Potential Housing Crisis Fix (Includes ability for permanent Housing (Sm, Med, Lrg)

Because, housing doesn't have the pull at players think it does.

When you see full wards of houses that don't get demolished but it's also empty. The players are there and they're logging in but they're not visiting their own wards.

Outside of the dedicated minority, Housing has a shelf life. Once players usually decorated and are satisfied.They really don't come back because there's no reason to.

I get the s intimate but I don't see the reason to rework a system that is not going to pay off. The player script can screen that it will but their actions as it stands prove otherwise. Limbs is where the players like to sit around.They want to interact with each other.They don't want to sit in the housing unit isolated from everyone else.

They can say that but that's not what they want. But human nature doesn't lie. And the fact that most players rather spend their time in Limsa then a housing instance speaks volumes for the validity of reworking a system. When current player habits already support that that's not gonna change anything.. Because they're still gonna spend most of their time in limsa and not in the housing ward.


So why change the system when the players are going to fall right back into the current habits.

If you don't believe me walk into limsa and then walk into any housing ward and then walk into most of these apartments lists. It will be overwhelmingly vacant compared to the major cities.

It's like saying you know you need to spend a hundred dollars to fix an issue but then by the end of that a hundred dollars you still have the exact same issue. Housing units are still going to be empty because players are not wanting to sit in an isolated instance so they will go where the other players are.

You fixed the problem but you also have the exact same problem you still suffered from. Players are still primarily gonna hang in hub an not the housing area. The problem is fixed but nothing financially was gained. In fact they might subs since players can quit without needing to upkeep their plots.

Honestly, this suggested S9 apartment thing just sounds like a band aid on a broken system. If they're going to put in a big chunk of effort into housing ever again, they should just do away with wards and let people buy a permanent instanced house where they choose the scenery.
A group of people could then create their own instanced ward/neighbourhood to hang out in and at their own discretion, decide if they want to show others via some new "see all visible wards/houses" interface, which would also let people put in a description and add tags.

Changing the housing system is literally going to do nothing.

The players are gonna have their fun for 5 minutes and then move on.

I spend a lot of my time in the housing ward.

Most people don't want to do that.They find it isolating. Have you ever scrolled through the housing ward and just checked in random houses and find them empty the majority of the time?

An instant system is going to be the same. Except you paid money to get the same result to make a couple of people happy, when the money is better spent on literally anything else that draws players to the game or improve something.

I hear a lot of people say star wars galaxy has the best housing. But I don't see anyone here plyaying star wars galaxy.. It seems legendary for it's housing. But it seems housing doesn't pay the bills. Now rework a system that cost money but doesn't have a RoI.

That's kind of what I'm getting at. Like you say, a lot of people will engage with the system at first and then leave it alone, not wanting to be too isolated. Housing can be isolating for a myriad of reasons, most of them probably stemming from a lack of good ways to fuel social interaction, FOMO empty house purchases "just in case", as well as unwillingness to engage if you might end up losing it.

Which is why if they were to remake it, they would have to make it work socially as well.

Player-driven neighbourhoods so you can get yourself set up to like-minded people and/or friends, where you know people will be active.

A tool where players can "advertise" their house/neighbourhood for hanging out as well as purposes for the hang out. Just having a fun chat? Creating a roleplaying area? Some other interesting event? All available in a tool with tagging so you can sort out things you aren't interested in.

I'm aware it'd be a huge undertaking for the FF team, and I don't have any big hopes of it happening. However, what I am saying is, regardless of what they do, if they were to remake the housing system it cannot be an isolated experience, it has to come with helpful tools to socialise with other people.

Heck, they could just implement the tool separately and see where that leads them. Best case, more housing engagement. Worst case, plenty of players have a tool to find other people to hang out with for whatever they want to do.

they could just use the Island Content and allow us to build a house on that, just make it so your island needs to be at a certain point to be able to build the house.

means they get abit of content thats hardly used made viable, people wanting a house can get one with abit of work and not spend months hoping to win the lottery.

Island Sanctuary is just a variation of WoW Barrack (fixed customization of layout) and that is why there is no restriction on ownership
Even if they let you build a house, it would be an universal one (where you cant customize garden) as an entrance link to a apartment like space.
Why would they doing that when there is already an apartment?
If you are talking about apply same customize housing on the island, why not just release more plot ward instead (probably less demanding on server)
The whole reason of limitation on number of ward is because it need to be load with servers to begin with

To be fair you can actually decorate your island with outdoor furniture that was meant for a house so as long as they provided different skins for us to pick and allowing anyone to come see your island/house that would be viable

It is variation of WoW Barrack where server only need to instance with different combination of sliders in direct comparison to Plot Ward's free decoration yard.
Player would get a door lead into a instance Apartment alike inner space.
Again, what is the point?
Might as well jut ask for expansion on Apartment dimensions.

If you are going to say let island to have exactly same outside decoration like plot ward; then why not just ask more plot ward instead
Again, whole reason why we have limited plot ward is because server can't handle it

It's a wonderful idea and if they can do this with Solution 9 housing then they can absolutely do this with the apartments already in the game, and I for one would gladly upgrade my apartment to the equivalent of a penthouse with a large rooftop garden and maybe even a pool I could swim in. I would probably also move...

Because they’re all different. While some might prefer one type of housing to another, others like myself will use every option available to us. More options are always a good thing!

If some people choose to give up ward housing for something like this, that means less competition in the wards for the limited amount of plots. Same if they would actually create a straight up instanced plot, or add a plot to the Island or the Moon. Some people will always prefer some options over others, while some will choose to utilize all of them.

All that means is you successfully created a replica of housing while sidestepping for all be drawbacks to it.

Again?I know what it is because it benefits me. When it creates jank in the housing system.Because now you have players who have to stay up to keep their plot.But then other people who don't. And the players who don't have the sums plot are bigger than those who are required to keep a sub to maintain it.


This solution works for you guys is because you get what you want.And whatever jank is created from that you guys are really indifferent to.


If you guys want to plot there are plots around, but you guys don't want to go to these plots.And that's your prerogative, but when there are players who have multiple accounts who decides to go to these areas to buy, the plots that players actively will avoid.Then that's on them.

This may not be your ideal housing situation.But I don't think it's as bad as the player said, is because even the players themselves don't want to hang out in that ward or their own plot.

But i'm sure as size is watching what world of warcraft does see how the players react to it. And if we get some traction i'm sure they'll try to do some improvements. But if player activity drops off quick, I think they're just gonna go back to business a usual

1. Give current house a choice to freely move to instant house

2. Turn Apartment into instant house with outdoor funtions and expandable to M and L size house equivalent

3. Those prefer "Neighbour" stay in the ward system, the rest can have a personal house function just as like ward house but without neighbour. Problem solved. But we all know SE wont do it. Since I bet most ward house owner will go for instant house, and SE would lose out a big chuck of income

So basically two of the same systems and one with an arbitrary demolished timer one without.

It would make.
More sense to permanently shut off the demolition timer system in that case

But that will mean anybody who currently has a plot is now a permanent fixture in the game. And anyone else from whenever they shut it off cannot have a "ward plot" and to some that'll be unfair.

I have a plot in the Mist until ShB, I log off in my plot everyday and I have only see anthoer players less than 5 times, we never talk to each other.
ward plot proven to be a terrible idea, there will never be enough for the demand unless someone willing to give up the convenience and migrate to low pop servers
I bet most would rather go for instant housing than no ward plot or keep jumping back and forth between homeworld and other server just to play with friends/FC and access their retainer.

Word plots aren't a terrible idea.I think they're great. The issue is, it needs the players to make it feel like a neighborhood. And given most wards are full on primal but it's rare to find players there compared to a major city hub. Because the city's act as a social hubs

But if you won't square to change how they approach the system, unsubscribe.

If players avoided the housing system while complaining about it it would give Square pause. But that's not what's happening.Players are complaining about it, While keeping your subscriptions active to not lose it. I myself have been here for about 8 years and my sub hasn't lapsed.

I mean they can take a break at any time if I feel like it. It just acts of you to log in once every month and a week.

You can take a break you just log in once every month and a week. It's 3 minutes to login and all you're gotta do is walk inside and logout.

But you guys want to take six months breaks. And not need to subscribe it all to maintain your house. But given this is the capitalist accompanying.I don't see why they would want you to. You're not liking it doesn't override the profit motive to leave it as is

I'm fortunate enough to have inherited a cottage from when my FC had to scrape together Gil to buy one. I love decorating and redecorating. It's activity that has kept me in the game.

I enjoy having the creative outlet that is housing. I love seeing creativity that others are willing to share. I don't have issue with allowing more people that experience.

Good, they have apartments, those are super cheap and dont require lottery, it's the instanced housing people are asking for.

But as to your question, no you are not owed apartments either, because the game has ultimates doesnt mean I am owed a spot in an ultimate static.

Paying for game content and getting absolutely nothing would be quite charitable. But I'll be reasonable and assume that's not what you actually meant. I understand that there is a lot of luck and a bit of tact that must go into earning anything in this game but as with all things meant to be sustainable, this has to be within reason.

I'll admit that I was very lucky to have inherited my cottage. That being said, I've also been playing since 2014, have 10 digit figure in terms of gil and bidding since 2019 without success. There has to be some middle ground between having a one room hab-unit and something more. Finally, I don't think it unreasonable to make suggestions for something better from a service I'm paying for anyway.

I agree and I would be ok with removing Gil farming from FC plots since I use my FC for my alts to share a home. If only they allowed all of our characters to use our personal plots, I would even consider letting go of my FC plot if they remove Gil farming and create a chest similar to the FC chest you can use for all of your characters to share things with. They should just let our alts create their own bedrooms to use that would be the same as FC rooms in our personal homes.

When there is over 280 people bidding on mediums on Behemoth and if only 1 medium is available the bids litterally get above 200. having alternate options, CHOICE is not a bad thing. Stop being a salty person and just accept the fact that having choice is not a bad thing, don't try to paint choice as a bad thing because 'it side steps the drawbacks' because it gives choice, if you want a PHYSICAL location that is in a ward you agree to the terms of auto demolition, you ACTIVELY make that choice to commit to maintaining it, but those of us who have spent $1000's of dollars in this game and have been trying for years to get a house for their FC not even a large just a medium and because it's 200+ people bidding even if I have multiple members of my FC bidding it just does not matter even when there was 6 mediums available 2 bid sessions ago it was even 50+ bids per house that's 300 bidders across 6 mediums there needs to be more choice, having permanent houses even if its just making apartments able to be resizable to house sizes or adding condo areas for players and FCs to buy, does not detract from Wards, it doesn't side step anything, it gives choice.

Am I really gatekeeping you? When I didn't start with anything either? I play the game just as you did and luck into my plots, but I did what I could to increase my own odds.and looked for what players didn't want. I didn't look for a medium or a large, too much competition, I looked for the smalls the players overlooked for the bigger plots.

If apartments are so bad , why do I have five of them?

If they were bad I shouldn't have anything outside of a storage unit right? You are welcomed to come by and take a look yourself.

I really like housing..My interest in the system isn't contingent on the size of the space, but the ability to access a space.

I spent most of my time in the housing ward. So why are my takes so problematic to you?

Why when I walk around most of the ward houses are empty. And I look at the apartments and it's typically plenty of open housing units.

But when I go to a major city, most of the players congregate in hubs. Like players don't want to be isolated in instances...

So let's say they rework the system. The players who dont wanna be isolated in a instance are still goimg to be in the hubs are still going to stay there the players who still rather be in their housing units, which are gonna be the minority of players.Are still gonna be in their housing units and the players who don't care simply don't care simply don't care.

Reality is housing is so sought after because of its limited nature. If the players won't engage with apartments because they think they're inferior. When you can literally do everything in apartment that you could do in a small. The only thing you can't do is have co tenants. Because when I ask people what limitations do you have in apartment?I give them a freebie an say (can't have a co tenant) then I ask for another thing that you can't do in an apt that you can do in a small and none of you ever give a response to that, I tossed you an example, now give me one?

We reworked the system to end up back in the same place. When other parts of the game desperately could use more resources.

Not true. Here's a list of stuff that makes them worse than the smallest plot, off the top of my head:

- Cannot have co-tenants (as you previously mentioned, but any friends can teleport to your apartment building if you allow it in the settings) and thus you cannot get any help with decorating it unless you use "sorcery"
- Cannot do any gardening besides flower-growing, because you don't have access to gardening plots. You are limited to 2 flower pots, which is the same as cottages at least.
- You can only place 4 aquariums vs. a cottage's 6 (mediums can have 8, larges can have 10)
- You can only place 2 crafting facilities vs. a cottage's 4 (mediums can have 6, larges can have 8)
- You can only place 4 vendors vs. a cottage's 6 (mediums can have 8, larges can have 10)
- You are limited to an item slot limit of 100 vs. a cottage's 200 (mediums get 300, larges get 400)
- Cannot have any outdoor storage even if you don't use it, because you don't own any outdoor spaces (0 slots vs. a cottage's 20 slots of storage + 20 slots of placed items)
- Cannot perform floating glitches that involve having a basement, since it is only one floor. You can only float items upwards unless you use "sorcery"
- Cannot change the look of your door, windows or pillars, as they're currently tied to the district you buy the apartment in

They are objectively inferior. They are meant to be. Otherwise, why would anyone bother being subjected to the autodemolition timer when apartments get these perks?

- Don't have to ever worry about it being demo'd, unless you move to another world (if you are moving to a new world they will literally pay you your apartment's worth, so it's even beneficial to have one on the off-chance you consider moving in the future)
- It is much cheaper than the cheapest cottage, with a set price of 500k for any apartment no matter the district
- Free delivery moogle, mender and merchant are all in the lobby for you to use without having to spend any item slots placing them inside your room. The lobby and immediate outside also get decorated for seasonal events, which requires no work or item slots from you. Some plots happen to be right where all the decor is, while some others get nothing or are limited at being able to gaze at it from afar. Whether you think this is a pro or a con is completely personal opinion, but I'm putting it in the pros list because I think it's cute
- A chocobo stable (if another player decides to clean it, you will also benefit from this without having to do anything), summoning bell, marketboard and mini-aetheryte are conveniently placed at the entrance for you to use without spending any extra item slots. This also means you can teleport there without placing your own mini-aetheryte. If your plot is close to the apartment building, I recommend getting rid of your garden aetheryte and just buying an apartment in your division lol
- They're super easy to obtain, unless you're on one of those extremely populated servers
- They're smaller (duh), which makes the space-to-slots ratio better overall. The bigger your house, the more sparsely decorated it's going to look because the item slot and the space don't grow at the same rate


I think apartments are great if you're not all that into housing but want to reap the basic benefits of it, I use mine mainly for cheaper teleporting to the other side of the world or as a supplement to a plot's storage, but they're not equal. They were never created to be. If any updates come to apartments, expect housing plots to get the best part of it, and much earlier too. We already saw it with the housing interior swapping system, which sadly apartments and FC rooms didn't get any of. I was looking forward to removing the pillars from my FC room the most.

Yes, you cannot have code tenants.

Yes, you cannot have an exterior because technically. You're purchasing an interior, not a plot.

However I am not counting items with item limits to them because they can be placed. You are not unable to place it, it just has a limit on how many you can have of a item type.

But let's use your example of players glitching things through the floor via add ons. That's something exclusive to the pc add on users. Anyone that does not have addons or is console cannot do this. That is something players who don't have them cannot do, regardless of sizes plot they own. I'm looking for examples of things that you simply cannot do in an apartment that could be normally done in a plot. Such as the thematic changes that they added to the plots recently, something that Apts can't do (yet)

I appreciate you at least understanding that the apartments were never supposed to be on par with the house because they want you to want a plot (to put you on the demolition timer) You get a baseline experience with apartment housing. If you want to engage with ward plots,you're going to have to bid.

I do appreciate your reply though. I do feel games exist to give up a degree of friction to get to the shiny things.

Yes, and no. You may not be able to perform them yourself, but if you have a plot, you can allow a user that has the add-on to do it on your plot, and thus you can get access to it. With an apartment, you can't get access to that unless you're the one using the add-on, as you said. That's why I counted it!

What about making some really nice mansions that are really cheap and always available but when you move in, you find that the previous owner left a bunch of their stuff behind. It's as if they left in a big hurry.

I can't see how this is that much different compared to the apartments.
Except the size choice, and ability to house whole FC in them.
Both of those things people have been asking separately, especially the size choice.

That's contingent really on somebody else and the version of the game they purchased. I am Playstation exclusive. As well as xBox players or those not comfortable downloading add-ons, would not have the ability to do so themselves. It's contingent of 2 conditions are you pc? and do you use housing addons

I'll never kneel and grovel before the PC Upper-crust for their help! Us NON- Addon users can make a space up there with the best of them. Their addons make it easier. But something is lost in that. The actual careful consideration, the time spent working on setting it all up, the process of making sure all the pieces are immaculately placed, and then having to become a 1 person construction crew. My last 2 rooms took me 2 weeks to do, and I'm sure you'd say "Solowing that FOREVER!" and I'd be inclined to agree. And by the end the decoration period youll make something youll enjoy and you'll sit in but if it takes you like an hour to decorate it fully it's cool but it's missing the Journey


But I've come to enjoy that mental serenity where you're just spending time setting it all up to get everything. Your thoughts are allowed to roam, your creativity and problem solving skills are sometimes tested. You get out of the system what you put into it. Effort and creativity. It gave me a way to reflect on whatever came to mind without taking me out of my zone. It was tough to build but I was upset it was done because that mental journey has come to it's conclusion. The Journey to the completion is just as meaningful as the completion itself. In how I see, a 2 week mental hike across the mental valleys and it makes the end of the journey you're going to sit in that spot built with some of the feeling that you had during that journey baked into the design itself. Makes spending the time working on it that much more meaningful (for me) when it is finished and I can relax in it. It's more personal and the time put in will reflect in the care.

Also don't want those Housing Uppercrust to get too big for their britches, "look what they need to mimic a fraction of our power" Yall gonna put some respect on our housing spots, built on the pillars of virtual elbow grease and determination lol

Fair enough. But we're talking about the possibilities, and allowing tenants who can decorate your house gives you access to that which you wouldn't have if you were alone in your apartment. That is my point. You can still do tons just by upwards floating and apart from that, everyone else is equal in everything across platforms.

I understand your point of view, but I still find the wording really strange lol I don't think people who use add-ons look down on those who don't, often times I've heard admiration from them since they obviously know the amount of effort, frustration and insane amount of time it takes to do even some simple glitches. Lining things up and avoiding clipping drives me up the wall regularly! Glitching stuff repeatedly for hours makes my hands hurt really badly, so I have to limit my housing decorating time to avoid hurting myself.
Just because some players use add-ons doesn't mean their journey is worth less than yours. You simply don't know how much time it took them, what they were thinking about or how much effort it took them to come up with their design. There are a variety of reasons for which one may choose (or refuse) to use add-ons, and I personally think that whatever brings you joy and doesn't hurt others is perfectly valid (TOS-breaking stuff aside and all that... I don't care what people are doing with their games since I can't see it anyway)

No one is looking down on you for not using add-ons. If anything, when I see an impressive build and find out the creator didn't use any, it makes me even more amazed. You should be able to be proud of your work without putting other people's effort and creativity down.
