The best part is she predicted the replies she'd get in the video and the forums delivered. Classic
step 1: make content to elicit reactions
step 2: get reactions the content was created to elicit
That's why society is literally falling apart at the seams for "eNgAgEmEnT". If I make a video stating something easily disprovable and then add "I bet someone will answer in the comment section showing me how I was wrong", the chances are very high that someone will indeed comment and how how I was wrong. That doesn't mean my initially untrue statement wasn't untrue. It's up to YOU to actually have some quality standards in the way you conduct yourself, and in the media you consume.
Influencers encouraging people to quit the game outside of the forum to pressure SE into action is a fantastic thing to witness. You can cry in here all you want, but when people start to take it out on more public spaces, then things get a lot more serious for the company and it's reputation. This is a good video, if people like the uwu vtuber or not doesn't matter, it serves its purpose.
I can understand people arent happy atm but can we at some point stop doom posting? people are dooming in every expansion and still playing this game, without question the forum people are mostly about talking big without actually real consequences so just let it be at this point, it will not happen that square is changing something and before people now start with "look final is in decline the playerbase is dropping" pls inform your ass, in every expansion since Stormblood the playerbased dropped in between x.0 and x.2 thats how it nearly always was. so just let it be
Sure some people on these forums have been dooming for 6+ years now complaining about anything and everything, and yet are still here. But it is true that the playerbase is shrinking, the writing quality has dropped, and we are back to Shadowbringers sub numbers. What is sad is that XIV pretty regularly grew up through Endwalker, and now it's trending downward. So it's not quite business as usual, there are clear issues that need correction.
Being melodramatic is not my thing and I think some posters here just complain as a bizarre hobby, but I am concerned myself.
Why did it grew through endwalker ? ask you WHY not because of the great content, because the content is like always, the playerbase grew because of covid and the wow refugees, the covid time is gone, a lot of wow refugees are back to wow so the playerbase ofc sinks again, then like i said earlier between expansion release and x.2 there was always such a big drop
Saying the game is going to die or whatever prophetic lunacies we read on every game since the early 2000s, whatever makes people happy believing.
But telling people to "leave if they don't like the game" and acting all surprised that they still play is a fundamental misunderstanding of those players. They still play and yell at the devs because they still care. They'd have left already otherwise. And then it becomes a real exercise in hilarity when goalposts get shifted and you get told instead "then you're not playing the right game for you, just go play something more aligned with your tastes". There is no winning with those.
Expecting a video like this to bring something new to the table is completely jarring. Videos bringing up good points nobody thought about yet are all well and good, but the point of those videos is to get loud and be heard. It's to make a point across, not to write a thesis.
Nah im not saying its only through covid and wow refugees but its the major aspect, i mean ofc is the writing atm actually really bad but do you really thing it will change something to complain here from early to midnight? Sorry but yoshi p and square enix will go with the direction they go and people will still play the game, square could literally sell shit on a spoon and people here would open the mouth and take it with pleasure, thats how the ffxiv community is, i mean if people are happy to doom or complain just go ahead have fun, but let me tell you one thing IT WONT CHANGE ANYTHING it never will and never has
Yes, SE was gifted an incredible opportunity with the influx of players from WOW's temporary selfdestruction, and Covid. But rather than capitalizing on that opportunity, by adapting their development schedule to get more incentive out for those 'temporary' players to become more permanent additions to the playerbase, instead they kept doing what they were doing, and let the golden goose walk straight back out of the pen
This line infuriates me to no end. Because 'something more aligned to my tastes' WAS FFXIV. It's why I started playing it, back in HW. It's not that I'm not playing 'the right game for me', it's that 'the game that was right for me, decided to change to be not-right for me, because they wanted to appeal to another demographic'. So, lets use the logic in reverse: people who would not like HW design decisions, but DO like EW/DT design decisions, should they have been told to 'go play something more aligned with their tastes' going from HW to SB, or SB to SHB? No, because that line, no matter who it's being directed at, is patently absurd a stance to take. The game should appeal to many players, of many skill levels, by offering low skill floors and high skill ceilings in the Jobs, and by offering a variety of content difficulty levels. But over time, we've lost the former of those, and now the skill floor IS the skill ceiling for some Jobs (cough SMN).
So now, all of the 'goal to strive for' is baked into the content itself, which means that the burden of 'is the content fun' rests entirely on the design within that content. And not every fight can knock it out of the park, for example, P6S/P7S are dull as dishwater IMO, and P11S was a bit of a snore outside of the three main mechanics of the fight (Shadowed Messengers, Dark and Light, Letter of the Law). But, unlike older expansions, the Jobs (speaking from the POV of a Healer here) don't have enough meat left on the bone to compensate for the dull fight designs. In older expansions, we had dull fights like O6S, or O10S, but the level of 'the gameplay is bland' complaints was nowhere near what we see today, because even if Chadarnook was a literal training dummy, at least as a Healer we could mess about with trying to practice 'keep all of your DOTs up' and 'aim for zero healing GCDs used' (a goal that was not fully attainable in every Savage fight, even in BIS)
I guess Yoshi P forgot to add: "Act on feedback and complaints, on a faster pace than once every 5 year cycle"
Its a given that you SHOULDNT act on every random complaint or a game will become a mess, but repetitive complaints over years to add more QoL, more open world, more enterable buildings, Viera and Hrotgar hats, friendslist changes, all of it. Getting "Please look forward to it" is starting to really not cut it at all. I want to like this game, but the honestly DRY content and time between any MEANINGFUL content is actually crazy for an MMO where its supposed to offer you things to do.
Eh, I made it through the first five minutes of the video because I found her voice and style annoying.
I can only speak for myself when I say that my playtime in this game has decreased dramatically because I felt like the story ended with Endwalker. And even though I was right here on the day DT launched, and will continue to play it, I don't login nearly as much as I used to. I'm playing other stuff these days.
I will say that YouTubers are always going to have clickbait titles and takes because that's what gets clicks and views. I will also say that the forums of any MMO are the worst. Doesn't matter the game, the forums will always say it's in the worst state it has ever been in.
At the opposite end is Reddit, where the game can do no wrong, no matter what. That's just as bad in my opinion. The truth is somewhere in between.
I don't care as much about gameplay as many of you. I primarily play for the story and THAT'S MY CURRENT PROBLEM WITH THE GAME. I feel like my journey is over and from what I've seen in Dawntrail, the story hasn't really grabbed me yet. It has some interesting concepts, but nothing has made me feel like I need to jump in and figure out what's going on. I'm not all that invested.
One word of warning, though, for those of you who have been saying the game is too easy. Every time a developer has tried to make their game more challenging, at least in my experience, it has failed. Badly. What Lucy Pyre said in her video about SE dumbing down the game for money is 100% correct. If they suddenly make this game way more challenging you'll see what's left of the population here crater spectacularly.
Think about it. FFXIV has largely been marketed for its story, and up through Endwalker, it had great writing, memorable characters and a lot of depth. It's all about understanding your target audience. And for years, that audience has been here primarily for the story. Not raiding or PvP. Those things were there, but it was never the main focus of this game. It was a niche game for many years.
If they suddenly start making MSQ dungeons and trials very challenging, people will simply stop playing them and stop playing the game as well.
The only ones left playing will be those of you on this forum who will sound a lot like that guy from the Dead Ends dungeon who nuked all his enemies and cheered, but there was no one left to hear him.
I agreed with absolutely everything. In fact the only thing it was missing was a mention of how DCs are cannibalising each other and how they are not even acknowledging it, but at this stage who's counting anymore.
Square could adjust everything they want, the WoW Refugees wouldnst stay, if Square wanted them to stay they had to change the ToS or do you with all honesty think a WoW Player which comes from the most toxic mmo out there would accept ffxivs "happy pink unicorn fluffy world everyone loves everybody there is nothing bad in the world" mentality? hell nah, i know already 5 wow refugees which leaves the game again because they cant tell people that they are suck and should start practicing the rotation and start doing dmg etc
But we disagree that that would happen.
They need to gently increase the difficulty in a way that educates people.
Don't make casual content much more difficult. Just a little.
Where normals and trials are in DT right now is 'perfect*. *Just knock 5 item levels of the sync cap to keep it interesting as people Op.*
DT Dungeon bosses are perfect. *Again, knock 5 item levels of the sync cap*. The stuff in-between bosses is awful in it's lack of suprise. Create something interesting and fun SQX. I never want to see a 2 mob 2 wall run again.
ShB Ex1 Dancing plague is THE missing content! 4 experienced people can help 4 people blind prog it *MINE*, in 1 hour. It can be done. That's what's missing.
We need 12 if 'those' per expansion. They need to have three mount rewards among them that you don't have to sweat more that 10-15 clears if each instance for.
The normals need to have 'exactly' the same reward structure as savage. There needs to be a really good mount al fit the 4th of every one. Frankly it should be a recolour of the savage mount. By all means make people clear 1,2,3 per week. By all means keep the drop rate the same.
Jobs need to be more interesting. Challenging to play properly. Doesn't mean it should matter if people don't for their MSQ. What that does to ultimate, casual doesn't give a F as long as there are 8 jobs which can clear ultimate. If you want to Meta it, go ahead.
Ironic thing to bring up, because I'd say that the gradual removal of Job Complexity mirrors the final part of the Dead Ends dungeon.
'Farther still existed a star without strife...
...where none remembered life's trials—or its joys.
What its people had gained from ease, they lost to apathy.
So they created the kindest, most gentle of beasts.
Its steps were light, and its gift was as painless as it was beautiful.
Bathed in its golden glow, they all slept happily ever after...'
Now that we have the majority of our damage output tied to pressing a single button as a Healer (that is over 60% of our CPM), now that we have the WAR doing our job for us in EX roulettes via Bloodwhetting, now that we have so many OGCDs we literally don't need to press half of them to clear the dungeon - Now, we have the gameplay SE wanted: A gameplay without sources of player friction, a 'gameplay without strife'.
No and No and even more No
Dancing Plaque was one of the easiest Ex Trials ever, seriously we dont need more of them clearly not and the current ex trials are really easy and i think for a "EX Trial" the Difficulty is more then perfect
Mount in Normal Raids? Rather not, if you want the Mount just do savage, if you cant do it, your own fault
Classes should be challenging yes but thats something which will never happen, lets be real for a second you could play your whole Rotation with 1 Button and i guarantee there are some people which still would be to sorry to say it so hard dumb to press the one button, before you can make the classes more challenging you need to get rid of these people
At the end of the day, if wow could bounce back from shadowlands, nothing's stopping ffxiv from doing the same. That is, if they ever decide to look at feedback other than that of Japan...
Honestly I'm happy for you! Genuinely it looks like you got to a point where you're no longer having fun and are just grasping at chaotic raids, which I've heard is one of the last things that is fun in this game.
Unsubbing is the right choice. There are so many games out there that are just amazing. Try Split Fiction out with your boyfriend! It's actually really, really fun and I had a blast, even though it's EA lol.
You were fun to rile up for a while but this is just getting sad. I honestly did not imagine questioning why someone who didn't clear UCOB would jump into a conversation about UCOB would provoke such a long-lasting fixation. Actual rent-free lmao. I honestly think I hit a nerve there.
Keep it up bud, you're not the first reply guy I had, and you won't be the last.
In practice it’s hard to know why and how the player count are as they are unless we know everything, and it feels like using them in the arguments isn’t that helpful.
Like as mentioned in this thread, there’s probably decline because of covid lockdown being over and wow players playing wow again. So people who stopped for reasons other than thinking ffxiv is really bad right now. But I’m pretty sure we also all know people who would be unsubbed a lot more if they didn’t have a house, or people who stay subbed to just do dailies to level up jobs even though they’d prefer more content right now. So these people are contributing to the player count for a reason other than this ffxiv is really good right now.
And then we get discussions where the doomers will use the player count to support their arguments and say “here’s why ffxiv is dying,” and then the people who disagree will say there’s other reasons for the lower count, and none of that really says anything about whether jobs are designed well. We all just make our own assumptions about what the most important reasons for the player counts are (just like how I’m making the assumption it’s too hard to tell).
Gonna be funny being “wrong” again if wow has another bad expansion and it makes ffxiv numbers go up lmao
According to limited data we can gather on the listening posts and some unofficial polls done on twitter and some of the official WOW forums the biggest source of people leaving 14 to go back to WOW was dragonflight was good. The second biggest was that EW’s patch cycle was boring and empty
TOS disagreements didn’t even rank
It’s stupid to think you shouldn’t try to hold your competitors players by adapting to them. As much as some people on the forum hate it the sheer amount that fled to us was worth whatever square could possibly do. Instead they did nothing and not only sent the WOW refugees back but also pissed off the core playerbase. 14 has increased by about 100,000-200,000 players per expansion since ARR. the fact that two expansions later we are barely clinging to ShB and are about to fall back to SB numbers is blatant shrinkage. This isn’t a return to long term trends, we are losing players
I'm legitimately happy to see Lucy actually call for unsubbing, but I'm also convinced that xiv could lose 99% of it's playerbase, and the devs would STILL cling to the exact same content release schedule and game design philosophy because they'd be afraid of upsetting the 1% of players they had left instead of trying to understand why the 99% left and trying to win them back
If only I had a nickel for every "FFXIV is slowly declining" conversation.....
People are much more easily swayed from a positive mindset to a negative one than vice versa. In this context, a player who enjoys the game might start second-guessing themselves after constantly hearing about its supposed flaws—flaws they never actually had an issue with. Over time, this can create dissatisfaction that wasn’t there before, making them feel wrong for simply enjoying the game as it is.
Constant exposure to nonstop criticism can be exhausting, especially for someone who doesn’t see any real problems. When you're just trying to have fun, being surrounded by negativity can feel suffocating, like you’re being told your enjoyment is invalid. Even if you disagree with the criticism, its sheer volume can wear you down, making it harder to play the game for what it is.
The solution for those who feel this way is to avoid spaces where criticism is rampant and, most importantly, not engage with people venting their frustrations, such as saying, "I'm so over it."
Hey?... Is that Yoshi-P come to spend more time in the forums now you've got more time on your hands? Ahh! I got you! You bin sussed Yoshi!
First of all, if you do content higher than extreme, ie savage, then you just don't get a say in anything below it. Extreme isn't even necessary to unlock savage.
Also you misunderstand.
- I want 12 of the current extreme difficulty. (not 7)
- And I want a further 12 instances per expansion of Dancing plague level difficulty.
- I expect at least 3 mounts per difficulty tier. MUST NOT BE RECLOURS OF EACH OTHER. I expect that without having to clear the same instance more than once every week, and on that basis to be guaranteed a mount within that patch period.
- Square Enix, as far as I'm concerned if you expect to put 'my' money in your pocket, I will then be 'ENTITLED' to the above. (what the rest of you do with your money is up to you)
That really is Yoshi isn't it? Well your plan is working. You're getting rid of plenty of people!
I don't think I explained very well. For absolute normal content, then if the jobs get harder and dungeon boss difficulty stay where it is, they will still clear by not even bothering with 1,2,3. Casuals aren't the problem with job design. Its hardcore, who refuse to use a job if it makes harcore anything less than as easy as it possibly can be. Casuals don't even know they are playing badly. And will play the job anyway to level it, and go back to their favourite 1 DPS, or their favourite healer for those insta queues. 'facts'.
Well carry on though Yoshi (I mean "AvoSturmfaust!" ;-> ) everything is fine! Change nothing! You're certainly getting rid of those players.
Hey seriously Avo.I know your bating me. I also know you genuinely don't care. And if XIV dies, you'll move onto some other sweat challenge. It makes no difference to you. What's more you will get to enjoy being toxic in game too, which is what really completes the experience for you.
You misinterpreted my post. These types of threads have been happening for as long as I have been playing, which I started in early Heavensward. People have always been saying "the game is dying", when in reality, it hasn't. Just a funny observation from someone who's been playing for a long time :D
