Please allow us to unlock animations from either gender on any character

I keep mentioning ESO as well when I see people talking about more animations options.
However I don't think FFXIV would be able to do it like ESO can.
In ESO all races share the same body "skeleton".
The races aren't as diverse visually as they are in FFXIV.
In that regard ESO have a much easier way to implement new animations as they basically only have to model it after 1 skeleton rigging and it fits all.

I can't imagine it would be that difficult, they're more or less all still human aside from some having a tail. At worst I guess they might run into issues getting the extremes (male Roegadyn/Hrothgar, Lalafell) to work with everyone else's animations and vice versa

Every race & gender combination likely has its own rig. It would be a lot of work to make all rigs be able to do all emotes, you'd effectively have to redo all the work on those race & gender specific animations.

I think having animations that are feminine or masculine is fine and doesn't need to be interchanged.

But having multiple animations for each type of character to choose from would be great. For instance my female Miqo'te character has a run animation I like, it just looks like someone running who knows how to run. A female Hyur is locked to a run animation I don't really like and looks like she isn't running with full effort.

The races all use one of 3 rigs: midlander, male roe, or lalafell. The midlander is scaled to whatever size they need for elezen, miqote, viera, and fem roe, and the male roe is scaled for male hrothgar. Yes, re-rigging 3x over is a pain, but it's not 16x (one for each race/gender combo) like you think.

I wasn't aware of that, that's really interesting. If true, you're right - it's a lot less work than I would expect. Was it brought up in a live panel or something? I'd be interested to see how male roe's rig corresponds to hroth given their different posture and dimensions etc
