So true. And when a paid service disappoints, what is the most logical thing for a player to do? Stop paying.

I say this because your ALL-CAPS line leads to that conclusion. If not, it becomes obvious that "won't accept anything below" is wishful thinking. People will apparently accept a lot before abandoning an MMORPG.

And if it stops bringing the money, they won't change anything but just say that the game has outlived its profitability and start shutting things down. Most higher up SE suits don't care for FF14 as a product, only as source of revenue to fund other projects, so when the well dries up they won't rush to rejuvinate it.

This is the business model for almost every MMORPG of the last quarter century. LOTRO is still available after almost 18 years. RIFT is still available after 14 years. Star Trek Online is still available after 15 years. FFXI is still available after 23 years.

Loss of some revenue is not the determining factor for longevity. The four MMORPGs mentioned above are still providing income for their companies, althouth many have changed parent companies over the years.

The new boss of Square Enix has a significant other that plays FF14 all the time. If they mess with FF14, the boss won't hear the end of it when they come home from work. As silly as that may sound, it's kinda a big factor if we ignore all the other factors.

Like how they didn't rejuvenate it in 1.0? (they did) One of the important reasons to rejuvenate it was to restore trust in the Final Fantasy franchise, and they will do anything they have to in order to maintain that because it is one of the main franchises they have going for them.

Hope the game goes F2P with full of cash shop cosmetics because 15 usd monthly + retainers and they dare to give us RESKINS from other expansions as rewards for Dungeons

I'm pretty much convinced the game will only change and start adding things when the japanese fans become loud about it. Otherwise they will postpone / not care.

Theme park about sums it up. And like a theme park I'll pay once a year to hop in, look around, see what has changed, and leave in disappointment. They'll fix it or they won't, but at this point I have little faith in the former as they continue to hold the position that nothing is wrong with the current choices or directions. FF14 will be owned by another company by the time anyone with the traction to make any choices realizes how flawed things have gotten.

This thread reeks of pseudo experts in a big circlejerk way lol, me included. A lot of eye-rolling comments. Give it up here, and spam the japanese forums please, this game caters to them. That's where something might get read. At worst it'll annoy them and that's good, maybe they'll realize they have international players. The ship has sailed here.

As much as this statement may make sense, it does not find it in the facts. Yes the game is 10 years old but 10 years ago today there was WoW Warlords of Dreanor and so many other MMO experiences (in 2010 there was Cataclysm) and if we have to talk about QoL that existed 20 years ago but still don't exist now in FF14 (friend list privacy, infinite chat tabs, Chat Bubble, decent Crafting) I'd say they didn't need a mobile game to apply quality of life solutions that have existed in other games for 21 years.

It could have been done before ARR was released.

You're not taking into account the conditions under which ARR was developed. The fact that they made 2.0 at all in that timeframe while also maintaining and supporting 1.0 to the extent that they managed is a great achievement. I know people like to drag the game these days but let's not be revisionist here

No one intends to change the course of history, ARR came out on 27 August 2013, it is 6 February 2025 and the things I mentioned are not yet there. They have had 12 years since ARR came out I think the crunch from 1.0 to 2.0 is long over.

There is a tendency in this community, as I saw, to justify things that in other games would immediately be taken very badly in general. Perhaps it is time to change the mental structure of how one supports a game in light of the recent gaming industry, times change -quote.

Speaking of chat bubbles, didn't they show screenshots of this last year? What even happened to those?
Meanwhile modders adding them to the game under a week, and viera and hrotgar hats as well...

Their content delivery pipeline is very rigid and CS3 do not really do feature updates outside of major patches (if I remember right, feel free to correct me). The feature was shown 5 months ago during PAX, and the only major release we had until then was 7.1, when the feature supposedly wasn't finished yet. So unless the feature gets scrapped, most likely in one of the future big patches.

It's even worse than what you've said because not only did he personally not do anything innovative, when his battle designers tried to do something new in ARR and HW instead of encouraging them he slowly put a stop to it.
