand and wait. Let's demonstrate step by step how to water plants in a xiv garden. Best hour of your life.

All I want is more furniture slots and to rotate, resize furniture however we want just like in wow housing. Currently if you want a cute house you either have to hire someone for gil or spend hours upon hours just to glitch something the way you want it.

Yeah I wish we had more housing slots honestly for every house size.
I would like to decorate again but the effort is a bit much so I do not mind paying someone to do that for me, but it does seem to be a headache with these very basic placement controls with tough restrictions that designers have to fight over to create more interesting designs.

We never even got the increase in slots I was expecting in 7.1.

I was so convinced that we were getting item increases back in 7.1 or 7.2 that I went wild with my architectural designs figuring I'd have PLENTY of slots later to fill in the furnishings. NOPE! I understand they've had optimization issues and Server-kun will get angry if there's too much, but be for real guys... if it's THAT much of an issue then UPGRADE THE HARDWARE! I know, I KNOW, it's not that simple, but if the stated reason for the delay is the hardware is wheezing, then get hardware that won't wheeze over the increased load! Then repurpose the current servers into something useful like separating workshops from housing so the gil sellers get out of the housing wards.

I'm looking forward to the updates, especially for outside, I'll be grabbing a forest worth of the new cherry trees from the upcoming Little Ladies Day event to be ready :)
